L’Argonne
We arrived expecting to learn more about the Great War but left having experienced so much more. Great area of beauty and historical interest. Our host was very helpful and provided us with a taste of the regional cuisine and hospitality that was above all expectations. The gite was full of character and the location very quiet and friendly. A great time was had.

Delightful property, convenient for Verdun
A really great find. Lovely traditional gite in a delightful quiet rural village. Friendly and helpful host always available (even brought us a lovely tray of desserts), small boulangerie in the village within 3 minute walk. Excellent location to explore World War One history, only about a 20 minute drive to Verdun and it’s numerous sites of interest.

Charming
"Chez Mathilde" is a charming old quaint building in the centre of Rarecourt. It has been excellently renovated whilst retaining a lot of its original features and character. It is very comfortably furnished and well presented with everything you need for your stay. It is well situated to visit the beautiful Argonne region and beyond.

Superb!
My daughter and I had a wonderful stay. The house is full of character and is very comfortable and has everthing you need. Amory is a wonderful host and had plenty of knowledge of the local area. The Quiche Lorraine she made for us was fantastic!! Rarecourt is a lovely village. We really enjoyed our stay here and there is lots to see and do. So much so we have already booked to return next year!

Great rustic get away
Our host was excellent. We turned up quite late with no food and they arranged a booking at a nearby restaurant after trying several others that were already closed. To top thst off they provided milk and tea after we arrived that was enough to get us going the next morning. Location was good and central to WW1 and WW2 sites and an easy day trip to Luxembourg. Absolutely loved the very olde world building and decor. Plenty of room with well equipped kitchen. David

Best memories for our grandson!
Ease of communication with hostess, clean , friendly neighborhood. Easy access to highway, many interesting sights to see nearby. Our younger grandson would like to visit here when he graduates from middle school.

This home was just as it was advertised, clean , small friendly village, many historical attractions close by and friendly hostess. We spent one month in Rarécourt and we were able to take many day trips close by. Everything you need is in the home and if it’s not there they will do their best to get it for you. A seventeenth century village with modern conveniences. We are returning in August and are looking forward to another lovely stay

Cutest Gite Imaginable!!
Absolutely charming Gite, lovely host. Very well located to tour all Verdun/Meuse-Argonne battlefield sites/memorials. Very beautiful countryside, especially now with leaves changing. Only drawback is the general depopulation problem of the Meuse region-you have to drive 5-10k to find a restaurant or grocery store. If you self cater it is perfect.

Wonderful Authentic Home
We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Annie's home in Rarécourt! It is exactly as pictured, quaint, cozy and an authentic slice of the French countryside. Although a bit bit rustic in character, it has every convenience that a couple or family would need. The town is convenient to the the A4, and less than 30 minutes from Verdun and may of the WWI memorial sites. It less than 1 hour from Reims and Metz, which make for great day trips. We were welcomed with home grown apples and paté... both delicious! We would definitely recommend and stay here again. Thanks Annie!

Typical French eclectic, great find
Great place and lovely host and daughter speaks English which helped us out, phew. We loved it. Little village tucked out of the way with its own boulangerie, and local sells eggs. Had a great atmosphere too. Close to a few large towns (30-45 mins drive) one being Verdun. Countless war sites, if that's your thing, many free and some hidden away in the forests. Amazing sights and very interesting. Vauquios Hill is a must visit, a town and a hillside blown away never to be rebuilt. Much is dominated with the American/French of WW1 and the town Châtel Chehery commemorate Sgt York every year. Close to Champagne and if you want to travel Metz, Nancy, Luxembourg and Belgium. The accommodation was good, had everything you needed. Courtyard out back for BBQ. The upstairs would be out of bounds for those a little unsure on balance as the stairs are steep and narrow but otherwise a great find. I thInk we will be returning. Still so much to explore

We stayed at Chez Mathilde for a week in June. The cottage is divine. Loads of room, with lovely period features of the 17th century property. Annie lives next door and was so very welcoming to us even though we speak no French. Annie's daughter however lives in the property the other side of cottage and she speaks fluent English and was so helpful to us with advising places to visit. The cottage is well equipped with everything you will need and also has a nice courtyard garden which was lovely to spend time to eat meals and relax. The area of Rarecourt is very peaceful with the only real sound being the chiming clock of the nearby church. Verdun itself is a lovely place with many cafes and restaurants beside the river. It is also only a short drive to many WW1 sites. My advice would be to not spend all your time on the heavily advertised main attractions. There is so much more in the area that will not have the obligatory coach parties turning up to. I would recommend the butte de vauquois, le main de massiges (both of which are free to enter) and the privately owned 14-18 museum at Romagne-sous-montfaucon. This cottage is a perfect find in a lovely area. Many thanks for a wonderful stay.

What an amazing place.

Chez Mathilde is an absolute treasure!
If you are looking for a totally charming and authentic experience, this is the place! The building is from the 17th century with updates to meet today's needs. We (two adult couples) stayed three nights and were quite comfy. One bedroom is up a steep flight of stairs, so caution is needed. Madame Amory was beyond hospitable and her husband and daughter made sure our stay was worry-free!

Magical from the moment you walk in
We've had one of the most relaxing times we could have wished for. Marie and her family could not have been more welcoming from the moment we arrived. The house is beautifully furnished, surpassing many beautique hotels, with a real sense of history and tradition. We felt like we were somewhere different. Excellent value for money. The surrounding area is also very pretty. A very gentle countryside, combining forest, open pastures, picturesque valleys and hills, but also wide open landscapes, all dotted with stunning French villages and towns. This is true, rural France. People seem to live simple lives, but all with a smile and a wave to offer the seemingly very few visitors.

Ein wunderschöner Urlaub
Wir haben die Zeit bei "Chez Mathilde" unglaublich genossen. Das Haus ist was sehr besonderes, gemütlich und hat alles was man braucht. Doch all das wäre nicht das Gleiche, wenn nicht Annie, die Gastgeberin, wäre. Sie ist einfach herzlich und unterstützt einen wo sie kann. Ganz großes Dankeschön.

Ein zauberhaftes Haus und himmlische Ruhe zum Jahreswechsel
Wir haben hier eine rundum schöne Zeit verbracht, es war einfach alles perfekt: Der herzliche Empfang durch unsere Gastgeberin, die gemütliche, liebevolle Einrichtung des alten Hauses, die Ausstattung, die es uns an nichts fehlen ließ und die himmlische nächtliche Ruhe, die für erholsamen Schlaf sorgte. Wir waren ganz verzaubert von dem Haus mit seinen vielen Balken, der kuscheligen Schlafnische und den vielen kleinen Details, die den Charme des alten Gemäuers noch unterstrichen. Und nicht zu vergessen der Kamin, der abends so wohlige Wärme verbreitet hat. Das Dorf ist klein und hübsch und wunderbar ruhig, von hier aus kann man zu Fuß viele Spaziergänge und Wanderungen unternehmen und ohne weit fahren zu müssen die geschichtsträchtige Gegend erkunden. Oder Landschaft und Natur genießen. Morgens kann man schnell um die Ecke in die Mini-Bäckerei gehen, um sich Baguette und Croissants zu besorgen. Auch ein kleiner Supermarkt ist nur ein paar Kilometer entfernt. Es ist ein Ort zum Wohlfühlen, den wir gerne weiterempfehlen! Vielen Dank liebe Annie, für die wunderschöne Zeit in Ihrem Haus und für all die leckeren Dinge, die wir bei Ihnen kosten durften.

Geweldige plek
Wat een geweldige leuke plek om te verblijven, het leek een beetje op een museum want er was veel te zien, Het huisje was heel compleet, echt alles was aanwezig! Goede bedden en een leuk klein terrasje! Ook was er veel informatie over het dorp en de omgeving. De gastvrouw is een hele vriendelijke vrouw die alles voor je wil doen. Ze kwam mij 2 keer een heerlijk dessert brengen, en op mijn laatste dag een geweldig lekkere Quiche Lorraine!! Ik ga zeker nog een keer terug, ik ben in de omgeving nog lang niet uitgekeken!

Un petit coin de tranquillité
Un immense merci à Annie pour son accueil, sa disponibilité, ses bons petits plats et son sourire. Nous avons passé un excellent séjour. Le gîte est situé de telle sorte que Reims, Épernay, Verdun, Châlons, Troyes, Metz....ne sont pas très loin. Et il y a de quoi faire en randonnée et vélo dans la forêt d'Argonne. Je recommande vivement.

Wunderschöner Urlaub
Wir hatten einen wundervollen Urlaub in dem historischen Ferienhaus, welches sehr liebevoll eingerichtet wurde. Es war alles vorhanden, was man braucht. Uns hat es an nichts gefehlt. Die Vermieterin Annie war sehr freundlich, ein richtiger Sonnenschein. Sie hat uns mit tollen Desserts und leckerer Quiche bewirtet und hatte stets ein nettes Wort für uns. Das Dorf und die gesamte Umgebung sind sehr ruhig, was für unsere Erholung super ist. Um größere Städte zu erreichen musste man etwas fahren. Nancy, Metz, Reims und Verdun haben viel Sehenswertes zu bieten. Der Meuse TGV Bahnhof, der ca eine halbe Stunde entfernt liegt, bietet die Möglichkeit in einer Stunde in Paris oder Straßburg zu sein. Der kleine Bäckerladen im Dorf hatte leckere Baguettes und sonntags Brioche. So war unser Frühstück gesichert. Wir würden jederzeit wieder dort Urlaub machen. Es war sehr schön.

Viel Stil in "France rural"
Mme. Annie hat das schönste "Reihenhaus" in Frankreich. Und das Märchen ist tatsächlich so, wie es die Fotos zeigen! Liebevoll ausgestattet. Unglaubliche Sammlung an Inventar und noch mehr Details. Idealer Rückzugsort und "Etappe" im französischen "Grand Est", durchaus nicht nur für Militärhistoriker rund um Verdun. Auch wenn die Wege weit sind. Die kleinen Straßen durch Frankreichs "Mittleren Westen" sind ein Genuss. Originell, aber sehr praktisch eingerichtet, Bäcker am Ort!! im kleinen Dorf Rarecourt, wundervolle winzige Terrasse - und immer wieder Neues zu entdecken. Im Haus und drumherum. Wir danken Mme. Annie für ihre ganz persönliche Quiche Loraine, das Johannisbeerdessert und ihre unvergleichliche und doch diskerete Freundlichkeit! Und dafür, dass sie uns aufgenommen hat. Es war unsein Vergnügen und unvergleichlich fabelhaft. Und so ist das auch gemeint.

We hebben het heerlijk gehad. Wat een lieve gastvrouw, die ons verwende met zelfgemaakte jams en een heerlijk dessert. Het huis ademt zoveel sfeer en geschiedenis, fantastisch! We hebben genoten van de rust en de stilte in het dorp en uitstapjes in de prachtige omgeving van Rarécourt gemaakt. We komen in september zeker terug.

Wir hatten das Vergnügen, als Familie einige wundervolle Tage in der Ferienwohnung Chez Mathilde in Rarécourt zu verbringen. Unser Aufenthalt war fantastisch und wir fühlten uns wie zu Hause. Mathilde war eine herzliche und aufmerksame Gastgeberin, die uns mit wertvollen Tipps versorgte. Die geschmackvoll eingerichtete Wohnung bot allen Komfort, den wir uns als Familie wünschten. Die Betten waren bequem und die Umgebung idyllisch. Die Lage war ideal für entspannte Familienausflüge mit zahlreichen Wander- und Radwegen in der Nähe. Die Sauberkeit und Ausstattung der Wohnung waren beeindruckend. Wir empfehlen die Ferienwohnung Chez Mathilde wärmstens.

Wir möchten wiederkommen
Wir wurden freundlich aufgenommen, Madame Amory beschenkte uns mit einer leckeren Quiche. Die Wohnung ist liebevoll eingerichtet und sehr gemütlich. Das Dorf ist wunderschön, inklusive einem Bäcker für das Frühstücks-Baguette. Die Gedenkstätten von Verdun, der Grund unseres Aufenthalts, sind sehr gut erreichbar. Alles perfekt. Danke!

Liebevoll hergerichtetes Häuschen mit viel Komfort
Das historische Gebäude, mitten im idylischen Dorf gelegen, ist innen mit jeder Menge Komfort versehen. Die vielen elektrischen Geräte insb. der Küche sind jedoch geschickt kaschiert, um das Gesamtbild nicht zu stören. Die Betten emfanden wir sehr bequem. Es gibt ein großes Angebot an DVDs (Blockbuster, aber auch Dokus zum Thema WW I und II), Büchern, Spielen, Broschüren zu Ausflugszielen und Landkarten. Madame Amory ist eine sehr aufmerksame und engagierte Gastgeberin, die uns auch noch mit einer frischen Quiche und einer süßen Leckerei verwöhnte. Wir haben uns dort sehr wohl gefühlt und können Haus und Gastgeberin nur wärmstesns weiterempfehlen : ). 1 Anmerkung aber zum Schluß: Es befinden sich ein Doppelbett in einem Alkoven, sowie ein Einzelzimmer im EG. Das Doppelzimmer mit eigener Dusche und eigenem WC im OG, ist nur über eine sehr steile Holztreppe mit schmalen Stufen zu erreichen, was eventuell nicht für jeden geeignet ist. Unten befindet sich aber eine Tür, so daß z.B. kleine Kinder nicht unbeaufsichtigt hinaufklettern können.

Pure Erholung
Unterkunft und Umgebung laden zur Erholung und Entspannung ein. Zu sehen gibt es viel, ob z. B. in Verdun oder in Bar Le Duc. Mit Annie, unserer Gastgeberin, hatten wir großes Glück. Ihre Freundlichkeit und Hilfsbereitschaft ist unübertrefflich. Vielen Dank, für die schöne Zeit.

Wir hatten 2 sehr schöne Wochen in diesem wunderschönem gemütlich eingerichteten Haus verbracht. Wir waren schon einmal im Sommer hier und dieses Mal im Winter und es war auch sehr schön. ein gemütliches Ferienhaus
Vielen Dank für das sehr gemütlich eingerichtete Ferienhaus. Ich habe eine Woche dort verbracht und sie genossen. Madame Annie war sehr, sehr freundlich und fürsorglich. Gerne komme ich noch mal wieder.

Großartige Gastgeberin - zauberhaftes Haus
Annie ist eine hervorragende Gastgeberin, die ihre Gäste wirklich verwöhnt und dazu immer ein strahlendes, freundlichen Lächeln . Das Haus ist ganz besonders: historisch, liebevoll dekoriert , kleiner Garten - einfach zauberhaft. Wir können es uneingeschränkt empfehlen. Für Menschen, die sich für Geschichte, unverdorbene schöne Landschaften und interessante Städte interessieren, ist Rarecourt ein großartiger Ausgangspunkt.

Un merveilleux séjour.
Nous avons beaucoup aimé notre séjour. Très belle maison typique. La propriétaire, très gentille Annie, nous a bien accueillis, nous a bien expliqué les particularités de la région et nous a même cuisiné une délicieuse quiche lorraine, ainsi que des confitures de cassis et des rillettes au sanglier. Bien situé pour visiter les centres d'intérêt de la Lorraine et de la Champagne. Formidable.

Wunderschönes Quartier in ruhiger Lage
Wir haben zwei Wochen Urlaub gemacht in Rarecourt und haben den Aufenthalt dort in dem wunderschönen alten Haus sehr genossen. Insbesondere unsere Vermieterin Annie hat viel dazu beigetragen mit ihrer sehr herzlichen Art. So gab es an einem Abend für uns eine von ihr frisch zubereitete Quiche Lorraine. Auch die Ausstattung im Haus ist sehr gut (z.B. Küche). Wir wollen gerne wiederkommen. Annett und Gerald

Notre location, très jolie maison à colombages, très agréable est meublée avec goût et passion. Annie est une hôte adorable, sympathique, d'une grande gentillesse avec qui nous avons échangé cordialement. Annie nous a fait goûter une excellente quiche Lorraine, des délicieuses verrines de panacotta et des savoureuses confitures faites maison. Les habitants du village sont eux aussi charmants... La situation de cette location permet de se déplacer aisément afin de nous immerger dans une page de notre grande histoire. Un grand merci à Annie.
