The bathrooms and showers were very clean so was the room I slept in When I arrived I was told I needed to buy a daily membership to the hostel which was not on the website or not very clear enough and I was told if I want to lock up my valuables I needed to supply my own lock ( of course they did offer to sell me one ) that was never stated on the website so I had to carry around my valuables with me wherever I went

Cons and pros of hostels. Clean but limiting.
Additional fee for not being a member. Strict prohibition of water or food in rooms. Shared refrigerator. Squeeky metal bed frames. Some mattresses dip in the middle, uncomfortable. Shared bathrooms, so have to walk out room at night to use. Good breakfast. Clean up your own linens. Staff attentive.

for a US Hostel it was a great find!!! Very thoughtful and well designed. Welcoming and a diverse group of people. Safe, Clean and enviromentally thoughtful! Great Place!

Good but not for me
Not my type of travel stay. Eventhough I got the Suite, the service was not what I expected. Rules for the hostel with eating only in dining room, clean up dishes and utensils after uses, and no food in the bedroom are new to me. They also have Quite Time reserved from 11pm to 6am but the openings of the front doors and kids running can be heard loudly in my room. The front desk check-in was friendly. My kids like the bunkbeds but the other beds are Ok. Overall the stay was OK since It was a hostel experience that I never had besides Hotel Overall Services.

friendly staff n close to beach n aquarium.
Hot pancakes n toast butter, milk n cereal n organic tea my family enjoyed it. Bathroom n shower were also very clean. Will definitely recommend others.

Excellent hostel
For a hostel stay, the atmosphere and facilities were good. Didn't get chance to sample breakfast as it didn't start early enough for us to get to our whale watching trip. (Cocos restaurant a short walk away open from 6am so not a problem). Short walk to cannery row. Comfortable large lounge (we were invited to join in a showing of star wars complete with popcorn when we arrived) Shame the ladies toilets were so far from our quiet private room.

Very conveniently located
The hostel is very conveniently located close to Cannery Raw and the Acquarium of Monterey. It has a parking and the common area is cozy. Breakfast is included. Showers and restrooms are clean, but be aware they are just 2. In high demand season the waiting can be pretty long

Amazing Hostel.
Amazingly good Hostel in terrific location just 2 blocks from Cannery Row & Monterey Aquarium The staff were all really helpful and friendly. Breakfast of pancakes, fruit, oatmeal, killer coffee was more than expected! Off street parking for guest was a real plus.

Luxury Not, Fun YES
Anyone who's stayed in a hostel already knows what to expect here, but note the word "youth" doesn't precede hostel. I was surrounded by people of all countries, ages and lifestyles. Much more enriching than spending down time in a hotel room.

Inexpensive, clean and comfortable.
This was my first time staying at a hostel. The staff was welcoming and friendly. I stayed in the 8 person women's room. The other guests were quiet and respectful. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was no frills, but clean and totally private.

The HI is located very nicely in beautiful Monterey. It's near the seafront and the aquarium. Parking is plentiful, and check in was straightforward and easy. The hostel was fairly quiet, very clean and a pleasure to stay ay. Flapjacks for breakfast were a nice extra.

This is one of the nicest hostels I've ever stayed in. I will definitely be staying there again if I ever make my way back to Monterey. I would highly recommend staying here to anyone!!

The hostel was good, the clerk allways up to a joke. The shower was not realy good. It is ok to save water since california is in a drought, but that coin machine in my shower was did not work how it should, so i ended up half showered only. Check that thing please! (Downstairs, second shower on the right.)

Great hostel with kind staff and great breakfast
It was a great stay in the hostel. We had our own room for the family. The room was very clean and the beds were comfortable. It is not a lot of space, but it is a hostel and not a hotel. The hostel has a large living room which is very nice and gives you enough space to eat and relax. The kitchen has everything u need. The best is the breakfast. Every morning they make pancakes for you and you will find maple syrup and Nutella and many more things to eat.
