A quiet sublime setting. Great being back in the Driftless. Very comfortable cabin. Screened in porch✅ .. life devolved down to simple .. reading aloud to one another from selections on hand✅ .. the little stove was efficient .. really could not have imagined a better 2 days..

Another Perfect Stay in this Magical Place!
This was my second time staying here and only continue to be amazed by the property, cabins, hosts and Driftless area! We had everything we needed at the cabin. I absolutely love being able to walk out the door right onto trails. It snowed two of the nights and the host was very attentive to making sure the driveway up was plowed and communicated when it was cleared. I really cannot say enough good things about this stay! Thanks for the memories!

Solitude & Nature
We had an amazing stay at the Tanager cabin! The property is quiet & peaceful with lots of mature trees, and the skies are so dark that it's perfect for stargazing! We (and our pups) enjoyed the couple miles of well maintained & easy to follow hiking trails right outside our door! The woodstove & decor give the cabin a rustic yet modern feel. It was sparkling clean & extremely well appointed with comfy beds & sheets, cozy blankets, a spa-like shower, fast wifi & even delicious locally roasted organic coffee. Rodney recommended some fabulous places (Driftless Cafe, Maybe Lately's, Wooly Bear Tavern) which were only a 15-20 minute drive away. We hope to come back again & experience it in other seasons!

Best place for family getaway!
We loved this adorable cabin so much. My kids enjoyed it even there was no TV to watch. The best part was the fireplace. Everything was very clean and just the right size and super functional. We really enjoyed the fresh coffee so much and it tasted so good I had to look for it online. Thank you very much Rodney for sending forgotten hat. Definetly coming back in the summer. 😊👍🏠❤️

A cozy getaway
We visited for a quiet getaway between Christmas and New Year’s. The cabin is located about 15-20 minutes from Viroqua. Upon arrival, we were pleased to see that although there are other rental cabins on the property, each was spaced far enough away for privacy. The cabin is very nicely decorated and has modern amenities throughout. While there isn’t a lot of sitting area, we especially appreciated the comfortable chairs and the wood stove. The loft was great for sleeping and our dog loved exploring outside on long walks. We’d like to return in warmer months to make use of the large screened porch. A beautiful place to stay and relax!

Relaxing nature getaway
Being at the cabin gave my husband and I a sense of calm and relaxation. As soon as we we walked in we were greeted with the mild, pleasant scent of the knotty pine interior. The warm wood tones inside also contributed to the calm and relaxed atmosphere. The cabin was well equipped with everything we needed. The property was beautiful. We enjoyed morning nature hikes, and explored all of the well built trails. Words don’t do justice the peace and tranquility this place has to offer. It’s not just a place to stay while you’re in the area. It’s a place to decompress and recharge.

Exceeds All Expectations
Our stay at Driftless Creek was beyond anything we had hoped for. The cabin was perfect, the scenery was postcard worthy, and our host Rodney was a top-notch communicator. The dark skies allowed for some great star gazing - along with the Orionid meteor shower. The nearby town of Viroqua water was buzzing on Saturday morning, but was quieter by Sunday. If you want to get away from it all and recharge - there is no better place.

Another great weekend
This was our second time staying at Tanager Cabin. I told Rodney we would be coming in late. When we arrived, the lights were on, much appreciated. The cabin has a little bit for everyone, fishing for me and shopping for my wife. We all enjoyed hiking the trails, especially our two labs.

Great get-away
The cabin is neat, organized, and nestled in the woods far enough from town so you can enjoy the night stars. Inside it smelled of fresh cedar. Impressively, the air conditioning unit kept temperatures in the 70's despite the sweltering 100+ temperatures outside. We appreciated the thoughtful decor, including books by local authors and a ukulele and guitar meant to use and enjoy. Directions to the cabin were clear and maps of the surrounding trails neatly laid out enjoyable walks around the property. Great to have a bag of local coffee at the cabin to enjoy in the morning. Overall, a wonderful time! We'd recommend it to others and hope to return someday.

Lovely get-away
We really enjoyed this quiet, cozy cabin! The trails were so accessible and fun for our young kids - especially the one leading to the tree swing. It was fun to hear cows in the distance at night. The accommodations are so comfortable and come with everything you need. We loved the Wonderstate coffee, grill with all the tools, and amazing screened in porch. Highly recommend for a relaxing, beautiful get-away!

Serenity Retreat!!
Nestled in the driftless region of SW Wisconsin, this little getaway was just what my friends and I needed! This charming, immaculate cabin was equipped with everything to make our stay comfortable and memorable. Revitalizing vacation
My wife and our two adult children stayed three nights in the tanager cabin. Outside, we were greeted with an abundance of wildlife. We saw many different birds including the scarlet tanager, indigo bunting, gold finch, Baltimore oriole and pileated woodpecker. Our Labrador retriever enjoyed walking the many trails found on the property. There are also sitting benches for when you get tired. The area has something for everyone. Viroqua is bubbling with activity. There are shops for every interest including a local fly shop. For the trout fishermen, there are miles and miles of great fishing water. Being it was a family vacation, I stayed close and fished within a mile an a half of the cabin. The fishing was great. I lucked into a blue wing olive hatch and had one of my best days of dry fly fishing. On our way home, we were planning our next trip.

Beautiful remote property
My partner and I were extremely pleased with the cleanliness and layout of our cabin (Tanager). Two small cautions: First, the steep road up to the property could be tricky for larger vehicles, and second, the staircase has one easy-to-miss triangular step - we placed books on one side of the steps to make sure we could see depth & remember not to miss the “invisible” triangular step. (All are painted the same color & the two triangles can look deceptively like one square step.) The recommendations left by Rodney were thorough and helpful, and everything was in the cabin except for brown paper to kindle a fire, but luckily we’d brought newspaper. The stove and fire pit are very nice and easy to use, and the screened-in porch was perfect for Scrabble on rainy days. Viroqua is a very nice town with a wonderful used bookstore (open in summer), and we were pleased with the co-op and Pacifico Mexican restaurant as well. We’ll definitely keep Driftless Cabins on our list for future vacations!

Tanager works so well with Towhee and Vireo Cabins
This was our first trip to Driftless Creek cabins. Our extended family of 16 occupied all three cabins for 3 wonderful nights. See Vireo cabin review “Three Cabins that are Perfect for Large Family Gatherings”. Rodney was an amazing host! His friendliness and responsiveness were second to none! Everything mentioned in the cabins descriptions is spot on. You can expect it to be exactly as you read or saw in the cabin photos. The cabins were exceptionally clean and everything in the cabins was in new to excellent condition. The beds are so comfortable you almost don’t want to get out of bed in the morning! The firepit is great and comes with plenty of firewood. Everyone spent time hiking or mountain-biking on the trails. The night sky gets so dark and the quietness of the place is incredible. An especially nice touch was the local coffee beans and grinder for an amazing cup of joe to start the day! We also enjoyed the nice selection of books.

Very Relaxing and Peaceful
We loved staying at this property, the cabin is adorable and matches the pictures perfectly. It was just the right amount of space for our family. We came to have some down time and definitely felt very relaxed the entire time we were there. The cabin was nicely appointed and had most of what we needed. We walked several of the trails on the property and visited the tree swing a few times. It was nice having the porch to be outside at night and avoid the bugs. We also enjoyed a few fires outside in the fire pit. I would recommend bringing lawn chairs if you would like to sit by the fire at night and also for additional seating on the porch. There is seating available in both places, but for extended use lawn chairs would have been more comfortable for us. I would definitely stay here again or another one of the properties and are hoping to return in the fall.

Super clean, private, rustic but new well kept cabin! Lots of special touches! Would give 5 stars but fridge was smaller than a dorm fridge- bring a cooler with ice for your groceries. Also sitting area was really small and only for 2 people even though there are 2 bedrooms with 3 beds. Great area for fishing, hiking, and relaxing! Very accommodating hosts!

Cozy Modern Driftless
My husband and I have stayed in many cabins around Wisconsin during the pandemic and this was our favorite property, hands down — the smart layout, cozy decor and all the modern touches really made our trip. We hope to come back and visit during the summer so we can really enjoy the beautiful screened in porch. Do note that the private switchback road is a bit steep and may be challenging during snow. We knew this going in and decided to chance it anyway with our Prius and snow tires — we were just fine. Rodney is an amazing and communicative host and goes above and beyond to make his guests comfortable. Thanks for a great getaway!

Cozy thoughtful cabin
The Driftless Creek property is beautiful. On the top of a ridge line and with some lovely trails right on the property. Directions were perfect and once we made the trip a few times it became second nature — even in the dark. While the footprint of the cabin may not be large every inch of space is thoughtfully designed. The finishes are high end and everything thoughtfully laid out and provisioned. It lives large. We thought it was perfect and would not change a thing about it. The pictures just can’t possibly capture how special it is. Our two dogs loved the experience especially the ridge line hike which leads into a pine forest and down to the road. We look forward to returning to enjoy the screen porch. The hosts were very kind. There was about an inch of predicted snowfall and we were contacted right away advising the road would be plowed and salted if needed. Highly recommend visiting this region and staying here. If it’s winter all wheel drive is recommended. The driveway is steep. You will not be disappointed in the cabin or the property or the region. A must visit.

Brilliantly laid out little cabins with top notch amenities. We enjoyed the little wood burning stove, books, and instruments (such a lovely touch). Screened porch was great, we had so much fun exploring the grounds! It’s a bit further flung than you think—trust the directions! You may want a four wheel drive for the entrance. Overall just a wonderful getaway!

Wonderful getaway!
We stayed at this cabin for four nights. It was a lovely experience. The land to explore is lovely and the trails are marked for ease of moving around the property. My youngest son enjoyed the tree swing every day. It is situated close enough to Viroqua that you can get things you need and head down for some exploring in town, but far enough that it feels remote and private. Rodney was super helpful and responsive to some minor requests we had while we were staying there. The cabin main area is small, but fit our needs and the sleeping areas were more than enough space for my husband and myself, our two boys, and our two dogs. The large screened in porch was the highlight. The mosquitos are pretty bad this time of year, so being able to be outside while protected from those blood-suckers was a major plus. We played board games and lounged it the hammock and ate our dinner out there every night. I would highly recommend this for anyone looking for a private getaway. The cabin had everything we needed. We will definitely keep it in mind for future getaways!

Relaxing retreat
We had a wonderful stay! From sitting on the screened in porch listening to the peaceful sounds of nature to hiking the beautiful, quiet trails on the property and venturing out to the nearby countryside to fish and canoe, we thoroughly enjoyed our restful retreat. And our 3 teenage/tween boys loved their private time in the loft! The people we met were friendly, and Rodney was especially helpful and attentive. We will definitely return!

I echo everything that everyone else has said about this property as well as the owners. The cabin is small and cozy yet it didn't feel too small for the four of us over two days. Rodney is a wonderful host who was very communicative often within minutes of me sending an email with questions. The trails are fantastic I highly recommend the prairie one for a good look at the driftless area in our state. I also have to praise the towels for being extraordinarily soft and fluffy and the shower which had fantastic pressure and felt really good after hot sweaty day. It was a perfect trip. The getaway we needed this year.

Perfect peaceful retreat
This was our first trip to the Driftless region of Wisconsin--what a beautiful part of the state! The cabin exceeded our expectations;. The bed was super comfortable, and the towels and linens were fresh and soft. Loved the screened in porch and took a long nap in the hammock after reading some of the regional books thoughtfully presented for guests. We appreciated being able to bring our two small dogs, who loved the nearby walking paths. We also appreciated the ability to do a small load of laundry in the washer/dryer combo unit. Everything was incredibly private, clean, and quiet, with gorgeous scenery all around; I loved watching the fireflies come to life at night and the birds flitting through the trees in the morning. Thanks to Rodney & his family for the hospitality; we can't wait to visit again!
