Casa Tropical is a great hotel bed and breakfast. We stayed here for two nights at the end of our trip. The location is beautiful with the fresh air of Heredia. It was close to drive into San Jose and even closer to the airport for our departure. The staff is friendly and professional, property is beautiful, clean and safe, and the breakfast was delicious! Could not recommend more.

The manager Andrea was very nice and helpful. The room was clean and cute. Noisy birds and a rooster woke us up several times. Parking is tight. Only two real spots to park smaller vehicles. Breakfast was terrible. Cold, rubbery pancakes and a slice of watermelon. Also coffee and orange juice. Lady at breakfast wasn’t very friendly either. About 15 minutes away from airport and was fine for one night.

I like the fact that it is situated in a beautiful quiet residential area. You can walk around in the neighborhood and there are several small restaurants and shops nearby (bakery, supermarket, ...). Staff is super, super friendly and helpful!. At the same time it is nicely furnished and nottoofar from the airport and downtown San Jose. No problem to reach everything by taxi, Uber, minibus.

The host was super nice, the place was clean and neat, super cute, it was quiet and very close to a supermarket. The linens and bed were an absolute delight to rest and the rooms are spacious. I very much enjoyed my stay here and would recommend no doubt. Actually booking again twin nights as I have to come to the area again

You have a view of 3 different volcanoes and a beautiful view stop to view the scenery and the amazingly fasts approach of the airplanes as they go toward the airport. It’s beautiful to watch. The service and staff are welcoming and the friendliness that Ticos are known around the world for. Will definitely visit again. ¡Pura vida!

Nice stay at Vista
We stayed for two nights. Lovely courtyard and upper balcony view in nice neighborhood. Our hosts were terrific! Breakfast was very good. The room was pretty basic and needed more furniture- nothing to put luggage on, only one nightstand, bed not very comfy.

Great location near the airport but tucked away so it is quiet. My airport pickup and dropoff were at very inconvenient times but the hotel sent someone who was wonderful and on time.

Fantastic Stopover
This hotel is nothing short of fantastic. The staff have been wonderful to communicate with and the quality is outstanding. When booking a private hotel instead of a chain I always worry a little as you don't know what you're going to truly get but this one knocked it out of the park. The rooms are clean and have everything you need including a nice comfortable bed (not to hard - not too soft). The breakfast provided is several tasty Costa Rican dishes. There are several sitting areas around the hotel to be out and enjoying the sun or shade should you prefer. It's in a safe neighborhood to walk to some of the local restaurants - which I also found didn't disappoint. I absolutely would stay here again! I'm glad this property came up in the search and was so much more affordable than a large north american franchise name.

Nice hotel
The hotel is very comfortable and clean. The hotel staff was excellent. They delivered a full breakfast to my room without asking. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is traveling in the area of Heredia.

Very nice
Arrived quite late, and had to ring the bell a few times outside the gate. But check in was really fast. In the morning, great breakfast and coffee, and the owner called us to ask about our plans and gave us tips and directions. Really good!

Poor service affected the stay
The rooms were okay though not great (water pressure was intermittent, safe didn't open), but we will definitely not stay here again because the management is not honest on their communications. He seemed more interested in making excuses and saving face than serving customers. Perhaps it is a language barrier, but there were several things we were told regarding times (when the manager would be there, rental car arrival), prices (rental car) and arrangements (room reserved vs what was received, whether or not we could accompany the airport shuttle to the airport, where the rental car would be) that were not fulfilled or were different once we got there. The person that worked at night was very friendly and tried his best but did not know enough English to communicate with guests. The manager was also very rude to a friend of ours that tried to help with communications. It became an expectation that more would be incorrect/inconvenient as we moved through our short stay. We cancelled our last night there and went to a different hotel instead. I would NOT recommend this place.

Dear Susan, I apreciated very much your review, but I don´t know if you remember that I gave you 1 apartment to you (instead of 1 doble room) and 2 double rooms instead of 1 double room for your friends ( for the same price you paid), regarding the car, I gave you the information of the price of the car for 6 days (and you expected to pay the same price for 7 days), of course the price is totally different (and you didn´t pay to the car rental the 7th day and I do not why. The car you received was much better / for 7 people). I just want to tell you That: I AM VERY HONEST, that why 93% of our guests recomend our place 12 certificates of excelence in 4 years (is very good). Best regards. Attentive staff
We enjoyed our evening there and the staff was very attentive. There is a great view of the sunset and volcanoes from the top floor balcony. Be aware that the staff speaks limited English. My husband spoke some Spanish so we didn’t have any problems, but you need to be aware of that.

Great little quick spot for me
First and foremost please know two hotel volcanoes are in San Jose - specify to the taxi driver - I did but apparently it wasn't clear enough. I didn't stay long about 10p to around 7a it was a quick little dropin before heading out to the airport. It was a very nice place to stay and included free airport transfers and a wonderful fresh meal in the morning. The very handsome young man working late last night wasn't fluent in English but we made it work with my broken Spanish and a bunch of smiles. A really delightful little place. I lounged on the hammocks for as long as I could before leaving. I would reccomend. I would stay again for sure.

The staff was friendly and very helpful. We met the owner and he was awesome!!! My friend and I had a wonderful stay and enjoyed the common area where we met people from other countries and other U.S. citizens.

quaint little b&b with very nice staff
small b&b with 5-10 rooms around a nice green courtyard staff are super friendly and helpful and speak some english too room was clean and fairly simple, not super fancy. water pressure in the room was weak. wifi worked great the whole time. not a lot within walking distance, but uber and taxi are available. room was mostly quiet. would recommend.

Nice quaint b&b
Small quaint b&b, super nice and friendly staff that speak decent english. Room was a little outdated but clean and comfortable. Not a lot of walkable attractions nearby but uber and taxi available. Included breakfast was tasty and homemade. Reasonably quiet room. Good wifi. Would recommend.

I had an absolutely lovely stay ! Peter, Carlos, and staff were all very amazing and pleasanty helpful with any questions. I arrived pretty late at night, and also needed to change the date once which was very easy with only a phone call. If your looking for a quite, peaceful, and extremely price friendly location. Look no more! Peter, Carlos and crew I will surely be seeing you all again in the future.

Charming place to spend a night near the airport
We chose Vista Los Volcanes as a place to stay close by the airport the night before we flew out of Costa Rica. It more than met our expectations - comfortable, beautiful, charming, safe, with a delicious breakfast and super-comfortable hammocks outside to relax in, not to mention free shuttle service to the airport. We wish we were able to spend more time there!

Little Nice Hotel
My two sisters and Myself stayed in this Hotel. Yes it looks more like a house than a high end hotel but are stay was more than 3 stars. The rooms are nice and comfortable. Its in the middle of a nice town but there's things to see and do around there (if you look for it). However, the best part of staying here wasn't the hotel its self but the employees that work there specially the owner. He definitely goes beyond 100% to make sure you find want you are looking for. Because it is a small hotel and it's in the middle of a small town, most tours don't pick you up from the hotel However, the owner and all the arrangements for you and he gives you the same cheap price than the broucher (most of the time hotel rice the price). I was surprise to see how nice they treated us. It was more than what I expected. If I ever go again, I would stay here again. PS- Breakfast is great and If you get a tour that day, the cooks makes you a small fruit bowl for you to take :-)

B&B Vista Los Volcanes is not a 5 star hotel, as you said: a family enviroment.......is because we always try to improve our services every day... yes we are located in a little town, but that was our idea when we constructed our building (to have a real Costa Rican experience....... like a Costa Rican Familiy). Carlos's hospitality was amazing. He was pleasant friendly and welcoming. He made us feel like we were family. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Breakfast was delicious. It is located about 15 to 20 minutes outside of the city in a very private and quiet neighborhood.

Lovely location with great staff & beautiful view
We only stayed one night at Vista Los Vocanes, but wish we could have stayed longer. We were greeted on arrival by the friendly staff who helped us check in and get comfortable. They were very attentive to our needs, and made sure we had everything we needed. We did not meet the owner - Carlos - until later that evening, but we were in good hands with his team. Once he arrived (just back from his own vacation), he greeted us immediately and made sure we had all the information we needed, even before he settled back in himself. He spoke excellent English, but was very complimentary of my own efforts to speak Spanish. We had a marvelous breakfast the next morning, prepared by the lovely Italian gentleman who had also checked us in, whose name, I realized later, I did not get. We did enjoy his company, his singing, his stories of Italy, and the wonderful food he prepared for us, at a very early hour, so we could be on the road, So thoughtful. Be sure to check out the view from the upstairs lounge, with the lovely views of Poas and Barva Volcanos. I would highly recommend Vista Los Volcanes for a visit to central Costa RIca. It's near the airport, without being in the city itself, and there are great restaurants very nearby. Gated security for the car is a plus, and there is hammock to enjoy. Wonderful staff and very comfortable.

OKAY Room & Location, Staff was very nice.
We just stayed here on our last night in Costa Rica. We had a room on the lower level and there was no view, so if you want a view request a room on the second floor. The room was clean and had some interesting details. We walked down to the San Joaquin town center for dinner and found it was a longer walk than we thought and there were few choices and not much to look at. The staff was very nice and the breakfast was pretty good. The price did include an appreciated drive to the airport.

Great little B&B to stay in if you want to stay near the airport the night before your international flight. Free airport shuttle, location was near a walkable downtown, breakfast, and hotel condition were all nice features. The owner and staff were great. My only real complaint is that our room was next to the kitchen, which woke us up a little earlier than planned. The quick refills on our coffee during breakfast took care of our tiredness and there was lots of good company during the meal (other U.S. & Canada tourists). Overall, I would recommend this place.

Wrong room but nice staff & good food!
We were not given the room we requested. The woman who welcomed us was kind & friendly but gave us a room with 4 single beds. We should have had two full sized beds upstairs with a balcony. She did not speak nor understand English. It was in a fully gated area so we felt safe. We were able to get her to order dinner for us from a takeout menu in our room. We gave her colones & she got a taxi & brought us our dinner. She arranged for our shuttle the next morning. The breakfast was very good & the hostess was very friendly. She spoke very little English. We were uncomfortable with the language barrier but everything worked out fine. The manager was the shuttle driver who asked why we stayed in the incorrect room. We told him this was what the woman the night before gave us. He was very apologetic & gave us a discount on our room. There was a hammock that I enjoyed on the grounds.

Wonderful stay. Customer service is awesome. Great communication prior to travel. Breakfast is a great start to the day. And free airport pickup was also there waiting for us even though our flight was an hour late and it was 1 am. THANK YOU! Carlos was waiting for us right outside our room upon arrival at the hotel to settle us in and said wait till morning to settle bill. So friendly and welcoming. Wished we had stayed more than one night.

Rooms had perfect floor plans for our group and the rate was very good for the quality of the experience.
