The Rainbow Loft felt like a lovely combination of straightforward / modern decor with just a few very intentional highlights around the rainbow theme. Not distracting or "trying too hard", I appreciated the very functional approach. Perfect for a two or three day stay, with a longer stay we might have felt a little something missing, but we were out and about so much the place suited us perfectly.
A few items of note:
1) there is no washer/dryer, despite the listing. We had planned on doing laundry during the stay there so it threw off our plans a little - not the end of the world, but be advised: no washer/dryer in the place.
* * On this note, I messaged the property manager and got no response. I get it: can't do anything about it so ultimately who cares, but still. So, again, be advised: no washer/dryer.
2) The driveway has a very sharp hill - the van we rented scraped EVERY TIME until I mastered approaching the entrance far off to the side, mounting the curb, to avoid "belly scratching" the minivan.
3) The neighborhood is not a tourist spot. Hilo itself isn't "postcard Hawaii", for that matter. Not to the point of feeling threatened or completely unsafe, but it's definitely not a resort feel.
Despite those few little gotchas, the rainbow loft was a lovely place to stay: clean, right in town, and cozy. We're glad to have stayed there during our Hawaiian adventure!
