During our stay, we had a couple of personal business items I needed to address and the concierge at the desk, Roy (American translation), was very helpful. Our entire stay was made better by his kind and polite assistance.

Great place to stay
Great hotel in a lovely town. The staff are friendly. The room was large and comfortable. The decor was dated but everything works which is much better than decor. The breakfast was good, someone filling up all the time. Would recommend and stay again.

Sturdy out dated but very convenient Hotel.
This hotel has seen better days but it ticked all our boxes. It is well air conditioned. The shower works well. There is a small but adequate pool which we used a lot. The breakfast was quite good and when you consider the price, it was surprisingly good. The bed wasn’t the best bed I’ve slept in but by no means the worst. It was ok. There was a choice of pillows. It is near the centre and everything is very walkable. It doesn’t have much charm but you not have to go outside or on the expansive terrace to enjoy this amazing village.

Practical hotel in scenic Castelo de Vide
This hotel is situated on the edge of the beautiful little town of Castelo de Vide. Room are large with their own balcony. The bathrooms have not been done recently and some people might consider them a bit out of date. They do have a good size bath and a bidet. Breakfast is basic but considering what we paid, it is generous that it was included.

False advertising
We arrived late after a long drive.we booked a double but we were given a twin bed room.had to come to reception and change.we booked for 3 weeks but on the second day we realised no resturant i the hotel ,swimming pool was closed.we booked the hotel be ause on Hotels.com website it was advertised they have a resturant and bar and a swimming pool.we were dissappint when none of the services existed.it took us couple of days to find other hotel and we left after 4 days.contacyed hotel.com and explained about false advertising and asked for refund.still after 20 days and numerous phone calls no response fro. HOTEL.COM.very frustrated and unhappy with hotel.com customer service.nothing has been done.they keep say they take complaint very seroiusly but i am still waiting.

good location and breakfast
Very nice stay within walking distance to the main square, where the locals had their carnaval parade. We were also able to easily get to Marvão by car, besides of course the town's own beautiful medieval village. Breakfast was good too.

Perfect location and great value for money
The hotel was great value for money. Clean, easy parking, good access to the town, hearty breakfast and pleasant service. The decor was a 'faded charm', but we could not expected better for the price we paid.

Good location and simple.
Very well located, downtown. Check-in and check-out were quick. The hotel is not clean at all: doors, carpet, walls, doorknobs, room balconies, chairs, and tables, are all very dirty and smelly. Breakfast is simple and average. You can't ask for much.

Nice couple of days away
Breakfast was ok lovely bread ham cheese eggs and sausage, coffee was awful, but overall a good stay with great air con , the tv was tiny and very old, but that did not bother us. The pool is quite small but was ok. The only problem was no bar or restaurant, which would have been nice to have some drinks and snacks by the pool . Plenty of bars cafes etc very close by

Wonderful hotel
I've read a few reviews on here that find fault with this amazing hotel. I do wonder about some people's grip on reality at times. For the price (c€30 / £25 per night) this is an exceptionally good hotel! The staff are cheerful and helpful, the rooms are a generous size, with very comfy beds and withAircon. They are impeccably clean. The bathrooms are well equipped. The buffet breakfast, included in the price, has fresh, readily replenished options served in a beautifully appointed breakfast room overlooking the park. The swimming pool is kept in tip-top shape.

A wonderfull stay in a lovely village
The stay was wonderfull. The room was very confortable and quiet. The comodities were top and breakfast was awesome with a lot of choices. The swiming pool was good too! I think it would be good if the restaurant could open, but i know the pandemic constrains. A positive point is the parking near the entrance, since we can park our cars and go by walk to the restaurants in the village.

Best Hotel to discover Castelo de Vide.
Sol e Serra Htl enjoys an enviable location, 5 minutes walking to center with main attractions such as Cathedral, Medieval Castle and the Jewish Museum/Synagogue which tell all about the crucial role of Portuguese Jews, who were a rich component of Castelo de Vide life , being Garcia de Orta the greatest of them all. Famous Physician and botanists who first print in Europe an important book about Plants and medicinal herbs , gathered while in Portuguese India, Goa. The hotel lacks wi-fi in the rooms which is unbelievable these days.! TV’s are from the last century, very small , bad image and just a few channels ,they need to replace them urgently. The structure is phenomenal , beautiful Alentejo typical furniture needing some reforms. Large rooms and bathrooms. Doors also need reform. Management must improve above features! Still the best option in central Castelo de Vide.

Not a modern hotel, but blends with the village
The hotel is nothing fancy, but OK, with a good price/quality ratio. The biggest downside was the breakfast which, for me, I was expecting more options from the local offerings taht you can typically eat at breakfast.

An ok and affordable place near Marvão
The hotel is a bit outdated and could use some renovations. It is centrally located near the heart of Castelo de Vide, close to everything in the village. They serve a decent buffet breakfast. It was ideal for an affordable 1 night stay, on our way to Marvão.

Excellent value in the portuese countryside!
The hotel is located in a small village of 3400 in the heart of the Alentajo. Absolutely charming! The hotel is what I would expect in a small village. It has everything thing one needs; rooms are large enough, the airconditioning works well, it is clean, quiet and the pool beautiful and the breakfast is light but sufficient. Most rooms are equipped with a terrace or patio and the hotel has parking. Best of all the hotel is right in town. You can walk everywhere in the village. A few negatives(depending on your perspective);In 2017 WiFi was available, though weak, in the rooms. The hotel apparently got a new router in 2018 and now it is only available in the lobby. The other is that the hotel is not modern....much more old fashioned. If you are looking for a Hyatt, then avoid this hotel. If you are looking for a good accomadation at fair price in the Portuguese countryside then I can recommend 100% the Sol e Serra. This was my third time staying at this hotel and I will stay there again in 2019!

No wifi in the room it's a big no-no. Overall a very nice stay apart from the quality of some items at breakfast, specifically the sausages,but the lack of wifi in the room is what makes me say that I will not stay here again.

The hotel has a very nice central location. It is not a new hotel which shows, but taken this into consideration the rooms are fine, bathroom acceptable. TV is old fashioned and tiny - but you dont come here to watch TV. No WIFI in the room. Only in reception. Balcony to every room which is nice. At the time of our visit the exterior of the hotel was being renovated - hence scaffolding in front of the building. Overall good value for money.

The hotel is a bit dated, but the service was friendly, and the hotel had everything you could need. The location is right in the center....you walk everywhere. The pool is beautiful. In my opinion, given the rustic off the beaten tourist path, it was perfect.

Attractive price but minimalist hotel
This hotel is minimalist. While rooms are spacious and have balconies, not all balcony doors close or lock. Guests are allowed to smoke on balconies, which can fill a higher room with cigarette smoke if balcony door is open. The top floor of the hotel was roped off; appears to have flood damage. Breakfast is mostly continental choices. Wifi is only available in the lobby and can be slow. Neither I nor my family member found the staff particularly helpful or friendly. The location is excellent; walking distance to the castle and restaurants and the price is attractive.

Good value, but very Spartan!
Taking into account that what I paid for one night stay and breakfast is what some sleek city properties charge for hotel parking, this was a rock bottom bargain. Last time I got such deal was a few years back in Bangkok when I decided to stay at The Atlanta for the neighborhood experience, without knowing the bargain also included some bed bugs. No need to worry about cleanliness at this hotel. The entire property is spotless, including the rooms. However, I´m sure this hotel has known better days and rooms lacks the comfort of newer properties in the area. My biggest concern was not having a functioning heating system to make the room more comfortable. The rooms are small, and having a old 15" tv is also a bit disappointing when you feel like relaxing before retiring. On the plus side, the hotel location is close to every major point of interest in town and an excellent base explore the vicinity. This was an excellent value for a stopover in this region of Alto Alentejo, but I would probably choose a different property for longer stays or when traveling with kids. Good value if you don´t mind missing out on hotel facilities.

Beautiful view over the valley and gardens from the balcony of a centrally located hotel. A full buffet breakfast in a very nice dining room and plenty of parking. Of course, the whole town is very quiet at this time of year. Staff were very helpful.

Ideal location to relax
Hotel is very basic but adequate for rating and good value for money. It's fairly clean though wouldn't call it spotless. Breakfast was somewhat disappointing even considering there was plenty but just "continental". Would recommend to anyone who's not looking for luxury merely a clean place to sleep at a reasonable price.
