Visit Hamdeok Beach, a gorgeous stretch of white sand dotted with intriguing rock formations. Adorning the picturesque northern coastline of Jeju Island, the beach provides stunning views of Busan just across the water. Find a spot on the sand and watch the waves come in. Look for small crabs scurrying over the beach.
Enjoy a picnic on the beach, against the scenic backdrop of the sea and the island’s green coastline. For maximum comfort, rent an umbrella and deck chair on the sand.
Embark on a pleasant stroll along the trail marking the eastern end of the strand, where you’ll find a freshwater spring. It’s possible to enjoy the beach for most of the year. The weather remains somewhat mild in winter, although it is fairly rainy from June through September.
Lifeguards usually patrol the beach and cordon off a swimming area. Bring snorkeling equipment and go for a dip in the clear water to see the multicolored fish swimming around you. Notice how the beach seems to become larger at low tide, when you can spot more of the hidden crabs burrowing in their holes.
Use the bathroom facilities to wash off the sand as you leave the beach. Enjoy a meal at one of the many restaurants and cafés lining the rear of the strand. A range of hotels and resorts are located within a couple of blocks. Sleep beneath the stars in the camping area or at the RV park at the end of the beach.
Hamdeok Beach is in Hamdok-ri town, on the northern coast of the island of Jeju. Arrive at Jeju International Airport and take a bus from the city of Jeju-si to get here in about 40 minutes. Consider driving and leaving your car in one of the free street parking spaces. Explore the surrounding area for nearby attractions such as the Crown Country Club, Manjanggul Cave and Jungmun Beach.
