I wanted a less expensive option to going to the mountains and seeing some temples than going to Kyoto or Nikko. Mitake-san is under 2000 yen and 2-3 hours by train (compare to Kyoto which can be 10 times that!!). I wanted to stay in a temple-type lodging or ryokan. This fit the bill nicely. The room was gorgeous and the robes and onsen (which I had completely to myself, being the only woman staying there) were so relaxing. I opted to eat at the hotel and the amount and quality of the food was just unbelievable! I didn't opt for the am waterfall purification however because it would prevent me from being in the onsen one last time!
This was my one "expensive" day out (the rest of my lodgings averaged $10 a day) so for me it was good value in one of the most expensive cities on earth.

This hotel is write next to the train station, very convenient if you need to stay in Tama. It is also located near restaurants, shops, etc. Tama is a little far from Tokyo, so if you have no business in Tama, you might want to consider something more central

"Nice hotel close to train station/shopping areas"
Friendly staff who can speak English well. Small double room but clean and tidy with WIFI free. Washroom is spacious. Breakfast buffet at 1500 yen each in Park Street restaurant which was very nice with various selections of Japanese and Western food. The design and sitting area in Park Street is very comfortable and pretty.

Very clean and comfortable. There was a mini fridge in the room. Soap, shampoo, conditioner and a hair dryer were also provided. The airport bus drops off just a few steps from the hotel. It's a short walk to the train station.

I have stayed at many different hotels in Japan, Keio Plaza Hotel Hachioji was on the high end of what you expect at a four star hotel. The staff was courteous and helpful. The hotel was clean and in a good location for shopping and restaurants. It is easily accessible by the Narita Limozine Bus.
