Worst hotel experience in 72 years

Posted Jun 24, 2014
Pros: Absolutely nothing. The hotel clerk who offered advice to get a prepaid card was excellent; but she could say nothing until I happened into the lobby
Cons: Remove the managerial staff
Location: You are kidding
I arrived with your email notice that I had a room reserved in my name. I am 72 years old and had traveled 4 hours by train to an unfamiliar city. I was refused check in because I did not have an available credit card. I offered to pay in cash; to put up cash as a security deposit, all to no avail. When I showed your email confirmation which showed no requirement for a credit card, I was ignored. When I offered to leave cash as security I was ignored. I called the cab driver who brought me from the train station who told me that the city was full: a concert, a conference, and, a soccer game. So, I thought they wanted my room. After an hour of them telling me that they could not help me: a 72 year old, 4 hours by train from home; one of the desk clerks said "why don't you get a prepaid amex card" I asked why didn't they tell me that an hour ago. She could not answer. I got the card and checked in. In all my years, this was the worst experience of my life. The manager and his staff have no business dealing with the public. How can you recommend this hotel?

Last choice and little scary for a single woman

Cons: Staff that cares about the guest and knows what is where. Fix the broken machines. Make the hotel feel safe.
Location: It is right off of the highway on a very industrial looking street.
I booked the room last minute never having been to Hartford and not knowing what was where. The person who checked me in could have cared less about my comfort nor did she seem to be able to direct me to the location of my room (she sent me to the wrong side of the building). The vending machines on two floors were out of service. There were work men walking up and down the halls at all hours. Inexplicably, there were two large televisions within two feet of each other in the room. I suppose this was supposed to justify the price? It was just a creepy place.

We wish that all the hotels we have stayed had been like yours. We shall be looking out for Holiday Inn Express hotels when we come back in 2016 for the Kentucky Derby is on.

All the staff were very friendly, offered a nice breakfast and 24 hour access to coffee. Also had a nice gym which I took advantage of, but the best part was the complimentary shuttle that takes you anywhere you need to go within 10 miles of the hotel. This was a wonderful perk that I used every morning and evening during my 4 night stay. So easy, just called the front desk, went downstairs and within minutes I was on my way. Had several different drivers and each one was very friendly.
