Expedia and Hotels.com have updated fall travel data in advance of the expected 17 million people hitting the road and taking to the skies.* As of Aug. 19, the Expedia app offered round-trip flight deals spotted for the long weekend (departing Aug. 30, returning Sept. 3).

Hotels.com reports that hotel rates are cooling off from the summer highs:1
- Salt Lake City (20%), Nashville (15%), and New Orleans (10%) are seeing the biggest drops in average nightly rates this Labor Day weekend compared to last year.
- West Coast and Midwest destinations such as Salt Lake City, Nashville, New Orleans, Los Angeles, San Diego and Las Vegas have experienced the largest year-over-year drops in average daily rates for Labor Day.
Chicago Tops the Charts for Labor Day Weekend
Hotels.com reports that Chicago is the top trending destination for Labor Day weekend, with searches up 20% year over year.1 Hotel demand is strong across the city, from downtown to neighborhood hotspots, thanks to a lineup of major events:
- Lionel Messi and Inter Miami’s game against Chicago Fire at Soldier Field
- Pearl Jam’s two-night concert event at Wrigley Field
- The Chicago Sky’s matchup against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever
- The North Coast Music Festival at SeatGeek Stadium
