"When one drives up first impressions are "oh dear". But keeping an open mind it's a gem of a hotel. The building is ex military on a very exposed elevated position. Cottage room are very nice with own fire plce and comfy bed but smells old and damp would be nice to have some better ventilation there. Same as swimming pool and jacuzzi nice pool but very shallow, once you in jacuzzi is hard to breathe due to chlorine and bad ventilation. Pet friendly but if you with a pet you have only option to stay in the cottage...

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, Penny our host could not do enough for us. It was bed and breakfast and ‘WOW’ what a breakfast, so much choice and very filling. The hotel was very clean and comfortable, your room was cleaned as soon as you left. Nothing was to much trouble for Penny and she always had a smile on her face. Just for your information, anyone thinking of booking, you have to negotiate stairs, to get to all but one of the bedrooms."

Perfect guest house
"The breakfasts were amazing, Karl and Jocelyn were delightful, and the room was furnished with understated good taste. Lots of little touches - gorgeous sandalwood soap, Tunnoch's milk chocolate caramel wafers, lovely solid waterglasses, comfy sofa, thick pile carpet - and it's all unbelievably clean. (We used to run a guest house ourselves and know clean when we see it.) Oh, and there's a fabulous dog. The guest house is perfectly located, especially if you're planning a visit to the splendid Dorset Museum and Art Gallery. We don't often leave reviews but Westwood House is exemplary."
