“Very good choice”
The Montenotte is a very nice hotel around 15 minutes' walk from Cork city centre - it's uphill most of the way back, so you may want to consider taking a bus (nos. 7 and 8 stop nearby) or a taxi if you have a lot of shopping, or are just unfit. The location means it's fairly quiet, and it feels secure. There's adequate parking space. Our room was very good; spotlessly clean with a comfortable bed, decent bathroom, and the other features you might expect, like tea/coffee facilities, iron and ironing board, hairdryer etc. It was possible to have the room as cool as we wanted, especially at night - seldom possible in hotels. WiFi access was straightforward, with a strong signal and fast connection; it wasn't especially cheap, but there were flexible pricing options such as 100 minutes that you could use anytime. The staff were all great: helpful, efficient and charming, but never intrusive when you wanted to be left in peace. Our only minor criticisms: (a) a clock/radio would have been nice; there was no clock visible on the TV, or wake-up option on it, and it didn't have any radio channels either (b) when we arrived at 9:45 pm, there was no food available from the restaurant or bar (except one packet of crisps that the lovely lady staffing the bar managed to find us), and the only room-service option was sandwiches. For a hotel of its size, we'd expect a little more choice, at least up to say 11 pm.
