“beware of stairs”
We did not realize the hotel did not have an elevator. Our room was on the 4th floor. Lifting bags without an elevator was quite a chore. The room's bathroom was a closet converted to a bathroom with the sliding door still intact. We could not regulate the hot water and scalded ourselves. Also, the safe would not work properly and we had to get the master key to open it.
“Very Comfortable Stay”
The room was very comfortable, much like staying in a family guest room rather than a hotel room. Very comfortable bed and quiet, easy to sleep (and to sleep in late). Rooms have ample coffee, tea, mini fridge. Nice TV with good BBC channels. Okay breakfast included. Overall, very nice stress-free stay. Only down side was a bit of a hike to the tube station, especially with luggage. But Picadilly Line goes straight to Heathrow and St. Pancrass. Also, beware that the hotel does not have a lift (the stairs will give you a workout if you are on the top floor) but I personally did not mind.
“I'll be back”
Room was larger than expected and a queen size bed was welcomed! WIFI worked well and breakfast was enjoyable with very friendly staff. Room was extremely clean - although bathroom could use a good caulking job! A very good value and I will return here next time on my trip back to London! It has a micro bathroom - but managed to get things done. It is London - so can't compare to USA hotels. A good place to stay and I would recommend it.
“My new "go-to" hotel in London”
The Staunton was very pleasant, comfortable, clean, secure, and restful. The shower was great! Not too far a walk from Tottenham Court and Russell Square tube stations. Good central location and practically on the door stop of the British Musuem. Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was tasty. Plenty of local eateries in the area. I will use this hotel again.
“tiny but very comfortable”
If you need elevators or are attached to large amounts of space, do not stay here. Otherwise, it's a dream, and inexpensive for the quality. The service is top-notch, including delicious breakfasts and help printing boarding passes if you're flying out. The stairs to the rooms are narrow and steep, but the reward is a beautifully decorated, comfortable little room in the middle of London. We had bought Oyster passes for the tube, but ended up not using them except to get to Heathrow. We were able to walk to Covent Garden, to St. Martin-in-the-Fields, to see Phantom, etc., etc. The entrance to the British Museum was about two blocks away, which is more than it appears on the map but still very close.
“Great location, decent value”
The superb location of this small hotel (about 12 rooms) fully justified our choice. First the pluses: small Georgian mansion located in Bloomsbury, right next to the picturesque Bedford square, without crowds and hubbub inherent to any large or chain hotel, ideal location not only for your theater attractions but for every major Central London destination, even when walking. Clean rooms with a hint - though vague - of a boutique hotel, along with affordable (for Central London) value. The bed was really wide and comfortable. As one of the previous reviewers noted, the rooms are sound-proof as far as room-to-room sound insulation is concerned. We booked it through Expedia and got a pretty decent per night rate. Some reviewers complained about the room size but from our previous experience it's rather normal for Central London. Now the downsides: if you have more than a carry-on luggage it's going to be really cumbersome to drag your bags up the really narrow stairs. The front desk/concierge services looked pretty much disinterested in the hotel guests. The bathroom lacked above the mirror lighting which made the shaving or make-up close to impossible. Our windows faced Gower street, and though our room was on the second floor, the pretty serious 24-hr a day traffic was a nuisance, for the windows sound-proof quality deserves to be significantly improved. To summarize: decent hotel, decent value, but definetely not a 4-stars advertised.
“Quiet haven at reasonable price in central London”
The Staunton Hotel was surprisingly well appointed - indeed, all the Georgian house hotels on Gower street seem to have been renovated and upgraded recently. Our room at the top of the house and facing the rear was well equipped, comfortable, and very peaceful, wiht an interesting view over the rooftops towards Totenham Court Road.
“Great location”
Price was right and the location is great. Rooms are small but ample. I would stay again if price is most important factor.
