Good location for experiencing Honolulu. No frills or worries. Basic accommodation at reasonable prices for Waikiki.

Nice close to the Convention, but kind of not nice

Posted Oct 14, 2014
Good, It's close to the convention Center, walking distance, nice walk, good Canal view, but hotel is not really nice inside. Pictures on internet are different, Misleading not really what I expected. They shld upgrade the Lobby looks nicer and classy to attract better costumers. And Hallway looks boring, kind of scary. I want to feel more safe there.

Not good, but not bad. You get what you pay for.

Pros: Nice view of the Ala Wai canal and inland valley (opposite from the beach) from my room. Room was clean. It is a budget hotel, so don't expect luxury.
Cons: Refrigerator next to the door created a narrow entrance so luggage had to be turned side-ways to get it in the room. Move refrigerator away from door.
Location: Hotel is on the west end of Waikiki, several short blocks (15 minute walk) from the beach.
Kind of bare bones hotel with the minimum that I would need. The hotel building also supports other activities/businesses and bar/restaurant establishments on the lower levels. The parking garage (self-park) is run by a private service next door to hotel, and the elevators to the hotel rooms also provided direct access to the parking garage. There's little room to park temporarily in front of the hotel entrance (hazard tape around the entrance prevents you from getting close to the entrance) while you check-in though. And the parking garage won't give you the hotel parking rate until you check-in and can prove you are staying at the hotel (not very helpful - very distrustful). People at the front desk ranged from very pleasant and helpful to indifferent, depending on the shift/day or when you called the front desk. Free Wi-Fi was only next to the front desk with a handful of chairs to sit on; not much of a hotel lobby.

Me & my g/f stayed for 1 week and the hotel was in a great location. It is close to beach, shops & restaurants. Friendly staff and 24/7. I definitely recommended to anyone.

Nice view room

Posted Sep 26, 2014
Pros: Nice View, good location.
Cons: Update room, provide more front desk staff, updated info signs (no ice machine, etc).
Location: Location is right at the start of the Waikiki strip and nearby Ala Moana Shopping Center.
Older room with nice view. Room included a microwave and refrigerator. Carpeting was very worn and soiled. Room decor needs to be updated. Arrived around 6pm, and took a while to check in. No one was at the front desk. Security guard radioed and said someone will be there shortly. It took about 15 minutes. While waiting, another couple and another guest also need help from the front desk. Looks like they might have been short handed.

Do not stay here.

Posted Sep 13, 2014
Pros: Nothing.
Cons: Everything, starting with basic maintenance. Wash the windows. Clean the carpets.
The lobby smelled of raw sewage. My room was tiny with no lanai. The bed was dreadful. The carpet was old, worn faded and badly stained. I spent one night of my life in the Hawaiian Monarch and that was one night too many. Spend a few bucks more and stay somewhere else!

Decent for the price and location

Posted Aug 24, 2014
Pros: Cozy with a fabulous view and great location
Cons: Televisions, more comfortable beds or at least a queen.
Location: McDonald, Taco Bell, fine dining, bars, 3 grocery stores, and shopping all in walking distance. Walmart in driving distance.
The beds are very tiny. The mattresses are not kept clean but the sheets are. There is no television in the room. Two occupants stayed here for two months. The bedspread was not wasted in over a month 1/2 of the stay until it was requested to be done. They do provide a decent kitchenette setup. Beautiful location on the beach with a river. Convenient location for meals etc. Grounds are kept tidy. Internet is sporadic sometimes.

Front desk not very welcoming, but room ok

Posted Aug 14, 2014
Pros: Cheap price.
Location: we were'nt there long enought to do anything.
Every time I went down to the lobby, no one was at the front desk. I had to yell so they would come from the back. And no apologise ,no smile.... There is no ice machine in this hotel so don't get hurt...
