We were traveling with our small dog. There was grass on the property which made it comfortable for her. Although the hotel is tired and dated and in bad need of some modernization, the beds were very comfortable.

This is the second time that I book online and when I go to check in they can’t find my reservations or that my reservation shows less people then what I booked it for. They take quite a while to find my right reservation even after I give them my itinerary number. Very frustrating. I am already super tired from my travel’s.

Liked the location for traveling from Querétaro toward Matehuala by car, because it is very close to the bypass. The hotel is otherwise not particularly pleasant. Check-in is slow. Only one key although there were two of us. Dripping faucet. Not very cheery decor. They didn't give us enough water.

Property is in an unsafe industrial area there is razor wire strung across the back and the side wall of the property there appeared to be no security cameras at all also that advertising was a bit deceptive and that we were traveling with pets we checked in no problem and then later when we went to change rooms they told us we had to pay almost double the cost of the room because we had pets

My Expedia reservation was not in their system when we arrived but the receptionist was very friendly and helpful, taking the time to find me a room right away. Really appreciated that our cats could stay with us for a very reasonable fee too. Breakfast was delicious as well!

The room had glass counters and table DANGEROUS and not too smart. It is winter and we were not told that there is no heat in the room unless you walked up 3 flights to another room. CLEVER! We were forced to stay because of this We had to walk up 3 flites and both us are in our 80s No fun They should disclose this especially as this is winter. Even though we stayed we would ask for a refund Please respond Thank you Mr and Mrs Moss

Nice Overnight Stop Over with Pet
Had to wait to get what we previously reserved, a king bed, but other than that we have no complaints. The room was clean and accommodating. I missed having a bath mat, but that’s not very important. I was traveling with my dog and there was an extra charge of $250 pesos. Had to go back to the fine print to find this rule. So be prepared if traveling with a pet.

Good property for a budget hotel.*
This was an inexpensive stay right off the SLP bypass around town. Fine for our purposes of a quick overnight stop, but it is out in an industrial area. The property was having problems with locks and room keys during our stay, so the desk clerk had to let you into your room each time you closed the door behind you. Overall the staff was friendly, the rooms were basic but very clean. Well lit parking lot and night-time security. Negatives were never had hot water, WiFi was quite slow and there is no elevator in this property.

This is not a 3.5 star. Barely a 1 star. It was under construction. Noisy, no hot water, bedding terrible, and traffic noise all night. Should not be renting rooms in this condition. They should have paid us to stay. I would like a refund for this room.

Worst Night Ever
This is a dirty, very uncomfortable hotel. The bed was about broken, no food, out of way for anything else. The window would not shut - it was freezing cold. No heat or A/C.

I reserved five nights and was shorted two tonight's by the hotel along with other family members, but they were able to keep their 5 day reservations but expedia and Zar hotel did not keep my reservation even though expedias email stated "Your reservation is confirmed. No need to call to reconfirm" will never use expedia ever again

Felt very safe!
Quick stop over when driving through town, extremely over priced. WiFi didn’t work, never got a signal, but there were several federalis staying there so the place was very secure!! Breakfast was also good.

Unfriendly front desk staff, lost our reservation that was made 7 months before, not even an apology, took 45 minutes to book us in. Our fourth time staying at this hotel, it has few amenities but we choose it because it allows dogs and although we have stayed 3 times before we have never been charged an extra fee for the dogs until this time when 3 men appeared at our door and asked if we had dogs (like we were criminals) we only stay at hotels that accept dogs so we don't even try to hide them. No telephones. clock radios, hard beds and one towel per person but the room is clean and the location is good.

The main floor of this hotel is occuloied by the Mexican Policia Federales. Almost the entire parking is full of their vehicles and theire is a guard on the front door 24/7. There is no elevator, no glasses, no telephone in the room. There are ice machine, one vending machine and no breakfast. Non English programming on the TV and ceramic tile floors that echo all night long with suitcases being rolled down very long halls. There is nothing about this hotel that would entice one to return.

The hotel is worn down. A/C in rooms is poor. Rooms are not clean. Corners have grime, walls are dirty, tile grout is dirty and moldy, sheets are old. They have a pet policy but it is for dogs under 10 pounds only. Restaurant is very basic with snack food only.. Would not recommend and would not stay there again. Staff is not friendly and the entire attitude reflects poor moral. NO ELEVATORS. Rooms had no phones to contact front desk, no clocks, no coffee maker, no hair dryer.

Zar it's like being in jail.
It was close to the main highway, it was super safe because it was full of armed Federales. They charge for everything, even the bad coffee

I have stayed at this hotel 2 additional times since the first review. Each time, I received a room not as nice as the time before. The last room I received needed paint in the bathroom, and had a mold problem by the shower door. Very stingy on towels. Breakfast started late. They never could find my reservation. However, because I had the email confirmation, they honored it. And that was with 3 people working on it. I don't know what the problem was. In general, it's a beautiful hotel, but next time, I will choose to stay at the Ibis down the road.

Looks can be deceiving. Not recommended at all.
Outside of hotel and grounds are beautiful. Lobby is beautiful. The room, where do I start. Hotel says it's five years old but too looks 15. Run down, dirty looking. Shower runs water into the floor so it's 1/4 inch deep after shower thus the moldy floor and walls. Shower drips all night. Need ear plugs. This hotel is directly across from a FEDERAL PRISON. We were the only car in the parking lot when we checked in and there were only two more when we checked out. Now we know why. Female clerk was very helpfull, male night shift didn't say a word to us at all even when we spoke to him. Free breakfast was toast, bad coffee with coffee mate. No milk. Asked for the juice that came with it and didn't get it. This was the worst hotel we ever stayed in. Internet didn't work in rom and we had to sit in the lobby to use it. No fun after driving all day. Couldn't wait to leave.

Perfect for thru-travellers!
We were very happy with the Zar Hotel. I was delighted to see the cleanliness, and appealing decor. The location was excellent for us, right off the highway. Easy off, easy on. The water in the shower was great both with heat and pressure. Shampoo and a bar soap was provided. Our pillows were on the flat side, I have to say. The "free" breakfast was not sufficient, but they have nice menu selections, including hot cakes, waffles, eggs, etc. (opens at 7am)
