This hotel is in my opinion not fit to sleep in. The carpet and surfaces were dirty, and the mattress was covered in stains. We tried another room which turned out to be the same. So we decided not to stay and left.

Reasonably comfortable room. Disappointing that no bar service or hot breakfast was available. Woken up at 1:30 am by a security guard trying to kick down a door for guests locked out of their room!

A happy hotel stay whilst at a local concert.
We had a lovely stay at the Rose and Crown. The staff are really friendly and very helpful. Everything was as expected and needed. It is a very old hotel which made it an interesting building to stay in.

Our room wasn't cleaned during our 3 day stay stay and we had to ask for more toilet rolls and toiletries. Just used the hotel as an overnighter really as no food or alcohol on the premises. However the Italian gentlemen on the front desk was very welcoming and made our stay very pleasant. Understand there is a staffing problem.

Photos do not reflect the true state of the hotel
Room was not clean, torn tissue all over the floor, shower and toilet not clean. No pillowcases provided had to ask for them. The photos are not a true reflection of the state of the hotel. Staff were friedly and helpful, we did not eat here so cannot comment on breakfast.

Reception staff were excellent as were the night staff. The hotel is amazing, historic beauty. The hotel rooms could be cleaner, but the bedding was fresh and clean as were the towels. All in all it was a great stay in a town that has very little to offer. Great location central for what I needed. Hopefully this last hotel in Wisbech will remain a hotel, so many historic buildings in the area have already gone and all its doing is adding final insult to an already failing market town.

The Unhappy one.
Hotel Was fine, cleanliness very poor rooms poorly decorated one coat of paint , parts not painted breakfast poor no English breakfast, had continental BUT cereals looked stale no fruite to go with yoghurt only dusty apples so se had toast, manger was always moaning about staff and violence and crime in Wisbech center we don't see any, he was telling the few guests he had the same story Hotel needs revamp and new Manager his heart is not in the job , kept blaming staff for every thing in stead of training property I stay will stay again if up graded and new management.

It was last minute so was pleased to get a room and the receptionist was very polite and helpful however the room itself was basic it was clean but there was no bath plug the curtains were attempting to break free and when I say dated it would refer to the electrical maintenance.

The property was a listed Georgian property (1601), which was a fantastic, quirky building, steeped in history and could have been the most amazing hotel. Sadly it was not! The bedroom walls needed painting, there were cobwebs all over the place, the carpet needed vacuuming, the curtains were stained and there were leaks in the ceiling. There was a pool of water on the floor of the bathroom coming from a leak in the ceiling. We only had one cup provided for a cup of tea and only two sachets of milk, which meant that we could only have one drink between two of us. On a more positive note the bedding was clean and the receptionist was professional and friendly. I feel very disappointed that I paid so much money for such an unpleasant experience. It is such a shame.

Bedroom was unclean - carpet needed vacuuming, dead flies in the bathroom and window sills so you’d have to question how COVID safe it was. External noise was horrendous (needs double or triple glazing) Food was OK except no cooked option at breakfast. Bathroom needed re-grouting and re-sealing to get rid of dirty marks.

Nothing like the photos
The photos used for the rooms are wrong . We booked a superior room for £119 . We got a lower grade room . When I questioned this I was told photos were wrong . I pointed out the photos of the room we actually got was on a £79 room he told me I was wrong Hotels have made the mistake . The room smelt and it needed a good vacuum . The manager didn’t care as he said the hotel was up for sale . The walls were marked in the room . The whole place seemed very tired .

Lovely manager, very helpful , but hotel is tired and needs investment. Also we booked specifically to use a voucher for a cream tea, but found that due to a staffing error this was not available, so overnight stay and four-hour round trip were wasted.

Property is ancient and poorly maintained throughout. Crime ridden area and I could not leave the safety of the hotel’s security and cctv; there is nothing “quaint village” about it. Don’t let Wikipedia fool you this is no Market town. Its hell. The £75 rooms were sold out and the only two rooms left were the upgraded “superior” rooms at £120 each. One of the rooms smelt of mould so bad it was literally a health issue to stay there. Luckily they refunded the money for one of the rooms and my friend drive another 30 miles to another hotel! I was informed by staff the property was used as a homeless shelter during the pandemic in 2020 and, although nobel, it smelled like it. You just feel gross all over having stayed there and believe me it was out of necessity (last room in all of east anglia and it was late at night). I slept fully clothed lying there waiting for daylight.

We decided not to stay at the hotel after checking. I fully understand this is a very old hotel doesn’t warranty the piece. It’s needs a lot of work.

The whole hotel was a little grubby. Dirty encrusted carpet around the bed, the paint work was slightly shabby and gaining entry after 10pm was a chore. No hand soap in the bathroom which itself was damp and grubby. In short the whole place needs a spruce up and dragging in the 20th century.

Where do I begin. Amazing, lovely photos displayed on the website. Thought what a bargain. Upon arriving at the hotel, was greeted by reception which was not correctly signposted always a great start. I thought no this place has character lets see what it is about. Paid for the room then received the room key room 401 the hotel suite here we go! When we entered the room we noticed how the carpet had marks and the dust and bits were everywhere. I then proceeded to do a quick walk around the room to see how bad can first impressions be - maybe the dust is part of the hotel and what they sell to their customers on a full experience. The following is what I found in the next 3 mins all of which the gentleman at reception refuses to accept - but I have pictures my good sir! 1. The remains of a rolled-up cigarette by the window on the right-hand side of the bed. 2. a tubberware lid on the left-hand side of the dresser just sat there - wow the cleaners must have been having a lovely packed lunch in here! 3. A rusty screw on top of the bath - I just love rusty screws laying around 4. the bath side coming off the bath sticking out into the bathroom well that was interesting. 5. Oh and there was a toilet at the top of the stairs on your left - do not enter! DISGUSTING! An expereince to say the least! I'd rather sleep in the street. Do not buy the pictures it is disgusting oh and currently my refund is under review by the owner. Just shut it DOWN Go Crown Lodge Hotel!!!

The first room they went to put me in had been broken into and used, apparently by one of homeless people the hotel was being paid to accommodate. The room they put me in next was a normal room and not a suite(which is what I booked). The cleanliness of the room was absolutely discusting. The throw over the foot of the bed and the two throw pillows were dirty and stained, the floor hadn't been hovered in a long time and there was dirt all over the floor in both the bedroom and bathroom, the light switches for the lamps had about 10 years worth of dirt and grime on them, and the bathroom wasn't far off of looking like something out of horror movie with the toilet being stained and nasty and the whole thing being tarnished and run down. I seriously considered leaving and sleeping in my car but ended up sleeping fully clothed above the covers and leaving first thing in the morning. The only good thing about this place was the service, the guy at the front desk was very kind and friendly, and very apologetic when the first room turned out the way that it did.

Not the best.
Check in was very slow and not pleaseant. Staff read out a list of must do's & Don'ts which was a little bit too authoritarian. Advised that strictly no food or drink allowed in rooms, this is not a good service. Room booked advised there was a view - Rear of hotel brick wall and pitched roof. There were only 2 rooms taken as well !
