Nice location - not good hotelPosted Feb 15, 2013 on Hotels.com
The hotel is 3 blocks from Copacabana Beach on the far end from the Fort. Very decent location and surrounding area. The hotel itself wasn't any better than a motel in terms of amenities and room quality. The bathroom is terribly cramped and the service is awful. I had to buy my own soap at a local convenience store. If you just need a place to crash and the Merlin is in your budget, it is fine but do not expect a high-end hotel.

New Years Eve on Copacabana BeachPosted Jan 8, 2013 on Hotels.com
This hotel was an amazing value for my trip to Copacabana Beach for the big New Years Eve celebrations 2013. The staff was very professional. The room was beyond expectation. Very large room with a very large comfortable bed. Rooms were quiet even thought you are on a busy street. The hotel is just a short 2 block walk to Copacabana beach. The free breakfast buffet was exceptional with anything you could imagine wanting for breakfast or brunch. The only reason this place is not 5 star is because it is a slightly older property even though it is clean and in good repair. A complete remodel would make it a 5 star.

Family Friendly hotelPosted Sep 16, 2012
Pros: They had rooms for 4 adults -- there are very few rooms like this in Rio ... Rio needs to be more family friendly!
A very pleasant stay ... nice hotel! Very clean - nice buffet breakfast

room for improvementPosted Jul 31, 2012 on Hotels.com
We got a room facing the main road - it wasn't great as the rooms are not soundproof and so it was as if I was sleeping right beside the highway. Most hotel staff do not have a good command of English and so it was not easy to communicate. We were also lied to by the hotel staff - we made it clear we wanted a public yellow taxi, but ended up getting a private taxi, which made us pay a fixed price of 80 reals rather than a metered price of around 60 reals from the hotel to the airport. The only saving grace was the closeness of the hotel to the beach and the metro station, as well as the good spread of buffet breakfast.

It will be goodPosted Mar 26, 2012
The main disappointment for me was that the hotel is undergoing renovations and I could not open the curtains. Once this is complete I am sure it will be great. The service was up to expectations and the hotel clean.
