“Great location, pleasant stay”
The hotel is in a terrific location a couple of blocks from Grant Park/Millennium Park, several CTA stops, Michigan Avenue, and the Chicago Theater. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful, especially the concierges who were quick with advice and recommendations. The building itself is architecturally interesting - being among Chicago's first skyscrapers - and has some lovely ironwork inside. Once inside, it does feel a little small, but this was fine with us. Our room was spotlessly clean. It wasn't particularly large, but we really don't need a lot of space. Note that as a boutique style hotel, you won't find the amenities of a larger hotel (e.g., swimming pool, large exercise room, etc.). We do wish the bar stayed open later - it closes at 11 on the weekends. After walking the Loop for hours in the high heat, feeling completely exhausted, and in serious need of refreshment and a comfy seat, we were annoyed to be relegated to the bar for drinks and snacks in the mid afternoon. We hoped to sit and relax in the plush dining room chairs but were refused. If it's 3 p.m., the place is wide open and you've got a waitress on duty, what's the harm? It seemed like a little request that would have made us so happy at the time. Yet, this was a minor irritation and overall we enjoyed our stay.
“Best ever”
We will never stay anywhere else when we go to Chicago. From the moment we stepped through the door we were treated with kindness and professionalism.
“Old Time Movie Set”
Our room and the whole Burnham experience made us feel we were in the 1920's. Down to every last detail, including the wrought iron on the elevators and the animal print robes in the closet, the experience was unique in this every-hotel-looks-the-same world. We would recommend it for a romantic getaway.
“Great Hotel!”
Beautiful hotel in great location. The staff were very friendly and accomodating.
“A Fine Romantic stop”
My wife and I stayed at the Burnham for our anniversary. The staff was extremely courteous and respectful, but I expected that from a hotel in this price range. The rooms were very nice, but a tad small. When we returned from dinner, the beds were turned down, and they had soft music playing. It was a real hit and I was an automatic hero. The breakfast we had was expensive, but very good (don't forget to order something to take advantage of their excellent homemade Jam). Pricey, but worth it.
“Love Chicago”
This is second time we stayed at the Hotel Burnham. Will always stay there if we can. First time was for 25th Wedding Anniversary. Took our 23 and 20 year old kids back and we have a great time. Within 2 miles of holtel is everything to keep a couple or family busy for a week.
“Great location and wonderful ambiance”
A truly special place to stay -- I will definitely go back! Just walking into the hotel is a pleasure. The public spaces (hallways and staircases as well as the lobby and restaurant) have been beautifully restored to turn-of-the-century elegance. The room, while small, boasted a large window, lovely as well as comfortable furnishings, and (a touch I really appreciated) a separate trash can for recycling. The staff were uniformly friendly and helpful. I also enjoyed being just a couple of blocks away from Millennium Park and other Loop attractions. Just one drawback, temporarily: there is a huge construction site across the street, and the work goes on around the clock.
“A Great Loop Hotel”
The Burnham is in a completely renovated historic bank building. Lots of architectural detail, especially on the upper floors. It is a Kimpton Hotel which means it's heavy on customer service, with details like The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal waiting for guests in the lobby each morning along with a hot cup of coffee. There's a wine service every afternoon, also in the lobby which is small but very comfortable. The hotel boasts a good restaurant, a small but adequate workout room, wonderful linens, plush robes, simply great service from a very friendly staff. And you can't beat the location, inside the Loop at the corner of Washington and State, two blocks to the Art Institute, around the corner from downtown theaters ('Jersey Boys' was playing when we were there), a short block from the Joffrey Ballet headquarters.
“Our favorite in Chicago”
We visit Chicago several times a year and try to stay at a different hotel each time. The Burnham is our favorite thus far. Good location especially for proximity to theaters. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The on site restaurant is excellent but the bar is small. We will definitely go back.
“You'll love this hotel!”
Perfect experience! BEAUTIFUL, elegant, welcoming, quiet. Comfy beds, nice size room (we had the deluxe 2 beds), they have everything you need and a Walgreens right next door! Location was fabulous--we easily walked to the Mag Mile, Millenium Park, and river. Walk out the door and shop, the wine reception was awesome, Starbucks coffee each morning, super-friendly and helpful staff. Loved the downtown "loop" area. We both loved the hotel and would stay there again! Got a great rate from Expedia--this is every bit a 4-5 star boutique hotel and!
