quick trip

Pros: location
Cons: Nothing
We just needed to stay for literally 12 hours and this place was darling! Old but quaint. It was right downtown and perfect for visitors. I would stay there again. The bed was super comfortable!

The only place in town but fortunately pretty good

Posted Aug 19, 2014
The exterior and lobby don't bode well but fortunately the rooms are nice, bright and comfortable. No restaurant but Seatle Coffee Roasters is in the lobby and Tallys Silver Spoon is right across the street for breakfast and dinner.

Historic Hotel

Posted Jul 28, 2014
Pros: Location in Rapid City, and the historical significance. We like to stay in older hotels which have particular meaning to a town.
Cons: Elevator repair and let those using the parking garage to go around the barrier to access the top floor.
Location: We came through Sturgis and the next day went on to Mt. Rushmore. Both are easy drives from the hotel.
Lovely old hotel in Rapid City. We very much enjoyed the location and the history of the hotel and surrounding town. Traffic was minimal coming into town and check-in was easy. There were two problems: Both elevators broke down the morning we were leaving, forcing us to walk up / down 8 floors to retreive our baggage. Also, self-parking was free in a parking garage 1/2 block away, but be sure to drive around the barricade to the upper level. We didn't know to do this and found a parking ticket on the windshield the next day . Fortunately, the hotel staff resolved this for us.

Pros: It was an old historic hotel in an interesting area of Rapid City, South Dakota.
Cons: Customer service!
The hotel was a quaint old hotel in downtown Rapid City, South Dakota. In an old hotel you expect things to go wrong but we were assigned to a room that leaked from the ceiling onto our bed the entire time. Maintenance was called to assist and some chambers were drained of excess fluid but the situation didn't improve. We were told that we couldn't get another room because the hotel was completely full and we couldn't be reimbursed because we booked through Expedia. No one, other than the maintenance man who couldn't help us, seemed to care about our situation (or the fact that their bed was getting completely ruined). It was just a general lack of customer care or service.

Center of Town

Posted Jul 18, 2014
Pros: Centrally located for people who want to walk around town. Convenient parking structure. Staff couldn't be better. Discounts at the shop and spa
Cons: Get rid of the monstrously proportioned furniture in the rooms. Think Louis XVI rather than Bloated Biedermeier!
Location: Location was perfect, which is why I chose the hotel. Many shops, restaurants and museums nearby. Especially the Journey Museum and Prairie Edge.
Historic Hotel -If you have sensitive ears, don't stay here. terribly noisy pub and rooftop bar. Interior noise (from air conditioning coming from the outside and elevators) can be deafening for light sleepers (my ears are still recovering from earplugs). The rooms are over-burdened with HUGE furniture pieces that take up most of the interior spaces (Note to hotel - small is better and more aesthetically pleasing.) Too bad that not all rooms have the vaunted refrigerator amenities. I would wish that hotel management would get rid of the colossal chest of drawers and desks with sharp edges that provoke bruises on thighs and consider more space appropriate furnishings - and if then, the place would be almost ideal Staff is extremely helpful- no need to change anything there!

Nicely Renovated Historic Hotel

Posted Jul 13, 2014
Pros: The view and the beautiful lobby.
Cons: Bigger living area and wider entrance.
Location: Plenty of bars and restaurants and shopping in downtown Rapid City nearby and inside the hotel.
The hotel is very old and historic, but has obviously had some recent renovations to bring it up to date. Our room seemed new, but you could tell it was obviously quirky the way they had to move around the old design of the place. There was an extremely cramped long hallway just inside the door, and then a fairly small living area. Yet, for some reason there was a closet big enough to fit an entire bed right next to the entrance door. The bathroom was tiny, but the shower was gorgeous.

Nice older hotel

Posted Jun 29, 2014
Location: Delmonico's restaurant was OUTSTANDING!
Nice older hotel...great location...Chubby Chipmunk truffles in lobby Yummy! The air conditioner in the room did not cool the room. We called maintenance and they promptly came and changed the filter but this did not correct the problem. Did not sleep well because the of the temperature of the room. Otherwise, would stay there again.

Downtown location a plus

Posted Jun 25, 2014
Cons: Bathroom by the bar could be cleaner.
We enjoyed the downtown location. It's in walking distance of restaurants.
