Don't limit yourself to Liaocheng; the wider region has been blessed with a treasure trove natural and cultural attractions which await the savvy traveler.
Jinan, is another good place to discover. It is approximately 65 miles (105 kilometers) from Liaocheng and offers a wide range of things to see and do, for example Daming Lake, Daming Hu and Lingyan Temple. Shandong Stadium, Quancheng Square and Shandong Normal University are some more points of interest here that should be high on every traveler's list.
This region is well known for its many old towns; these are fascinating reminders of the area's rich history.
Make the most of the knowledge of the locals and take one of the city walking tours. Get outdoors and get active in the area around Liaocheng. Try your hand at rock climbing or give mountain climbing a go.
It doesn't matter whether you are following the most popular trail or taking the path less trodden, understanding a variety of Mandarin phrases will make your travels smoother and more enjoyable. "Nǐ yào bú yào gēn wǒ tiàowǔ" translates to "Would you like todance with me?" You'll find that knowing how to say "Zhèiwèi xiānsheng huì qīngdān", which means "This gentleman/lady will pay for everything", can be very handy.
You'll never want to bid "Zàijiàn" (farewell) to this unique area.
