Beautiful historic buildings feature in the village of Antimachia beside the airport and Venetian Castle, while the port town of Kardamaina provides stunning views of the sea.

Iraklides is an unofficial area in the center of Kos Island, where you’ll find plenty of family attractions and cultural highlights. Stunning coastline and scenic woodland make up the extensive terrain of this former municipality. Visit Iraklides to learn about the rich history of the area, while keeping the kids entertained in the water park.

Explore the quaint village of Antimachia. Step inside its House of Antimachia to see what typical homes looked like in the early 1900s. Beside the house stands the old-world Milos tou Papa windmill.

Head to the outskirts for the hilltop Antimachia Castle, also known as the Venetian Castle. Dating back to the 14th century, these ruins contain churches, cisterns and homes. Enjoy a picnic at this vantage point and check out the views of the sea and nearby islands.

West of Antimachia, find the Hippocrates Garden Cultural Center, which is a replica of a settlement from the 5th century B.C. See the amphitheater and the re-creation of an Ancient Greek house in this fascinating setting. Venture through the nearby Plaka Forest to see peacocks and turtles.

Bring your children to the Lido Waterpark in Mastichari. Rush down the slides and relax in the Jacuzzi.

Head out for a meal at one of the Greek and international restaurants surrounding the Kardamena Port and relax while you watch the boats bobbing in the water.

The Iraklides district is now part of the municipality of Kos, but its unofficial boundaries run between the Kefanos Peninsula and the district of Dikeos. Fly to Kos International Airport in the southwestern corner of Antimachia, which is a little west of the center of the island. Drive west from the town of Kos for 14 miles (23 kilometers) to travel here in less than 30 minutes.

With its castle, forest and port, Iraklides is an intriguing destination with varied appeal.
