Jamaica Hotel & Resort Travel Guide

Jamaica is known for its beautiful beaches, tropical weather, and friendly natives. This island nation is the third-most populous English-speaking country in the Americas, coming in after the United States and Canada. Jamaica was taken by the United Kingdom from the Spanish in 1655, and today remains a Commonwealth realm.

When visiting, make sure to sample local delicacies such as jerk chicken. Rice and peas cooked in coconut milk and filled pastry dishes known as patties are popular foods as well.

    When to Visit

The general climate of Jamaica is tropical. Weather can be hot and humid, but the inland areas have a higher altitude than the coastal areas and, as such, have a more temperate feel. Temperatures generally run between the mid 70s and high 80s year round making for perfect swimming weather.

The best time to visit Jamaica is from October to mid-December. During this time, it's easy to find cheap hotel deals in Jamaica, allowing you to find and book top rooms at special discount rates and some of the best prices of the year for Jamaica hotels. The weather during this time is at its most gorgeous, and you can avoid much of the crowds present during the busier months.

The months of January to March are when most people visit Jamaica, particularly in March. This is another good time to visit as events such as the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival, the Bob Marley Birthday Bash, and Bob Marley Week take place during this period of time. This is also the most popular time for tourists to visit, so the crowds can be quite large. If booking one of the hotels in Jamaica during this time, you will want to make reservations well ahead of time.

From April to June, the island experiences a rainy season. This is a great time to visit if you are looking for a cheap Jamaica hotel deal. Some of the most amazing Jamaica hotel deals and Jamaica hotel packages are offered at rock-bottom prices. In early April, the island holds a fabulous Carnival celebration with an amazing and stunning array of colors, sounds, and an extremely fun party atmosphere.

From July to September, flights and room rates are often the lowest of any time of the year, but this is also hurricane season. Many hotels and attractions close for renovations during this time further making it one of the least favorable times to visit.

    "Relaxing Girls Trip"
The hotel and grounds were nice overall. But we had issues with the air conditioning that took them half the trip to fix (after numerous calls). We repeatedly asked for wash clothes to no avail. The king size bed was very uncomfortable. The food in the main buffet was extremely salty!! Nice resort, but wouldn't visit again.

    "Great value for families"
I would recommend this for a great family value vacation. Part of the resort has been remodeled and is nice. Just make sure you get into one of the remodeled rooms. Beaches were kept very clean by staff every day. Food was average. Did not get to any of the specialty restaurants so can't review those. Buffet was average. Jerk hut and Beach bar food was good. Bartenders at the Jerk Hut were much friendlier than the beach bar. I think they were understaffed. Lifeguards were very friendly and helpful. We were handed a cocktail while we were checking in....nice touch. Great way to start a vacation. Had to see the nurse for sun poisoning and she was very helpful. Nice to know she was there. Housekeeping did a nice job. If you want a lounge in the shade you have to put your towel out before 8am or you will be in the sun all day. All in all a nice place. A very solid 3+ star resort.

    "On 7 Mile Beach..."
This my 2nd time staying at the White Sands. We rent the 1 Bedroom apartment so we can have a full kitchen. I must say from last year it has been put to good use. I hope the minor repairs will be fixed (Stove burner missing, pots have seen better days, Refrigerator trays not sturdy) The best thing is your are right on 7 mile beach the most beautiful beach. Front office check in quick and attentive. There is no nightlife and they have only one restaurant which serves breakfast and lunch it closes at 3. There are better food options on 7 mile beach for food. I must say the vendors are annoying they come right up to your chair. This is not allowed in Negril they are to walk on the shore line if anything. I think the hotel needs to tell these vendors to stop harassing the guests. I was sleeping in my lounge chair I had a few choice words.

This was our second all-inclusive experience, and it was much better than our first one in the Dominican Republic two years ago, but it did cost considerably more. The RIU was a very nice resort. The swimming pool was too hot the first few days of our stay. We have a 6-night stay. The Entertainers were very friendly and made the trip more fun. All in all, we were very pleased. We did have quite a walk since we were in Bldg 3 - nearly all the way at the far end of the resort. But I really sort of enjoyed the extra exercise this provided during my vacation. I would definitely come back to this resort, but would like to save a little more money the next time.

Restaurants were great, steak restaurant was our least favorite. Breakfasts were great. Buffets were good, but not great. We will definitely come back again.
