This hotel is located in the heart of North Beach, one of the most historic and colorful sections of San Francisco. You would have to stay there weeks to take in all of the fine restaurants--especially Italian and seafood restaurants--that North Beach offers. The hotel is across from Washington Park, which nicely mitigates the chic urban vibe. There is excellent, frequent bus transportation to all parts of the city.

Washington Square Inn is in a good location, overlooking the square. Room was clean and spacious, though noisy as we were at the front of the building looking on to the square. The windows didn't seem to keep any of the noise out.

The Washington Inn is in a perfect location in North Beach, San Francisco! We loved the area and all it had to offer. No need for a car. The check-in was easy with the codes, however I missed a front desk person. The room itself was spacious but needed a deep clean…Turning on the fan the dust went everywhere. The pillows needed replacing as soon as possible. But overall, we had a wonderful couple of nights in a fantastic location!

Rooms was tiny and had a huge bleach stain on the carpet. Pain in the ass to use the wireless codes and keys and no reception or anyone to help etc if needed. Zero hot water and lobby noise was SO loud. Location is amazing!

Self check-in worked as expected with no issues. You need a cell phone to check in though & a certain app. Also, the remote staff was quick to respond to my text message and able to accommodate a room change very quickly. Just know there’s no elevators so if you have lots of luggage you may want to consider staying elsewhere.

I loved the location of Washington Square Inn. It was right in the heart of North Beach, and perfect for me as I was visiting someone who lives there. The electronic key aspect was different, but it worked out fine. Housekeeping staff were really nice, and I spoke to the front desk on Thursday, and she was great too. Only issue I had was that the shower faucet handle needs maintenance -it was a bit difficult to operate, but worked- and I think they also should have an extra blanket in the room. The wall heater was not working and it was a bit chilly. However, I liked the room, its proximity to North Beach, and would return again next time in San Francisco.

This is a great place to stay but it is not for everyone. No staff in sight, so you have to be okay with that. I loved our big room looking out on Washington Square. It seems like the hotel is slowly upgrading its furnishings, but the decor is still patchy. We had lovely new pillows for our window seat but the carpeting was stained and needs replacing. The tea and coffee station in the shared living room needs perking up and so does the shared fridge. Would I personally stay there again? Absolutely.

In the Heart of North Beach
Awesome small SF apartment building renovated with small but well appointed rooms in the heart of North Beach. A great romantic couples hotel. I live in SF and stay here at least twice a year just to walk to all the bars and restaurants which are so close. Street parking is a challenge but I’ve always found one close.

Customer service was kinda rude. Inconvenient that there's no actual person at the front desk and everything is done remotely. The mobile app key system worked fine, but also means that only one person has access to the key.

All was good ;quaint hotel, cozy room, would have had 5 stars except there was no heat in the room. Small wall heater was very weak and we had to sleep in multiple layered clothing. A painfully cold night

Close to many dining options. It was great. The hotel is historically old but clean. Bed is not comfy and bathroom fan was so noisy. Water from toilet was running all night til you start jiggling the flush for water to stop.

Think twice!
Do not make my mistake and book a room with an “extended” bathroom which is NOT attached to your room but across the hall. For the price of these rooms you can do WAY better in SF and get a real bathroom. As other reviews note, this is a DIY hotel with no explanations of how things work, and nobody there to help you. In room 12 there are is also not a single electric plug available, Wi-Fi was spotty, and the heater was totally inadequate so the room was uncomfortably cold in December. There are so many better options in SF at what they charge. I regularly travel to SF and booked this room as a treat to myself to stay in North Beach for a change and was left felling ripped off.

Hello Well perhaps the issue was that the room does not state extended but external bathroom. We do explain that although there might not be a physical person on site all the time, that we do have a 24/7 telephone number to call for any issues, problems or questions any guest might have. Because if you had called with any of your questions or complaints we could have switched your room. You chose that room, so I am sorry that you felt ripped off. As for the price of these rooms comment, well I do not exactly agree. The Chain Hotel nearer the airport, will always be cheaper than a small business, individually owned and located on the corner of Washington Square Park( in a historic 1913 building ). Well, it’s fine. Not sure I like the no contact deal but we were able to get inside and in the room with ease. Towels and bedding is worn out. Should be noted in booking “ no air conditioning”. Stairs were hard to massage with heavy luggage. Did not enjoy the homeless people constantly trying to get inside. Would of been nice to ask “someone” about dining options. Cause waiting for one hour for takeaway breakfast was not fun.

I stay here every time I visit San Francisco. It’s situated in the middle of North beach. 2 blocks from Chinatown. Great Restaurants, the Embarcadero. Russian Hill for those with strong legs!
