“Would definitely go back!”

Are you looking for a fun, clean, slightly secluded resort? Then Tensing Pen is it! Located on the CLIFFS in Negril, you are about a 10 minute taxi ride to town and a 15 taxi ride to the beach. They did an awesome job setting up the rocks area to jump from the cliffs. It feels approachable and it's fun! You have to jump from the bridge too! The restaurant overlooks the pool and the water, which is also beautiful! The environment feels like you're away from the rest of the world - a relaxation dream! It seems that all the rooms are separate from each other (with thatched roofs!), and have their own privacy. There is a lot of greenery which gives it a great "jungle" vibe. Our room was perfect. The private porch was awesome for relaxing and getting away from the sun for a bit. In the room there was a mini fridge, iron board, fan, mosquito net canopy bed, and all the usual bathroom stuff. No hair dryer, but I think you can borrow from the office. They offer continental breakfast: coffee, fresh juice, fruit, toast. You can optionally buy eggs, french toast, pancakes. The staff is SUPER nice and welcoming. They offer lots of help with getting to places around town too. They'll call a taxi for you too. Just a few things to note: There are a few restaurants that are walkable, but most of them are in town or by the beaches. The WIFI is hit or miss at the hotel. There was not a phone in our room, but you can use the office phone. Other than that it's perfect!

Getting around
If you don't want to convert your USD to Jamaican money, then be sure to bring small bills! From the cliffs to the beach or town it cost about 10USD plus tip (generally 2USD). The hotels will call you a taxi as needed, but if you like your driver, then get their number and you can have the hotels call that specific person each time. There is not public transportation, and be careful walking around at night unless you have a group (and a guy with you).
What to pack
Bug spray, sunblock, at least one hoodie and long pants, sunglasses, walking shoes, sandals, bring a day bag for the beach or trips, hat for the beach, and then all the regular tropical beach vacation stuff (shorts, tanks, etc). MONEY TIPS: Bring a calculator or one on your phone for converting money if you use USD there. At the time of writing this 86 Jamaican equals 1 USD. If you don't want to convert your money to Jamaican, then they accept USD everywhere too. But bring SMALL BILLS! Seriously, bring lots of ones and fives. We had a few twenties, and it was hard to use them and get USD back. There is an secure ATM in town that lets you withdraw in USD, but it gives you twenties only.
Must see
We drove two hours from the cliffs to Pelican Bar (in Treasure Beach). It is totally worth the drive! It cost us 120USD to get there and back. And you need to take a boat ride out to the bar (which cost 25USD there and back). Plus tip for both of course. When you're there order the fresh lobster! We also spent one day on the seven-mile beach. While fun, be prepared for lots of people on the beaches trying to sell you stuff (jet skis, jewelry, drugs, etc). I still really enjoyed the water, sand and sun! It's a 10USD taxi ride each way to and from the beach to the cliffs.
Dining
A few awesome places: 3Dives for jerk chicken (30 minute walk from Tensing Pen) Alice's Ras Rody Organics (vegetarian stand right across from Tensing Pen) Da Bar for beers and jerk (20 minute walk from Tensing Pen) Sweet Spice (taxi ride into town) Because there is a fridge in our room, we stocked up at the grocery store in town (most take credit cards). We got some rum and juice as well as beers there and some food snacks.
Nightlife
These are a bit touristy, but here it goes: Alfred's for live reggae Rick's cafe bar Jungle night club

“Best Hotel in Negril for Relaxation”

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! Tensing Pen is one of the most amazing and romantic places I have ever been. If you are looking for a place to connect with your significant other ( or an amazing place to propose) this is it. The pictures do not begin to show you how amazing this place is. The salty ocean air and the sounds... the amazing sounds of the Caribbean as it crashes along the rocks....so wonderful. The property is lush and has done an amazing job using natural wood to blend it perfectly with nature. The cliffs are amazing and the jumping in and floating in the Caribbean was truley soothing for my soul. I felt instantly relaxed and well taken care of by the equally beautiful people who work so hard to run this amazing hotel. You won't be disappointed and I secretly don't want too many people to find out this gem. We got back this morning and I am secretly trying to plan my return already. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!

Getting there
Caribbean airlines was a nightmare coming back. Our 9:30 landing time turned into 6am after they had to redirect to another airport because it was delayed so much. Confusion and frustration and a very unapologetic attitude from this airline. They never bothered to alert customers of the dealy even though they were aware of it MANY hours before departure and once we were boarded on the plane they didn't realize our destination airport had closed customs for the evening. Such a shame, because i used to travel Air Jamaica and it was wonderful. This airline bought them out and elimnated the movie service, the qualit y of food, the organization and the cleanliness of the aircraft. Book a different airline if you can!
Dining
The hotel has amazing fresh fruit and a wonderful contintental breakfast inlcuded. They also served a great lunch. For dinner, we went to Ivans which was a true stand out. Push cart was also wonderful.. I wasn't as impressed with the Rockhouse restaurant, but perhaps I was spoiled by Ivans.

“Just Like the Pictures”

Loved this hotel. Just beware that some of the cottages have outdoor showers that offer very little privacy (South PIllar for one). Hope to go back every year! This hotel looks just like the pictures!

Area recommendations
We didn't venture very far off of the property. The traffic is quite dangerous. We did go to the restaurant (Sharks) and store across the street. We would feel comfortable doing that again.

Had a great time at the Tensing Pen. Renting a scooter was a huge benefit as well. We were able to disconnect and re-energize. A great vacation! We will be back!

“Great hotel away from the crowds”

This is an excellent boutique hotel away from the crowds. The property is beautifully designed and located on a cliff with gorgeous views of the ocean (even during a thunderstorm). Excellent service from the front desk staff. They went out of their way to get me a last minute massage 2 hours before I was departing on a Sunday morning (the massage was also excellent). Make sure your room has a/c if you need it because not all rooms have it (mine did). Also, the property is not on the beach - there is easy access the water, but the hotel is on a cliff, so there's no sand. Plenty of beach chairs around for you to lay out on and enjoy the view, though.

“Heaven on earth”

Tensing Pen is perfect in every way. I would recommend this hotel to couples, friends and single travelers. If you are looking for a private relaxing vacation Tensing Pen is the place. The staff is excellent and the grounds are beautiful. I could not find one bad thing to say about this resort. I would go nowhere else in Jamaica but Tensing Pen.

“Nice resort”

Nice resort...only problem was we were not told that our room had no air conditioning (90+ degrees F. inside and outside!). We asked to move to air conditioned room, but they were not available. Other than that, very quaint and beautiful place to stay, great breakfasts and good refreshments.

“Can't wait to go back! They truly make you feel special.”

My boyfriend and I stayed at Tensing Pen for 4 days/nights - and we wish we could have stayed longer. We came to Jamaica for a friend's wedding at another resort. And we were so happy that we didn't stay there! Tensing Pen is by far one of the best kept secrets of Jamaica. Everyone is so friendly, the food is great, the drinks are wonderful, and the wildlife (crabs, birds, lizards, snails, hermit crabs, flowers, etc.)is amazing. We had a lot of fun jumping off the cliffs and bridge into the water. Writing this is making me want to go back!
