The hotel did not inform us that they had exterior renovations going on. The property inside was very dated and required a major revamp. The rooms were carpeted and could smell the staleness as the windows could not be opened as the was scafolding around the hotel and was also noisy as contractors were working the whole day. We had booked 4 rooms had paid extra to have the Executive Double Room, River View. This was not to be. We requested the hotel with early check out and left on the second day out of our 5 day total stay. This was only because we had to find another hotel to move into for the remaining nights.

Staff are amazing, rooms are large and clean. Water is hot and plenteous. The river view is amazing. Hotel is undergoing renovations, but it IS a historic hotel. It's to be expected, this is not a new, upscale hotel.

The room had a bath which was brilliant after completing the Great Glen Way. I was able to lie in it for an hour and relax. The bathroom was newly refurbished and lovely, though a new door would help. The meal in the bar was very good and the breakfast was great. The carpet was worn in the communal areas and wet around the morning drinks dispenser. The sound carries in from the hall to the bedroom so we were awakened by others going to bed in the wee hours. More sound proofing required for a comfy stay. All in all a good experience.

If you like brown this is the place to stay. The hotel has seen better days and was decidedly’tired’. On a positive note it was clean with huge comfortable bed in our river view room and served a decent breakfast. Staff were polite and friendly. Unfortunately there is no parking at the hotel which proved problematic for disabled guests.

10 out of 10 for our stay. You could not be more central to Inverness. Unfortunately they are renovating so the blue screening and scaffolding takes away from the look and the view but we understand. It is very reasonably priced also. Watch the hot water as it is very "HOT". Front desk were helpful. I would recommend

Reserved and paid premium for River View Suite -only to find on arrival there was scaffolding and safety netting covering entire front of guest rooms. Been that way for MANY months (prior to booking even) according to staff at restaurants next door. Don’t waste your $ until renovations are over.

nice hotel pleasant staff. Breakfast very tasty. owing to a slight walking difficulty found the final steps from the lift to the room a slight challenge. Nice large room comfortable bed and fully functioning bathroom. Lovely view of castle. Scaffolding outside hotel let overall impression down slightly.

The property has not been maintained well over the years. The doors and trim appear dirty and could use a good scrub and coat of paint. I specifically requested a room with a tub. It was a shower/tub combo. The shower curtain was filthy inside and out. I asked if it could be changed and there was no one available for that. Instead we wasted time moving our belongings to another room with shower only. Out of our two week stay in Scotland, this property was the worst. Broken lamp shade, broken TV stand, broken zippers on throw pillows. There are too many places to stay for this to be acceptable. Terrible, actually no service in bar. Waited 15 minutes to be served, my husband went to the bar and got menus for the waitress to say they were not serving food. Just all around a disappointing stay.

The only reason I’m giving this 4 stars is because we stayed in the Ness Suite which was an enormous and beautiful room with a castle and river view. The bathroom had been newly renovated and was gigantic even for American hotel standards. Fabulous room. They are fixing up the outside which is baggy needed since the front exterior is crumbling apart so we had scaffolding in front but we could still see our just fine. Again room was fantastic. Service at the front desk was non existent. The bar and restaurant was a ghost town. The breakfast didn’t look good so we found other places to eat. Lots of great restaurants and pubs in Inverness all within a few blocks of the hotel. Highly recommend eating at Cool Runnings a Jamaican restaurant! Delicious jerk chicken! Also enjoyed The Rendevous for breakfast, where the Beatles played in 1960 before they were famous. Did the city walking path through Ness Islands and up the Caledonian Canal. There are maps of it in the hotel. We also drove to Praddah Falls which was a nice hike through Caledonian forest, different scenery than Glencoe or Skye. Parking wasn’t too far. I think when they are done renovating it will be a fantastic hotel. Our suite was beautiful and we felt lucky to stay in it. The common areas were pretty run down. Great location in Inverness.

Scaffolding for repairs interrupted our river view. Bathtub with shower curtain not appealing. Fire doors everywhere in the building are heavy and spring loaded. Got tired of struggling with them. $281 pounds was too much to pay for this.

The location was perfectly central to everything in downtown Inverness but it wasn’t loud or crowded. I would stay in this place again when I come back to Inverness.
