Beautiful setting fronting the beach.

Posted Aug 20, 2016
Pros: The location right in front of a beautiful beach and surrounded by tropical foliage.
Cons: Breakfast was very good but was the same each morning. Dinner at the hotel was limited to pizzas. A little variety would be helpful.
The accommodations were comfortable with a friendly staff. The dinner menu was limited to tasty pizzas but restaurants were plentiful in nearby Puerto Viejo. Taxi transportation was reliable and inexpensive that took us to the reefs at Manzanillo beach.

Instalaciones muy descuidadas

Posted Aug 8, 2016
Se nota que a este hotel no se le invierte dinero en instalaciones desde hace mucho tiempo pues hay áreas donde se observan partes sin pintura o descuidadas

Close to wrong part of beach

Posted Aug 4, 2015
This hotel is more for families or couples. It's more like camping. Internet is horrible. TV is nonexistent. No AC but at night it does seem to cool down. Positive part is its near a beach. Perfectly placed for you only as there is nobody else around. The town is a good 30 minute walk. Another positive is it is extremely quite if you want to relax. I must say that the staff was extremely friendly though.

Pros: Facilities are the same but much better every time.
Cons: Add Kitchen facilities to the Rooms, Frige.. and Microwave oven will be much convenient.
Location: Perla Megra is a Hotel right at the Beach, just walk a few feet and you are in the water. Also the Beach is very clean and convenient.
This Hotel has improve a lot. I have been there already 5 times in a row and the administration is improving from time to time. My last visit was not an exception. Clean, customer care improvements, facilities renewal, Good Job Perla Negra, Keep it Up.

the 7 plagues of La Perla Negra

Posted Jan 12, 2015
Pros: The location is the only thing going for this place
Cons: The feeling of filth, dirt and total lack of cleanliness permeates this entire property and makes it un restful, disgusting - lots to improve
Location: 15 to 20 minute walk from Puerto Viejo. Yoga retreat 2 doors down. Beach across the road. Access to tours & good @Banana Azul 200 yards down the road
I wish it were only 7 plagues. We are so upset that our family saved up for this vacation and trusted these owners with our hard earned money. It is beyond upsetting to feel so cheated out of a well deserved and much needed vacation. Our family feels completely robbed. 1) Photos of the bathrooms on Expedia are not what we saw or experienced - guest rooms have suicide showers, cracked tile, no moulding. 2) The other photos of this property are take from great distances - '50 foot looks good shot', but up close this place is worn out almost beyond repair, with critical items literally falling apart, or so worn and dirty you do not feel clean using them. Holes in sheets 3) Raw sewage - imagine waking up in the middle of Christmas night to the strong smell of raw sewage. We had sewage back up into two rooms 4) An infestation of bugs swarming throughout our daughters' room into their luggage, toothbrushes and personal items caused us to all sleep in one room together twice. 5) The staff takes over and uses the facilities, including the pool table in the lobby area, brings their friends and family in to take over the pavilion, pool beach, etc. 6) The owners have a standing agreement with the adjacent property, Joanna's Casitas, who's many many guests, take over the pool, pavilion, lounge chairs, kitchen area, tables, beach - there is no place for La Perla Negra paying guests to stay. La Perla Negra Guests pay extra to use BBQ 7) Breakfast buffet is laughable and sparse.

Nice staff but in need of updating

Posted Jan 7, 2015
The staff was very nice and helpful but the rooms needed updating. The bedding and curtains were in bad shape. The thing we struggled most with was that there were only two plugs in the room. Trying to charge phones and cameras plus use refrig and hair dryer was impossible.
