Pros: the pool
Cons: the private pool wasnt so private at all-
"YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR" pretty much sums up our stay at the lagoon. No room service was a bummer, and also no cleaning lady.

Friendly and helpful staff. Hotel hygiene poor. Pool lagoons too small. Atmosphere very clinical.

Oaks Lagoon Port Douglas not quite up to scratch

Posted Aug 27, 2015 on Wotif
Pros: Pools were clean, BBQ's clean and working. The young women at the front desk were very helpful. Close to the beach.
Cons: Give rooms a face lift with a paint job/complete clean. Offer bicycles free with refundable security fee. Make sure all appliances work and free wifi
Location: Close to the beach just 5 minute walk. Wild Life Park, Croc Farm, snorkeling however you will need a hire car or your own vehicle
When I found the Oaks Lagoon on the Web it looked amazing and I decided to pay the extra amount to get a balcony swim out room. The resort seems a bit tired and is in need of some work to bring it back to some sparkle that appears on the Web. Our room while looked clean and tidy on first appearances was in fact not really clean. Allot of areas needed a good dusting and wipe down. Some furniture had large chips taken out it and that made it look quite shabby, other furniture was certainly very good and ideal for the room. There was a small entertainment system which we wanted to use our Ipod on, unfortunately I could not get it to work so I went to the front desk and let them know of the problem, they said they would send someone to come and take a look. The Manager did indeed turn up to have a look at it, he had a try at getting it to work but was unsuccessful, his response was, "oh well I cant get it to work either not much I can do". No offer to swap it over with another one which was disappointing. The Resort offered hire bicycles for $20 a day, what a shame the bikes were in very poor condition and hardly worth the money. The rooms were not serviced daily which was ok but any extra cleaning products needed had to paid for. The lagoon style pools were great and the BBQ area was very clean and worked well. The beach was located approximately 500 meters which was an easy 5 minute walk. A local shuttle bus provided access to the main shopping/hotels/resturants for $5 each way

Not impressed

Posted Aug 25, 2015 on Wotif
Pros: Location
Cons: Property needs serious work to eliminate the mildew issue
Location: Lots of near by activities but I was there to meet with a friend for dinner then left the next day. Had spent time in Port Douglas previously diving
The room was very musty smelling which became even worse when the AC was turned on. I wound up leaving the AC off and just dealing with the humidity rather than breathing in all the mildew. The lamp bases were both rusty as was the hanging shower holder. Property needs attention to keep it from going even further downhill. You don't expect to pay $175 a night to inhale mildew. I would have expected this type of room for less than $90 a night.

Amazing with a pool outside the door. Easy walk to the local restaurants and only a short drive to supermarket and shopping center.

quiet and comfy place to stay.

we stayed for three nights and really loved the place, especially the space and well equipped kitchen. Pool temperature was a little too cool despite the warm, sunny weather but we did most of our swimming at the reef. Beach was only a five minute walk away and the marina and shops, restaurants etc only five minutes drive.
