Smash and grab in the parking lot!
The facility was great. Staff were nice and attentive. Breakfast spread was notable. Fitness center really good and spacious. Unfortunately, our visit was overshadowed by what happened on the morning of April 5. At about 8 am on a beautiful, bright morning, our family of four was leaving to tour Santa Clara University. I took down my suitcase, my wife’s suitcase, and my backpack and loaded them in our rental car. I went back up to our room to get the kids’ stuff. Returned to the car ten minutes later to find the back window shattered and my backpack gone – with my laptop, kindle, tablet, headphones, and two pairs of glasses inside it. My wife took the girls to the SCU tour, and I stayed to report the theft. Hotel staff were very helpful, but also noted that people watch the side parking lot and steal from the cars. Another guest said they have devices that can detect electronics in the car. I’m sure there were signs saying “don’t leave valuables in cars”, but I’ve grown numb to those and I expect some amount of security at 8 in the morning in broad daylight. When the police came, which to their credit they did, I was right there when they asked hotel staff if there were cameras on that side (the west or southwest side) and staff reported that there were none there. So, the hotel knew these thefts were happening and hadn’t taken even the most basic steps to prevent them.
