Spring Break
We decided to check out Spokane for our Spring Break and had a wonderful vacation staying at the cabin. It was serene, peaceful and so very relaxing. Fully loaded kitchen and Costco nearby so we cooked all of our dinners and enjoyed great lunches around town. Great for kids too, a media room with access to Disney and Netflix, plenty of back yard fun and a swing too! We loved our stay!

White Christmas
Had a warm, white Christmas with our family at a home away from home. The cabin was comfortable, clean and was a perfect spot to spend the Holiday. We were able to snow shoe and ski MtSpokane and cooked big dinners in the updated kitchen, watched movies on the HUGE TV with surround sound, played games next to the fire, sat in the hot tub and slept like kings in the comfy beds. Would love to stay here again in the summer.

Awesome 7 night stay
Property looks like pictures. Hot tub very clean & relaxing. Kitchen very well stocked. Comfy beds, plenty of seating. Nice large tv room, comfy recliners great place to watch a movie or game. Best part of property was the view. Down private road, quite peaceful Saw deer daily and bunnies. Saw wild turkeys and a large owl, best part saw a moose in the lot next door. Lots of outdoor seating to enjoy the slow moving little Spokane view. Rick was quick to answer any questions I had.

Log cabin river front house!
Found this gem for my nephews wedding in Colbert. We were only 6 minutes away so it was perfect. We loved staying in a real log cabin and the place was clean and decorated nicely so it felt like home. We enjoyed several fiocks of Canadian geese that flew right over the river. It was beautiful! We also enjoyed the deer that came through every morning and evening. Our family that lives in Colbert loved the house too and will recommend to people who visit them and need a place to stay. It was a perfect long weekend and the host Rick was great. He made sure we had everything we needed while there. We will definitely stay again when visiting family there. We hope to get to use the hot tub next time as we didn’t have time this time around! Sue and family 😊

Property was nice, property manager was not
Overall this house is a good place to stay at if you have a lot of people, but the property management makes you climb through a bunch of hoops in order to stay there. A few days before my stay, which had my friends staying there for my wedding, I get a call with a lot of questions on what I was doing there, what type of people are staying there even though I already gave them a list of anyone that was stepping foot on the property, and why I was renting a car when I live in Spokane. He then threatened to cancel my reservation a few days before my wedding date if I did not "convince" him why my group should get to stay. I get they have probably had their place trashed in the past, but that is the risk you take with hosting big houses like this and that is why you have insurance. My group left this place spotless and I got a bad taste in my mouth about this whole experience. Also, the river on the property is not swimmable. It is pretty gross water and you are not supposed to swim in the little spokane river.

Little Piece of Heaven
It was even nicer than the pictures. The home was so cute and immaculate. We were supplied everything we needed. It felt like it was new to the marketplace as everything was pristine. The property was irrigated by the Little Spokane River that flows along one side and the yard was great and lush and every day deer and domesticated rabbits visited us. It was lovely and quiet and the perfect spot for us to relax after being with extended family all day.

Wow wow wow! I probably don’t need to say anything more than that… but I will! This property is beautifully maintained and exactly as advertised. The guest suite was ideal for my parents and the house provided a ton of space for four adults and three children. We had a resident bunny who joined us every day, all day; deer who showed up every morning just in time for coffee; and lots of ducks and other birds who added to the feeling of being somewhere private and remote. YET! Still so close to shopping, restaurants, the fabulous Spokane River Front (check out Flow Adventures - we had a lot of fun floating the River) and even Silverwood which is a must for anyone with kids. This place is a gem and we will definitely be back!!!

Renter beware, not as good as advertised!
Full disclosure, i am an owner and manager of a vrbo property We booked this property in late December during the holidays. A month before our arrival, I get an email from Rick stating that I had not sent an email back with the guest names and age. He proceeded to tell me that if if didn’t complete that process within 24 hours, he would cancel my reservation. A simple email to remind me of my oversight would have been sufficient. Spokane reached 100 degrees the week we visited. We checked out of our Cour D Alene tenral at 11am and we asked Rick if we can check in early. As expected, Rick said no and asked us to wait until his cleaning crew completed the job. Rick has a very strict checkout time at 10:30am. In my experience owning and managing a vrbo with houses bigger than Rick’s, Is that I can have the house ready in 3 hours after the checkout time. Rick was non-responsive all the way to check in time. I kept asking if the house was ready knowing the cleaning crew could have been done early. I always let my guest check in early, but he made us wait until 4pm. Rick never asked us if we needed anything nor he checked in with us during our stay. We decided not to ask him for anything else due to his rude behavior. Rick might get good reviews because he promises a $50 voucher for one of his rental properties in the future if you leave a review. Least to say, I will never ever book another property that Rick owns. The house is super small, has a ton of confusing outlets with extension cords (fire hazard), he doesn’t provide any tubes or anything fun to enjoy the river. The house is far from downtown (which he states), but you can find much better properties in town. You can also find better responsive owners that care about their guests. Lastly, Rick puts a ton of restrictions on what can be done around the house. 1) air conditioner can’t go below 72 because it might freeze. If it’s 100 outside, there’s no way the unit will freeze. 2) strict septic tank, so you have to be extremely careful 3) house pictures are much better than the actual house. His rules are rigid and you better comply or he has a list of fees he will charge after the trip. Good luck!

Response from VrboOwner on Sep 7, 2023
I was very surprised and frankly saddened to receive the above feedback from this guest who stayed at our Storybook property from July 24-27. As VRBO owners, we work diligently to provide our valued guests with clean, well-maintained and safe properties. We do have strict policies which are all clearly stated on our website and communicated to our guests in advance of their stay. These policies are in place to assure that our guests have the best experience possible while staying with us. Our standards of cleanliness are extremely high and our properties are truly unique and we are proud of these facts. Compare what this person wrote with 100’s of other reviews written about this Storybook River-Front property… We feel this person was not truthful or objective. It’s what I call a “hit piece” intended only to hurt. I could address each of the above "criticisms" in great detail. But, perhaps the best response to this guest might be to share with you the feedback we received from our guest that stayed at this property IMMEDIATELY AFTER. Here's the comments we received from guest that stayed at our River-Front home on July 28 through August 3rd: …...................................... Breathtaking! - Wow wow wow! I probably don’t need to say anything more than that… but I will! This property is beautifully maintained and exactly as advertised. The guest suite was ideal for my parents and the house provided a ton of space for four adults and three children. Serenity
This property is far enough away from any road to hear no traffic but only an 18 minute drive to downtown to see the sights and eat at arguably the best steakhouse in Spokane if not the state; Churchills. . The large living room picture window looks out at the winding Little Spokane River 100’ from the house where a pair geese and ducks decided to stick around. Also a pair of approachable but elusive bunnies are always easy to spot on the wonderfully well kept grounds. I got up every morning and took my coffee outside, I don’t mind the cold, and took in the quiet beauty. The house itself fits well in the surroundings as it is a very comfortable and well appointed log cabin. Everything you need is there. Tip- Bring your favorite board games. The spa is practically new and couldn’t be cleaner and is situated to take in the river views. I’m looking forward to coming back in the summer and kayaking to who knows where and getting a ride back! Would also like to come back in the dead of winter and do nothing. The house can be kept as warm as you like it with two gas fireplaces AND central heat. Thanks to Rick and the staff for a nice new getaway location. Kevin Mendocino County, California

We traveled from Oregon to meet friends from Montana for 3 days at this home. It is a lovely, wonderful home, well equipped with a perfect layout for 2 couples. We brought good food and drink to share, and spent most of our time visiting in the living room. The birds and wildlife are a big time bonus. Home is very clean and well cared for. We didn’t use the outdoor space because of weather. Highly recommend. (For anyone with slight mobility issues, the bathrooms are remodeled and accessible.)

Whitworth visit
Relaxed and rejuvenated at Storybrook cabin! The cabin was very clean and well stocked for our weekend visit from Seattle's Best coffee to pancake syrup! I knew we would be near the river but didn't realize the cabin has a beautiful view right from the living room couch. We enjoyed watching several bunnies, geese and deer during our stay. The neighborhood is very quiet and ideal for visiting our adult children who are students are Whitworth. The Whitworth campus is less than ten minutes away from the cabin and all the amenities of Spokane. We also went for a trail run at Little Spokane River Natural Area which was approximately a 15 minute drive. The movie room was perfect for a cozy family evening. We had our 4-year old with us and there were no toys in the cabin. Not a problem but just a heads up if you are bringing small children. We would definitely love to stay at Storybrook again if we are in the area. Thank you for a wonderful time!

Idyllic Storybook honeymoon!
We could not have pictured a more tranquil and romantic place to honeymoon! Rick was an absolutely outstanding host and took special care to ensure we had the best possible experience. He provided detailed and accurate instructions, and checked in with us to ensure our stay was perfect. The house is even more beautiful in person than we could have imagined! We especially enjoyed sitting on the rolling green lawn right next to the Little Spokane river, watching the ducks, deer, and even otters! After a day of zip-lining, hiking, or boating on the Coeur d'Alene lake, the volcano hot tub was just the thing we needed to wind down in the evenings. We loved how close the house is to downtown Spokane with plenty to see, but felt so private and tucked away in the forest. We can't wait to come back someday - we hope to make this a regular vacation spot after we fell in love it!

Cozy cabin in the woods
Beautiful, lush green, and cozy property tucked away along the Little Spokane River. We were fortunate to observe a moose who had no problem eating leaves out of a tree while we relaxed just 10 feet away in the piping hot spa. The kitchen was brand new and well appointed. The bedrooms were quiet and comfortable. The TV room was amazing and another great area to relax after a long day of exploring. Grocery store and modern conveniences only a few miles away. The owner checked in with me during my stay to make sure everything was to my liking. I highly recommend this property and would love to to return during the winter months.

Amazing riverside family stay
Our family had a fantastic time at the Storybook home on Little Spokane River. The view and wildlife were amazing. The space is great for a family of four with separate bedrooms for the two teens as well as a great theatre room with good wi-fi for online schooling. The hot tub was fantastic with a view of the river. The kitchen is beautiful with granite countertops and awesome gas stove. The furniture and beds are incredibly comfortable. Everything was fantastic. The teens and us parents loved the space and tranquility. We enjoyed the hot tub, watched movies in the theatre and played games on the dining room table. I highly recommend this property! You will not be dissappointed.

Unaccommodating!
This log cabin house is situated along a small river with a pastoral and peaceful setting. This property is comfortable, with a well-maintained and well-outfitted somewhat rustic log cabin. I would give the house 4 out of 5 stars. The problem was that the NW wildfire smoke rolled in 2 days before our visit with "hazardous" air quality (AQI in 480 range). We called and tried to change our dates, even willing to have the owner select dates that would not be likely to be booked. But despite repeated efforts, the manager/owner refused to consider this, claiming that it was unfair for them to take this loss (which we never suggested!). The City of Spokane advised against any outside activity and to avoid any unnecessary travel. As a result we remained confined within the house - no outside restaurant dining, no riding our bikes as planned, no walks or hikes. I would consider the smoke and the resulting hazardous air quality to be an unplanned but yet an extenuating circumstance. Not attempting to make any accommodation is unacceptable. 1 star!

Our first get away since COVID and we couldn’t have picked a more welcoming spot. Close to shopping for stocking up on the many goodies we cooked during our stay. Spotless and furnished with everything we could possible need. Wildlife galore-deer, ducks, quail, fish and turkey. An afternoon of fishing interrupted by wildfire smoke alerts on our phones. Intense smoke from fires all up the west coast necessitated an indoor stay for the rest of our trip but we couldn’t have had a better place to hunker down. Read books by the fire and watched movies in the movie room. A restful visit despite the smoke. We’ll be back.

Beautiful weekend getaway
Sometimes you see listings that are not as promised... Not this cabin! It's everything described and more! We came for a weekend away to explore Spokane and had intentions of going to a few places... However, once we arrived we kind of scrapped everything and just stayed in all weekend! It was snowing when we arrived and there were deer roaming the property! The river is so peaceful... Sitting in the hot tub while it snowed was surreal. Our kids brought their panning for gold set and spent hours near the river's edge. They may not have struck it rich, but they definitely had a blast! The fireplaces are warm, the media room is a great place to watch movies as a family, and the kitchen has basically everything you need... Including a regular coffee pot or a Keurig. You just have to bring your pods! It's so tranquil, so peaceful, and so relaxing you literally forget that 5 min away is everything you need if your forgot something. If we come back to Spokane, we will definitely see if the cabin is available again!
