Don't limit yourself to Tautavel, because this region has a wealth of cultural and scenic attractions just waiting to be explored. Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet, is 12 miles (19 kilometers) to the east. Head there to check out the Gorges de Galamus and Ermitage de St-Antoine.
Approximately 11 miles (18 kilometers) to the southeast of Tautavel is Perpignan, a regional center where you can explore Stade Gilbert Brutus, Le Castillet and Campo Santo. Palais de la Deputation, Perpignan Cathedral and Palais des Congres are more points of interest in Perpignan that should be included on every visitor's itinerary.
If the weather is fine, head outside to experience Languedoc-Roussillon's open-air markets. When the weather's less than perfect, don't worry, Languedoc-Roussillon features a wide range of art galleries, history museums and art museums, that will keep you and your family entertained.
