Our Christmas gift to our grown kids was a week at VML, 7 adults and 2 dogs. We loved the area and the seclusion. It’s a short drive into Hot Springs for a quick break and an hour from Asheville, which was a fantastic day trip. The cabin is very well stocked and equipped. It's rustic, but not too much so. The property is beautiful, and the drive up to Viking Mountain Overlook is a must.
The negatives reflect other recent reviews. There are close neighbors with dogs (3-4 of them) that barked most of the time, whether we were outside or not, day and night. We cooked hot dogs at the fire pit and two of them were there trying to get food from us. We didn’t take our dogs out with us because of this. We were never afraid as they were very friendly, but others might be intimidated.
The cleanliness was also a bit of an issue. There was a noticeable odor in the living room carpet, especially when sitting on the floor and the downstairs bath had a disposable razor and used bar of soap left in it. Otherwise, it was clean.
All in all, we enjoyed the cabin. We realize the neighbor dogs are out of the owner’s control but wanted to make others aware in case they aren’t dog people.
