Mark, we’re sorry you had issues with the heaters. Operating instructions are included in the welcome book on the coffee table in the living room for those unfamiliar with using gas wall heaters. The most efficient way to heat the cabin by far though, is to use the wood stove. There is wood provided in the wood shed. The cabin is rustic, as indicated in the listing, with no internet or cell service. Most of our guest prefer it this way!

Tonia, we are happy that you and your family had a good time and that you found the property to be as beautiful as we do! That said, we are very disappointed in the condition the house was left in prior to your stay, and will reach out to you for more specific details and about a partial refund. You should not have to be cleaning anything in the cabin during your vacation. We’re so sorry that we did not meet your expectations, or ours. In order to address your concerns for future guests, we will take the following actions: First, we have blocked out the first available section of time on the calendar for a several day, deep clean of the cabin. Including steam cleaning all of the carpets and rugs. Second, we have our repair man scheduled to come out during that same time to evaluate the refrigerator. It will be fixed or replaced, as needed. Third, we have ordered four oscillating pedestal fans, one for each bedroom, that, along with the ceiling fans, will help circulate air while guests are sleeping. We hope that these measures will not only make for a more enjoyable vacation for our future guests, but also show our commitment to the best experience possible. Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review! We appreciate all of the feedback, both positive and negative. Unfortunately, the microwave broke during the stay prior to yours and we were made aware of it the day they checked out, which was the same day your group checked in. We immediately ordered a replacement and installed it once it came in, unfortunately again, the day your group checked out. We try very hard to keep an eye on the propane tanks to make sure that there is fuel for the gas grill, but sometimes it does get missed and we apologize for that. For our future guests, the grill also has a charcoal side and an offset fire box for wood. As for the wonky floor, we’ve been in contact with a structural remediation company about adding steel beams and jacking the floor up to level everything out, but we haven’t made a determination yet when we can tackle this issue. It is a monumental expense as you can imagine. For now, I would just ask for your patience and for you to embrace the rustic old log cabin feel! And of course, be careful if you’re on crutches! The strange odor is something new we will have to investigate and rectify. I will have our caretaker look into that right away. The board games… ah, the board games! People love them, they just don’t like to put them away! Every year during Thanksgiving, myself, my wife, my sister and my 4 nieces and nephews go through all of the board games and try to put everything back in the right boxes, throw out games that are missing pieces, and we buy replacement games. It sounds like this is something we may have to start doing twice a year! Thanks for the heads up! We really are glad y’all had a good time despite the weather and look forward to having you back!

We are so sorry that your experience at Viking Mountain Lodge didn’t live up to your expectations. We pride ourselves on our communication with our guests and the plethora of things to do and see around the cabin. Typically, that would mean including a digital copy of the Welcome Book in an email before arrival which contains a list of all of the fun things to see and do around the area with maps and directions inside. Apparently, that was not sent in your case and I apologize for that, as well as for our lapse in communication. We would like to make it up to you in some way, so we will be in contact shortly.
