    Pocket Guide: Jamaica

Jamaica is known for its beautiful beaches, tropical weather, and friendly natives. This island nation is the third-most populous English-speaking country in the Americas, coming in after the United States and Canada. Jamaica was taken by the United Kingdom from the Spanish in 1655, and today remains a Commonwealth realm.

When visiting, make sure to sample local delicacies such as jerk chicken. Rice and peas cooked in coconut milk and filled pastry dishes known as patties are popular foods as well.

    When to Visit

The general climate of Jamaica is tropical. Weather can be hot and humid, but the inland areas have a higher altitude than the coastal areas and, as such, have a more temperate feel. Temperatures generally run between the mid 70s and high 80s year round making for perfect swimming weather.

The best time to visit Jamaica is from October to mid-December. During this time, it's easy to find cheap hotel deals in Jamaica, allowing you to find and book top rooms at special discount rates and some of the best prices of the year for Jamaica hotels. The weather during this time is at its most gorgeous, and you can avoid much of the crowds present during the busier months.

The months of January to March are when most people visit Jamaica, particularly in March. This is another good time to visit as events such as the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival, the Bob Marley Birthday Bash, and Bob Marley Week take place during this period of time. This is also the most popular time for tourists to visit, so the crowds can be quite large. If booking one of the hotels in Jamaica during this time, you will want to make reservations well ahead of time.

From April to June, the island experiences a rainy season. This is a great time to visit if you are looking for a cheap Jamaica hotel deal. Some of the most amazing Jamaica hotel deals and Jamaica hotel packages are offered at rock-bottom prices. In early April, the island holds a fabulous Carnival celebration with an amazing and stunning array of colors, sounds, and an extremely fun party atmosphere.

From July to September, flights and room rates are often the lowest of any time of the year, but this is also hurricane season. Many hotels and attractions close for renovations during this time further making it one of the least favorable times to visit.

    "Jamaica Jazz Festival 2015 Getaway"
This was my second time to the island. It was a short 3 day stay for the festival. On arrival I had a private check-in due to my Gold status which was new to me. My room was cosy, quiet and clean. The hotel design is conducive to relaxing and the facility is impeccably maintained . There are various restaurants the cater to different food tastes with polite, well trained staff members.I'd like to say special thanks to Mrs. L Joseph-Campbell and her staff for their service and attention to detail, this made my stay even better. I will definitely return to this hotel and recommend to friends.

    "Great hotel near the airport!"
Our experience was a great winter getaway from the cold. We went in february. There were still plenty of people visiting the hotel during our stay. Our overall experience was great. Of course we have a few minor complaints, but we would highly recommend the place to anyone looking for a great vacation! The cable in the hotel room had poor reception. Some channels were unable to be watched because of the quality. Perhaps a better tv was needed. The remote controls could be update. Broken and taped together. There was no clock in the bedroom which made it difficult to tell the time if the cell phone was turned off. Beach towel service was provided. One towel per guest. Plenty of ocean water activities for free. The snorkeling was amazing. The ocean was full of fish and underwater life. We went everyday and saw different things each time. The food was generally good. Lunch buffet had a great variety. Wait service was great at buffet but could be improved in restaurants. It seemed that the waiters easily got overwhelmed when the place was busy. Took a loooong time to get food. In the beach grille, none of the chefs were gloves while preparing the food. We saw one chef put his finger in the cheese sauce and then lick his fingers to check the temperature. Everyone touched all of the food that was handed out. It was disgusting. So bad that we threw away the food and never snacked there again. Swim-up bar was great and unadvertised online. Pleasant surprise.

"Excellent, our 9 trip in paradis"
This was our 9 trip at this resort, and it was again excellent. Same quality all over the place. Room was ready, beautiful view of the ocean, nice and clean. We spent a lot of time on the tennis courts and Brent and Norson were very good instructors. Loved the bar on the beach, they remembered our favorite drinks from last year. Beach was large, clean, well maintained. Loved the bonfire and the Valentine's party. Will be back next year!
