Novelty worn outPosted Feb 13, 2014
Pros: The staff are very welcoming but not over friendly.
Cons: Though the decoration harks back to the Hotel's history, it could do with being touched up in places.
Location: The location is convenient for The Bund and Nanjing Road areas where there are plenty of shopping and eating outlets.
I have stayed at the Astor House Hotel twice, both on business trips. The first business trip afforded me the luxury of a generous sized room with full-size bath. Amazed by the history of the place and the decoration it was easy to look back on the place with rose-tinted spectacles. Which I did. My most recent trip could only stretch to the penthouse room which suffered from terrible sound ingress from the lift/elevator shaft. It could be heard operating in the early morning and late into the night as other guests arrived and departed.

Historical But Slightly InconvenientPosted Feb 7, 2014
Pros: Pretty and historical.
Cons: WiFi is available bur horrific.
Location: Not near a subway. Great location for a view near the bund, but not near a subway.
The Astor House is a beautiful historical hotel. It has a pretty lobby and many options for types of guest rooms. They are all nicely decorated. The standard rooms are cozy. The beds are decent. The hotel has the slowest wifi i have ever experienced in my life. Probably worse than having none at all. Basically worthless besides checking your email. Also, although at the top of the Bund with beautiful views, it is a heck of a walk to a subway station. If you are planning on navigating the city yourself and taking the subway (recommended), then stay somewhere else.

Great location and old world charmPosted Jan 12, 2014
Awesome location on Puxi side of Shanghai, at the top of the Bund. Very close walk to shops and restaurants and viewpoints for day and night.

Excellent location, lots of space and historyPosted Dec 18, 2013
I wonder why the price is so modest. This a great hotel located just in the middle of some of the most famous sights of Shanghai. The location is perfect. The condition of the hotel is good and the rooms are big and beautiful. So much history has happened at this place, I highly recommend it. I stayed 3 nights and only have good things to say.

Excellent Except for Water IssuePosted Dec 10, 2013 on Hotels.com
Fabulous historic hotel just across from the Bund. My room was very large and comfortable, with a luxurious and large bathroom. Only problem was not enough water pressure/hot water to be able to take a shower in the morning. Only there the one night, so just did a wash-up at the sink and thus no idea if the problem could have been addressed had I informed the staff. This would have been an incredible value if not for the water issue.

Location: People have complained about the location just north of the Bund. Taxis are relatively inexpensive . USD 4-5 will get you to most tourist sights.
