Three nights with three friends: just steps away from one of the most beautiful plazas in Spain (though the plaza restaurants do tend to be mainstream international tourist). Views out the back of the castle, from the front, the plaza. Was nice to be back in Trujillo after 4 years. Within the walls is an architectural wonderland and the views from the top of the tower of Sta Maria La Mayor are stunning: 100km and more. But sit by the castle and you look straight down at farms and the cowbells are clearly heard.
Spend a couple of hours here and you might be repelled by the arrogance of the people who built fortresses in the town; a day gives you the chance to realise what a lovely place this is.
And, besides, it makes a good base for visiting Merida, Caceres, Guadeloupe or the Monfrague park.
