"Attentive staff and a good sized swimming pool"

"I truly cannot express in words the genuine hospitality that Antonio and his family extended to us new Turista Americano. My wife and I that is. So, the next guest can have a unique experience as we did, I won’t reveal all and spoil it for you. However, it was our very first time in Scalea, Calabria as well as Italy. Although this is a VRBO our experience was not one of a business transaction. Antonio treated us as guest in his home and went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable for the 8 days we spent there. For those shy trying to communicate in Italian, he will make sure it's not a problem. If you want a true Neapolitan Margherita “pizza” in Scalea he can tell you the place. Beautiful historic sites, he can direct you to that too.Casa Marea – The apartment was exceptionally clean, also were the linens and towels. The washing machine perfecto! Both bathrooms functioned perfectly. Every appliance we felt we needed served our needs. The balcony view! That peaceful, serene view alone would have been enough if that’s all we had but of course it wasn’t. The support from Antonio and his family as well as the comfort of the apartment are worth much, much more than the small amount to rent it. Hopefully we were good guest as well! Thank you again, Antionio, Paola, and Fabrizio. This will not be our last visit to you. We will return. Your hospitably and guidance is one of the main highlights of our trip to Italy. "Such a wonderful hidden gem! A lovely little hotel with amazing views! The staff were wonderful. Dinner and breakfast were excellent! Wish we could have stayed longer! "

"The property is a big mansion with lots of rooms so it’s like a B&B style . The couple of the house were very great with me. The night that I came I was late. The man stayed up to open the gate for me to come in with my car. They cook the breakfast for me in their kitchen. The room was nice , had a pool and a nice view from up top of the mountains . "

"This hotel doesn't like guests! The staff were surly and unhelpful. Example 1: Swimming in the pool, being yelled at by the staff and told to get out - the rules say that you can't swim unless you are wearing a rubber skullcap (circa 1950) - both men and women! Not owning one of these means you can't swim, which was exactly what was happening - see the photo. The hotel was full, but no-one was swimming. I had to go to a local beach. Example 2: the 'fully stocked bar fridge' contained exactly 4 small bottles not what was listed. See photo. The notice said that putting anything else in the fridge would 'force' them to come up and charge you euros 5.20 and turn the fridge off. See photo. Example 3: Restaurant: couldn't get a booking before 9PM, and the first course didn't arrive until 10:15PM. The second course came about 2 minutes later, so had to be put somewhere warm, then they mislaid one of them, so one had to be eaten while they tracked down the other. Example 4: asking at breakfast (which, BTW, is not recommended) for a cup of hot milk, was given cold - I said I asked for warm, was told it WAS warm so I demonstrated it wasn't by putting my finger in it. Was told they couldn't do warm, so I pointed out the button that said warm milk, so she ungraciously deigned to press it. Example 5: the Bar is not open until mid-July. No coffee tea in room. There's lots more - but the bottom line: avoid this place. I was SOOO glad to leave."
