Where to stay

in Siem Reap

Just north of Siem Reap, Angkor Wat is an impressive complex built in the 12th century as a funerary temple for Cambodia's Khmer kings. It stands today as the world's largest religious monument. While a visit to the region is likely to focus on these wats and temples, exploring other nearby sites is also quite worthwhile. The city and its neighborhoods have varied museums, cultural attractions, and great dining. Accommodations range from small boutique hotels to five-star resorts and spas. Decide where to stay to match your budget and itinerary.

Great Neighborhoods for Culture and History

Siem Reap's primary cultural attractions are the many temples and other structures that are part of the ancient Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom complexes a few miles north of the city. View the moat and tall towers in varying stages of decay, yet still impressive. Ta Prohm, just east of Angkor Wat, adds even more fascinating spots to explore. Choose a hotel in Downtown Siem Reap and travel to these temple sites within about 15 minutes. For other interesting experiences, stay near Sok San Road to see a Cambodian circus or visit cultural shows in neighborhoods across the city featuring performances of the beautiful traditional apsara ballet. Downtown is also a convenient place to stay to visit the War Museum Cambodia and Angkor National Museum, while the Cambodia Landmine Museum requires driving several miles beyond Angkor Thom.
