Great location for the price

We've stayed at the Hotel de France both times we've visited Austria. To be honest, the room we got the first stay was much nicer than the one we were given most recently. During last week's stay, we were originally given a room that was small, dark, and depressing. This was after we'd been forced to change clothes in the hotel lobby bathroom when we arrived early that morning, because there were supposedly no rooms available, not even upgrades. When I mentioned the room we'd stayed in on our previous trip, another room miraculously became available. That being said, there was nothing wrong with the hotel once we settled into our room. It's in a great location; it literally sits in front of a subway and tram stop, from which you can easily get anywhere in the city and its outskirts in just a few minutes. The Rathaus and Votive church are no more than a five-minute walk away and even Staphansdom can be reached on foot in a half hour or less. The breakfast was fine, and the staff were cheerful and competent. We had a great time.

GOOD LOCATION

Posted Nov 5, 2014
Pros: LOCATION, FREE WIFI
Cons: TV AND GENERAL DECOR
Location: SHOPPING DISTRICT WITHIN 5 MIN WALK
BOOKED A SUPREME DOUBLE BUT WAS GIVEN A TWIN ROOM. ASKED TO BE MOVED AND WAS WITHOUT A FUSS- STAFF HANDLED THE SITUATION WELL. ROOM NOT REALLY A "SUPREME" STANDARD. TV WAS OLD AND DATED. SHOWER NOT BAD BUT A LITTLE SMALL.

Great Location

Posted Oct 29, 2014
Pros: The location, service of the staff
Cons: Wifi strength, choice of pillows.
Location: you can visit the Volkgarten, Rathauspark,Town Hall which is only about 10 mins walk from the Hotel
We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights. The location of the hotel was great as it was only about 50 m to the nearest tram stop and within walking distance of a number of attractions like The Town Hall,Volksgarten and Rathuspark. The size of the room was good, it even had a separate dressing area and extra toilet. However, the TV was old fashioned and small for the size of the room. The pillows were too soft for us as we prefer firmer pillows. Also, the wifi strength was unstable and we needed to key in a new password every 24 hrs which was very tedious. We did not eat breakfast at the hotel as we feel the price of 26 Euros per person was too high. However, the staff were friendly & helpful

An ideal hotel in an excellent situation

Posted Oct 13, 2014
This hotel is in an ideal position, within walking distance to many of the attractions Vienna has to offer and with an underground station just outside the hotel easy to get to any destination. Our room, on the 5th floor, was excellent, very large and very nicely furnished with a large amount of storage and a very good bathroom. It was somewhat warm and we had the windows open for our entire stay otherwise very comfortable. Do ask for extra pillows as they are soewhat thin, unless you like laying flat! The staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast staff excellent. Breakfast was very good with a wide choice but unless it is included in the price of your booking is very expensive.

Very Close to Metro Line

Posted Oct 13, 2014
Pros: The location.
Cons: We asked the lady at the front desk about the historic gold tram ride and where to find it but didn't tell us it stopped 3 hours earlier.
Location: It's very near a metro station and you can go anywhere easily.
Beautiful hotel that was close to everything we wanted to see. There is a hop on / hop off bus stop not far from the hotel and a metro station within 50 feet. We LOVED this location.
