Serene Taos Ski & Mountain Bike Retreat with Stunning Views — Upper Level

The serene Taos Ski and Mountain Bike home is a quiet 2 acre sanctuary with expansive views of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range to the edge of the Rio Grande river. The house is a split level duplex. Each level is fully private. You enter the upper property. You enter into the main room where Taos Mountain can be seen to your left while the Rio Hondo is 1 km in the distance. The Rio Hondo drains the melting snow from the Taos Ski Valley Resort located just 2O minutes up the road. Take in the views from the deck or sit back in the sofa with a warm fire in the wood stove. The master bedroom has a California King bed, full bath with subway tiles on two walls allowing for ample natural light into the space.

The oversized kitchen has all the amenities and utensils you need to cook a delicious meal, including a full set of pots and pans, cookware, dinnerware, flatware, serving ware, drink ware, and linens. Please help yourself to organic coffee, popcorn and pasta in the jars on the counter. You can choose to make coffee in three ways: pour over, an Italian Bialetti or a French press.

The wifi is strong and was trenched to the house so it would be as secure and consistent as possible. When working remotely, you will be able to download documents, stream movies, live events and Zoom.

Taos Ski Valley has been featured in Outside Magazine's 2023 list of Best Places to Visit in the U.S. for Adventure! "Aside from its reputation for driving change, the main reason skiers flock to this resort in northern New Mexico is for the uncrowded, low-key vibe. That and the quick hike to steep chutes off the West Basin, bird’s-eye views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains from atop 12,481-foot Kachina Peak, and the green-chile-stuffed breakfast burritos. . ." Outside Magazine.

Breathtaking Views and Great Base Camp for Exploring the Taos Area
For starters, the pictures are accurate. The house sits on a ridge overlooking the Arroyo Hondo valley, with stunning views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the east and south. On clear nights, the stargazing was fantastic. You have a lot of privacy there. While there are other houses close by on the road, but I don’t think we ever saw another person around during our five days there. The location was great for exploring the area. We enjoyed the hot spring resorts in Ojo Caliente and Jemez Springs (the latter is substantially farther though). There are a ton of hiking options nearby for almost any level of interest/ability. We had a great day hike along the Rio Grande Canyon. Restaurant choices were really good- especially for a relatively rural area. There were several great restaurants in Taos and the little towns on the way to Taos. Arroyo Seco- about 15 minutes away- has a couple of fancier, chef-driven type places. Overall, we were really pleased. The only drawback that comes to mind is that- like a lot of houses around there- it does not have AC. Of course, being in the high desert, nights were very cool and the days were relatively mild in late April.

Light snow began to fall on the my last night. Looking out through the windows at the powdery landscape, there was a peaceful silence that filled the air. A great getaway from the city.

Comfortable home with great views
This home is simple and comfortable. Its peaceful location and stellar views make it extra special. The host was extremely helpful, and his restaurant recommendations were spot-on. Note that during summer weather, the home can get stuffy and warm, especially towards late afternoon and evening (highs were in the 80s when I stayed there). Even with doors and windows open, there isn't much cross-ventilation, so plan to be out enjoying the mountains until the sun goes down, when the cool night breezes blow in.
