Choose one or more items to build your trip:
With its hip cafés and live events, this foodie hub counts itself as one of the largest indoor markets in the Southern Hemisphere.

Visit Adelaide Central Market, a huge covered bazaar in an impressive redbrick building in the heart of the city. In addition to its trendy cafés and restaurants, the site is packed with everything from cheeses and baked goods to seafood and meat. Get a sense of the local culture by chatting with the vendors and fellow market-goers in this lively hub.

Arrive at the market and admire the tall redbrick tower that separates it from the rest of the city center. Notice the arched windows on the side, beneath which awnings stretch out and shelter various stores. Inside the building is a labyrinth of stalls showcasing all types of fresh produce. Pick out some of the enormous melons and choose from a rainbow of colors of apples in the fruit section.

Select from the variety of pastries and try the fresh fish. The different cafés and stalls here sell food from around the world as well as local produce. Purchase additional ingredients and products from the on-site supermarket. The market also hosts live events, including music concerts and family activities.

Consider the rich history of the market, which began operating in 1869. It initially opened on Tuesdays and Saturdays, but today it runs Tuesday through Sunday from morning until late afternoon. The market closes on certain public holidays and is only partially functional on Wednesdays.

Find the Adelaide Central Market on the western side of Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga, a park in the heart of Adelaide. It is surrounded by some of the main attractions in the city, such as the South Australian Museum, the Adelaide Pavilion and the Rundle Mall. Travel by tram to a nearby stop and walk a block or two to get here. You can also drive and leave your car in the parking spaces above the Market Precinct.
