Great hotel

Posted May 1, 2015
Pros: Everything but notably the staff! Great to have a shuttle service to Universal.
Cons: Parking rate decreased would be my only suggestion.
Location: Location excellent for our needs. Close to Universal Studios and Warner Bros.
From the moment we checked in, the service was outstanding. Everyone was so friendly and eager to assist! We were pleased with every aspect of the hotel including location. Pool was beautiful with movies showing in the evening. Gym was well equipped and the Sunday morning yoga in the park area was amazing...thank you Adam for a wonderful experience! Can't say enough about our stay at this hotel. We will be back!

Location, value, but noisy

Posted Apr 30, 2015
Pros: Bed was nice as were the linens. USB ports in lamp base. Didn't use the amenities, but pool scene looked inviting.
The location of the Garland is central to everywhere I needed to be in LA. The price was not bad. The renovation of the rooms was nice. However the facility was too close to the freeway, and although I requested, and received, a room away from the freeway, it was still loud. My balcony was right over the restaurant. Also, the thermostats were out so A/C had to be controlled manually from the old fashioned unit in the corner. To sleep, I left A/C on high throughout the day to chill the room to a temperature that was comfortable without running the loud unit. How this was not taken care of is beyond me. Further, the showers are designed similar to the W. Open stall with half glass and no door. As at the W, this results in a soaked floor and mat upon exit. Just a dumb design. Put a door on it. Also, need microwaves in room. If you have a fridge, you need a wave. The front desk staff was very pleasant and accommodating. I recommend a high floor away from the freeway if you're gonna go.

Nice hotel but close to freeway

Posted Apr 29, 2015
Location: We used the trolley to go to universal one day and to access the metro the next day which was convenient;
Fun decor. Cute pool. Good food. Comfortable rooms done in a modern way. Very clean. Very pleasant accommodating staff. Only bad thing was two hairs in breakfast food and the hotels proximity to the freeway. Although many hotels in LA are right on the freeway...

Quirky hotel in North Hollywood

Posted Apr 29, 2015
A "mission-style" hotel just off the 101 that tries to feel retro in a world of cookie-cutter Holiday Inns and Hiltons. It sort of works. The downside: hallways with orange and brown carpets and whitewashed fake adobe walls. The upside: we had a spacious, modern room and the pool looked lovely, though we did not try it. Note the beds are soft. Very nice, helpful staff. Not a classic tourist location, but well-positioned relative to major highways and it's a short drive to restaurants. Hotel restaurant is just OK. Good bar, but beware that last call is 10:30PM . . .

Highly recommend The Garland

Stayed at The Garland April 21-22/15. The staff were excellent. The room was clean & decor was updated & trendy. Loved the shuttle bus & movie by the pool. This was the best hotel of our stay in California - out of 6 hotels total. Definitely recommend The Garland for your LA visit.

Nice hotel. Location is excellent for attractions

Posted Apr 28, 2015
I only had one bad experience where we ran out of toilet tissue and had to repeatedly call the front desk, over an hour, to get the tissue. But overall the hotel staff was great, the location was close to many attractions. The hotel is has many modern upgrades. I enjoyed my stay. Maybe they should consider a microwave.

Great Hotel, close to attractions.

Posted Apr 27, 2015
We stayed for 4 days. The staff was very nice, and very helpful. There is breakfast offered two ways, everything left of the toasters was your usual quick items, and more than enough for us. The fruit bowl is not to be missed. Very Fresh! Close to Universal Studios, maybe 6 minutes by car, and there is a Hotel trolley in the lobby that runs every hour. There is a store on premises that sell tickets at the going rate so you can bypass the admission line which was nice. I was wondering if we should purchase "front of the line" passes but the staff knew it wouldn't be crowded and suggested we go with the cheaper tickets. She was right. We had no issues with waiting to se an attraction whatsoever. Rooms were clean and well stocked. There is a nice pool area, as well as a 24 hour laundry that came in very handy. The premises was very clean and well lit at night. A bit challenging to find a nice restaurant for dinner. We asked at the front desk and was directed to a diner. Not what we were looking for, but the food was good. There is a Ralph's grocery store right up the street and has everything, including tasty hot meals to go. Overall, I would recommend this hotel if you're interested in Universal Studios, or visiting Hollywood.
