Excellent locationPosted Aug 19, 2014
Inn is an older facility but perfectly acceptable to us. House was one of early ones built on a hilltop overlooking hilo bay. Very accessible to everything. Rooms are large with a lot of charm. No air conditioning but a breeze was always blowing so it was pleasant for sleeping.

comfy and laid backPosted Jul 21, 2014
Pros: The owners, father and son, were very personable and friendly. The location was perfect. The atmosphere was home-like.
Cons: The owners could improve attention to supplies in the room over time - coffee, shampoo, soap.
Location: Close to downtown Hilo - Lyman Museum, Tsunami Museum, Hilo Bay, shopping, plenty of good restaurants, grocery stores, laundromat, and more.
My wife and I stayed at the Hilltop Legacy eight nights. It was recently remodeled, comfortable, clean, and laid back. This is a home with four rental suites, each with its own bathroom. There are common areas for outdoor dining, a pool table (which we used), and beautiful grounds. The site overlooks Hilo and it sits in a beautiful neighborhood. People comfortable with walking can stroll into downtown Hilo. It's a short but strenuous uphill to get back but good exercise.

Nice view in HiloPosted Jun 30, 2014
Pros: The grounds were beautiful and well groomed.
Cons: As mentioned above, the house is somewhat in disrepair and needs quite a bit of work.
Location: We used the house as a base to go up to Mauna Kea for the stargazing program. Also to drive north along the coast to the Waipio Valley. Nice drive.
The house was an interesting old house on a hill. It clearly had been a pretty fancy place at one time but was suffering from age and neglect. It was sort of like a B&B, but there was no breakfast, just a room. It was clean and the grounds were truly beautiful and well groomed.

A wonderful surprisePosted Jun 14, 2014
Pros: The fact that it isn't a hotel. It is a home, a quiet oasis at the top of a hill.
Cons: A huge bonus would be if they offered a continental breakfast.
Location: Visit Rainbow Falls. It is just a few blocks away from the house. Old Hilo is just down the hill. Walk through the Japanese garden alongside Hilo Bay.
If you want serenity, this is the place. The house is on the top of the hill overlooking Hilo. There are only 4 rooms for rent. We knew other people were staying there but we never heard anyone. The room was clean & the bathroom had been recently updated. We will definitely stay here again.

Hilltop stay 2014Posted Jun 11, 2014
Pros: Convenient location and beautiful grounds
Cons: Add a decent size coffee mug that can go in microwave. Basic silverware and two bowls
Location: Only 45 minute drive to volcanos.
Great view of the town of Hilo, comfortable bed and also had an outside Lanai. At night it was like being in the jungle. Had to wear earplugs first night but got use to frogs and crickets for rest of stay. Walls a little thin but luckily we had quiet neighbors. Overall enjoyed our stay.

Centrally located in HiloPosted May 13, 2014 on Hotels.com
Location is not far from downtown Hilo. Coqui frogs are very loud at night. Rate was average. No telephone in room. Someone met us to give us our room key & also the key to the front door of the house.

Great Bay View, close to must-see sightsPosted May 8, 2014 on Hotels.com
I liked the "homey" atmosphere and breathtaking view. Friendly owner and friendly cat "Snowball." The room was simply furnished, but comfortable and had most of the amenities I needed - hairdryer, TV, radio/alarm clock, microwave, small refrigerator and coffeemaker. It would have been nice to have a mirror in the bedroom, as the lighting in the small restroom was not good for putting on makeup. The first night it took some getting used to hearing the noisy frogs! But I didn't want to shut the windows because I enjoyed the breeze. As the nights went by, I got used to the frogs croaking and they became less noticeable. It never interfered with my sleeping. Just for the Hilo Bay view and the convenience to local must-see places, by car and foot, I would recommend this place and stay again. Good price for the money.
