Amazing, unique, adventurous experience
The property was nicely appointed, comfortable beds, great screen porch for meals and very quiet in tucked away side “street.” (A path that deadends into a wooded nook). Assuming the one neighboring house is empty (it was for us and we felt like we had our own little piece of the woods). A utility shed has beach supplies, bikes, games, but the game changer was the included Kawasaki Mule, which was our ever present guide and explorer of this wild island. Everyday we’d discover something or somewhere knew in this vehicle that could travel just about anywhere. And most of the time we were the only ones at these destinations. Such a unique place. Use Emma’s to help you book a fishing trip. We had a great time with Capt Massa. Use Sharron Grovner for a local dinner, and her mom Lula supposedly hosts a great dinner too.

Property itself was very nice
Overall, the property is quite nice. Sapelo Island itself isn't much to visit in the winter time or, frankly, any time at all unless you're really into hanging out on pristine, secluded beaches. (In season, in terms of activities, I suppose fishing from the beach -- surf casting -- might be fun & productive. And birding's always available, though I wouldn't say Sapelo Island is a riot of interesting bird life.) In retrospect, my main feeling is that while the property is nice and the manager, John LaFeve, is extremely on-the-ball and responsive, the rental is not worth the price -- it's too expensive for what you "get" or need.

Consistently Exceptional
My family has vacationed at this property for the last 2 Labor Day holidays. And we'll likely be there next Labor Day. The home was well appointed, clean, and well stocked on both occasions. My children LOVE the tree swing in the front yard. Watching deer, cows (seriously), armadillos, and skinks from the backyard is simply amazing. Location is perfect. The home is just far enough out of Hog Hammock to make you feel like you are in your own world, and yet the little general store is only 5 minutes away. The motorized mule that comes with the rental is a must in order to take the old non-paved road to the beach. Looking forward to my next trip to Chachalaca!

Best VRBO yet
Our stay has been absolutely wonderful. This house has everything you need. Very comfortable. Beds are great - but tall! The Mule was fun. John, property manager, was on top of things for us. I hope Sapelo stays undeveloped and the beach as pristine as it is. Quiet quiet quiet. I was the only person in the water this afternoon. We’ve already booked a return stay. Taking home memories and sand dollars. Short drive to beach, but you wouldn’t want to walk it. A really nice place to stay. Just keep it simple with food and clothes that you have to tote on the ferry, and enjoy the quiet.

special place
From start to finish this is a very special place to retreat for a long weekend or more. The cottage is more than comfortable and surrounded by beautiful trees. They have really thought of everything you might need, and it really makes a difference. We loved the Southern food Sherron brought by each night, and it was an added treat to hear her stories about growing up on the island. Our dog was in heaven to be able to run free on the trails and beach (which we had all to ourselves). John was so helpful helping us haul all of our provisions over in his boat and truck...even let us take a look at their other properties on the Darien side. We will be back soon! Thank you for a perfect weekend.

Anniversary trip
Sapelo Island is the perfect place to get away from everything……..and I do mean everything! It does take some effort to get there but, well worth it. The house was amazing; the craftsmanship was impeccable, and the house was very comfortable. We enjoyed the backyard very much. We had a fire every night and my husband enjoyed fresh oysters that we bought locally before boarding the ferry. We visited the beach and the lighthouse with the ATV provided. I enjoyed reading on the screened in back porch. Our two dogs, Jinny and Ranger, loved the yards and chased many a squirrel and rabbit. We had a meal prepared and delivered by Cheron one night and it was delicious and very affordable. It was just a great 4 days. John and the whole gang at Emma’s are amazing to work with and they take pride in there homes and always take good care of their quests.

Amazing home
The home is beautiful! We saw so many deer and other animals out back during morning coffee. The walks on the empty miles of beaches were perfect. I don’t know if there is a better place to go to really get away from it all than this place. Thank you John for making it extra special with all the goodies and treats.

The Perfect Retreat
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Chachalaca. The location is tucked away down a long lane where only the sounds of nature can be heard. Quite enough that you can hear the waves of the ocean in the distance. The house itself was beautiful and well maintained. We especially enjoyed the screened back porch where we ate our breakfasts. Thanks to John for arranging the use of the mule which made it easy to get around the island and out to the beach which we had pretty much to ourselves. Saw about a dozen people in the three days we were there. Looking forward to coming back with more of our family next time.

Amazing Family Vacation!
We absolutely loved this charming cabin and our trip to Sapelo Island for fall break. We explored stunning beaches, the historic mansion and saw wildlife galore. The entire island really is a photographer’s dream setting. The home had everything we needed for our multi-night stay. We cooked pretty extensively and brought several Blue Apron meals. There is a small very small shop, but no grocery store once you are on the island. All the bedrooms were perfectly clean and seemed newly renovated and furnished. The open family room was wonderful and we spent time playing bird games on back porch. The mule cart, for transportation, was a necessity and made exploring the island a breeze. The oak trees are gorgeous and huge. This is definitely a remote island; yet, it is a perfect place to recharge and focus on family and wellness! We definitely plan to be back, hopefully many more times over the years!
