Jamaica Hotel & Resort Travel Guide

Jamaica is known for its beautiful beaches, tropical weather, and friendly natives. This island nation is the third-most populous English-speaking country in the Americas, coming in after the United States and Canada. Jamaica was taken by the United Kingdom from the Spanish in 1655, and today remains a Commonwealth realm.

When visiting, make sure to sample local delicacies such as jerk chicken. Rice and peas cooked in coconut milk and filled pastry dishes known as patties are popular foods as well.

    When to Visit

The general climate of Jamaica is tropical. Weather can be hot and humid, but the inland areas have a higher altitude than the coastal areas and, as such, have a more temperate feel. Temperatures generally run between the mid 70s and high 80s year round making for perfect swimming weather.

The best time to visit Jamaica is from October to mid-December. During this time, it's easy to find cheap hotel deals in Jamaica, allowing you to find and book top rooms at special discount rates and some of the best prices of the year for Jamaica hotels. The weather during this time is at its most gorgeous, and you can avoid much of the crowds present during the busier months.

The months of January to March are when most people visit Jamaica, particularly in March. This is another good time to visit as events such as the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival, the Bob Marley Birthday Bash, and Bob Marley Week take place during this period of time. This is also the most popular time for tourists to visit, so the crowds can be quite large. If booking one of the hotels in Jamaica during this time, you will want to make reservations well ahead of time.

From April to June, the island experiences a rainy season. This is a great time to visit if you are looking for a cheap Jamaica hotel deal. Some of the most amazing Jamaica hotel deals and Jamaica hotel packages are offered at rock-bottom prices. In early April, the island holds a fabulous Carnival celebration with an amazing and stunning array of colors, sounds, and an extremely fun party atmosphere.

From July to September, flights and room rates are often the lowest of any time of the year, but this is also hurricane season. Many hotels and attractions close for renovations during this time further making it one of the least favorable times to visit.

"Nice Hotel right on the beach"
Just got back from Riu in Ocho Rios. The hotel is beautiful, right on the beach. We had a junior suite with beach views and pool view. The room was very comfortable and bigger than expected. As far as the restaurants are concerned, we didn't try any of them-lines were too long to get reservations. Ate at the buffet-which was very good. Alot to offer. Also try the Jerk Shack ( I think that's the name) its right on the beach. The shows were awesome w/some very talented dancers. After the shows they interact with the audience to keep the party going. Had a great time at the beach party. Had a steel band and fire show.

    "Nice but could've been better"
Overall trip was just OK. The hotel's website information could be more robust. Lack of detail with regards to what is included prior to and after upgrades. For example, number of à la carte restaurant meals included based on number of days staying at the resort. Also, room service was unavailable to guests that weren't members of a club and couldn't even be ordered for a surcharge. Beaches were very rocky in some areas and depending on where you stayed on the resort, they were a good walk away from your room. Other than a couple of our servers, most of the staff did not seem very pleasant or happy. Rooms were clean, although housekeeping would forget one set of towels or forget to restock the complimentary minibar/bottled water. TV in the room didn't include a remote. Light above toilet in the bathroom did not work when we arrived, we requested it to be fixed as of day 1 and it was never fixed upon our departure.

This is my 4th stay in Jamaica and my 3rd in RIU, twice with my spouse and once with my family including children. It has everything you need, food, drinks and activities to do, both on the resort and in the vicinity. You can't go wrong.
