Ok not worth $159/nightPosted May 20, 2015
Convenient and great view of the water and downtown if you get the Legacy Suite. Otherwise they don't clean the room even when you ask, towels are really gross, bathroom is super questionable and if you need anything there is no one there. Not worth the money.

Disappointed...near impossible to sleep!Posted Apr 24, 2015
Pros: Location - its close to downtown.
Stayed one night in Room 2; room was dingy, small and congested. Still of the night broken by loud, annoying and incessant noises of night critters and frogs...getting any sleep was near impossible. Owner provided an upright fan (house has no AC); mistakenly plugged the fan in to get some air, and realized vents were clogged with dust about 2mm thick. Fan therefore was useless. Bed sheet was not tucked in around the corners and full of creases; appeared they simply used the bed sheet used by previous guest and covered it up with the blanket. No breakfast available. You will need a car to get up to this place, unless you're in great shape to tackle the very steep hill. Owner's son was pleasant enough, but not much around to talk to, or make recommendations on restaurants and touristy things to do. Will not return!

Watching sunrise from the bedPosted Apr 3, 2015
Perfect staff, beautiful room, kind people and first of all a amazing view from the hill down to the harbor. Sunrise directly watching from the bed when awakening is just an experience I will never forget. Excellent stay.

You're not getting what you think...Posted Feb 15, 2015 on Hotels.com
More of a hostel feel.....room was clean but it's not what you think you are getting. Bed I swear was just the box spring. Good for the price and we only stayed 1 night. I wouldn't been able to stay another though.

Nothing in Sight.Posted Jan 26, 2015
Pros: Coffee-making facilities in the room. Err, that's it.
Cons: Just about everything.
Location: As above, absolutely nothing nearby other than private houses.
Well out of Hilo. Absolutely nothing in walking distance. Bathroom was very second-rate indeed, cramped with poor toiletry provision, [cheap bars of soap etc]. Bed late being made up. Really not much to commend it other than it was in Hawaii.

Pleasant hotel and surroundings and close to town.Posted Jan 21, 2015
Cons: Its an obvious, work in progress, but it works for us. Not the "bells & whistles" of a 4 or 5 star facility, but the location and semi isolation a +.
Location: You overlook most of downtown Hilo and its coastal waters. A seasoned walker would probably walk to town.
It fulfilled our needs. In the Legacy Suite you get the open balconey, which was a plus for us.

Not enough pillows. Bathroom modernized but both shower heads not useable. No onsite manager. No complimentary water. Beautiful zen garden. Quiet.

a hard night's sleepPosted Jan 4, 2015 on Hotels.com
Homey and clean. Very small room. Nice people. Bed was hard as a box spring. In fact, it WAS a box spring! Ouch.

Advertised as a hotel but it's really a hostel.Posted Dec 27, 2014 on Hotels.com
Hotels.com calls this a hotel when in fact, it's a hostel. The room was tiny and that's fine, because we needed one night near the Hilo Airport. Had we planned a vacation here it would have been tough. We were tripping over luggage. There was no staff there when we checked in and we didn't get a response to a text we sent asking where we could print boarding passes for the next morning. The place is old so I can forgive the smell but the price should really be lower; more in line with what you'd pay for a hostel. The bathroom was old with peeling paint on the ceiling and thick dust on the walls. Sleeping was tough as the frogs make a racket outside all night and the place isn't soundproof. It's at the end of a street in a residential neighborhood so nothing is walking distance. I'd recommend staying elsewhere unless an overpriced hostel is what you're looking for.
