Overbooked

Posted Jul 27, 2014
Pros: I liked the room which had a view of the pool, and partial view of the ocean.
Cons: The honoring of bookings, it seems that this hotel has a reputation of overbooking and having nonmembers/patrons stay at other resorts.
Location: It's 30 minutes from Fort Lauderdale and South Beach. Restaurants and stores are within walking distance. And the bus stop is located nearby.
I booked my vacation in February, so I never thought that I would run into problems with accomodations. Well I arrived as scheduled on July 19th, and was informed by the front desk that there was problems with the rooms so I would be staying at the Marena's down the street overnight. I was given cash to pay for my stay and the cab ride to the other hotel and that I would be given vouchers for breakfast and lunch for the entire week due to the mishap. The next morning I was to return to Newport at 11:00am, upon arrival the person expediting my accomodations was the Director of the front desk and she advised that she wanted to ensure that I received one of the better rooms so that I should go and have breakfast and return to the desk afterwards. Well, after breakfast my husband and I toured the hotel, so as to give them more than enough time to find a room for us. When we returned to the desk, the Director had found a room for us and asked us to wait a few minutes until it was cleaned. We waited again but for at least 45 minutes, I decided to view the room first without our luggage just in case the room was not to our liking. We proceeded to the room to find that it had not been touched, it was an oceanview which was an upgrade since I had booked a standard room with partial view of the ocean. Returning to the front desk, we advised the Director of the situation and she quickly gave us another room which was what I had booked initially.

Loved it especially being very close to the beach

Pros: Everything
Cons: Pool towels looked old and used
Location: Lots to do and lots to see. Taxi and public transportation right at the door, very easy and convenient, no shortage of restaurant and shopping
My first Miami vacation with my nieces from Canada we were not disappointed, love the location, public transportation right at the door. Room was comfortable, very clean, room service was good, restaurant was good little pricy. Definately will stay again and will recommend to to my friends.

Pros: The location was good. Nice pier off the ocean. The lobby area, restaurants etc were nice.
Cons: The carpeting in the rooms looked old
Overall the hotel was nice. The room we stayed in was a decent size. When we first arrived at our room, it had an odor, as my son said "it smelled like someone took a dump in the middle of the room".

Newport

Do not stay on the third floor. They have banquet rooms there. Loud. Also, you might want to bring plenty of towels from home. We asked several times for extra towels and they were not brought up.

Luxurious and relaxing.

Pros: Same as above. The appearance and the employees are the best.
Cons: The Concierge girls need to have much more knowledge of how to find ANYTHING a guest needs and to get it. I felt I was teaching them.
Location: The Sunny Isles location near Miami . It is family friendly. Two to three blks up the road is a Cuban coffee shop with authentic foods you must try.
First impression as we drove up was fabulous. The facade of the hotel is regal and tropical with the palm tree columns. Then the front desk with Hector at the helm was magnificent. What an asset the Newport has in Hector. The room was perfect. Spacious, and clean . The king size bed was made in such a tasteful way and the ceiling to floor windows overlooking the city , pool and ocean were spectacular. The AC worked great and we had a great time. The cabana rental for the beach for the day is well worth it, and the room service was speedy and efficient. The workers for the beach side amenities were also very efficient and speedy to please. I would have liked a cigar shop and a REAL ESPRESSO Cuban style on site but you can't have everything. The main restaurant was beautiful and ALL the workers were great and ready to please. Unfortunately the chef over cooked our steak but the Manager made all that right on our bill. Thank you Newport Hotel for a wonderful two days and nights.

Great location

Posted Jul 20, 2014
Pros: Beach location
Cons: Overall check in.
Location: Beachfront with some shopping across the street. Had to travel a long way for tour bus.
Had some problems at check in and was placed in wrong room. I had booked a ocean front room and was placed in a pool view room. Talked with front desk manager the next morning and she fixed the problem. The location was great, with beautiful beach front and nice pool. Good value for the price.

Great for what we needed.

Posted Jul 20, 2014
Pros: Friendly staff
Cons: Cleaning and upgrades/maintenance
Location: The location was perfect for us but not on South Beach where it came up when I searched
We were in town one night and wanted to be close to South Beach, this hotel came up so I thought it was closer than it actually was. We had to catch a cruise at the port the following day so wanted something reasonably priced but near the beach. The hotel is older and the rooms needed a little additional TLC and cleaning, however the staff was wonderful! I needed some water around 10pm and the store in the hotel was closed. The concierge said that she would go open the store and get me some. When she was not able to, she had some sent up free of charge for me. I tried to give her a tip and she refused to take it. The actual hotel is not one that I would personally stay at long term, but is served its purpose for us and the staff made the difference.
