Electricity went out and car was ransacked

Posted Jun 2, 2014
In the middle of the night all of the electricity went out in the hotel. Someone started banging on the walls and there was a beeping sound that lasted quite a while. After that was fixed we wake up in the morning to find out car had been broken into. Probably wouldn't stay there again.

Good economy hotel

Posted May 8, 2014
Pros: Comfortable, and value priced.
Cons: Nothing. This hotel is fine for the price.
This is an older hotel property, but it is a good value for those just looking for a comfortable place to stay.

My three days in the basement.

Posted May 6, 2014
Pros: nothing
Cons: Demo start again.
Location: In town for a match in Il. closer than match hotel in Quincy. Drakes has good food but the worst service I have ever experienced.
Hotel is dated . Would have been ok for me when I was 20, at 42 I see it for what it is a run down hostel. Staff is half asleep. Stay a little farther west of town (did this last year) nicer hotels for about the same rate. 1st floor is below grade (basement) .

Super 8 rollercoaster

Posted Mar 10, 2014
Pros: Beds were comfortable
Cons: Spruce the place up and improve breakfast
We have stayed in Super 8's all over the place. Some really nice, others, I wouldn't send anyone too. This one was ok. No, mice, pubic hair, or crack pipes in this one, but still, just ok. Even compared to other Super 8's this one's breakfast was disappointing.

Awkward set up.

Posted Mar 1, 2014
Pros: The linens were acceptable, and the staff was friendly.
Cons: Replace the patched carpet, designate a breakfast room.
Location: Mark Twain sites.
The staff was friendly and helpful. The linens were good and acceptable Most Super 8's have upgraded tremendously, but this was a huge disappointment. Hotel sits on the hillside, parking is not convenient, once in the lobby you either have to go up half a flight of steps to rooms, or down into a partial basement. The room had patches where parts of the carpet had been replaced, and being on the lower level the window was even with the ground outside....like sleeping in the basement. Breakfast, which I skipped, was served in a hallway as there was no room for the purpose. I have spent approximately 70 nights in hotels in the last 2 years...this one's condition was one of the most disappointing.

Interesting driveway!

Posted Feb 15, 2014
Pros: The staff were excellent and the coffee was great.
Cons: Maybe a few more choices at breakfast would be nice.
Location: It's Hannibal. Go downtown. Watch the river. Go to the cave. (It's my hometown - I'm biased!!)
It was ka-zillion degrees below freezing. Hannibal had been getting dumped on with snow and ice. There was no salt left for private parking lots. People all over town complained about breaking up the inches of ice on their sidewalks. The parking lot was ice covered at WALMART - for heaven's sake. How could you expect a moderate hotel perched on the side of a hill to handle that? I kicked in the 4WD and floored it up the driveway's hairpin turn. Once up the hill the parking had been shrunken by the mounds of plowed snow. The staff were very helpful suggesting I come at the drive from the other direction which helped but making it across the lot was still interesting. All these are things the staff could do nothing about. The staff remained friendly and helpful and the room was clean a tidy. This is a 'split level' hotel - you come in on the 2nd floor. There are handicapped equipped rooms but the rest require from a few to 15 steps to navigate. You just need to plan your trips to the car! I look forward to being there in warmer weather as the pool looks great. Again, nice hotel for the money.
