Great hotel in northwest DC

Posted Jan 19, 2015
We found this hotel to be delightful! We brought our dog Barkley and the staff was very pleasant and receptive to him. The hotel cleaned the room with him in it while we were out the one day (we stayed two nights) and seemed totally fine with it. We travel most places with our dog but frequently stay with friends and family, so such nice treatment in a hotel was a breath of fresh air. We were in town to see the eagles play the redskins (sadly ended not so well for the Eagles..) and to just explore the city. It is about a one mile walk to Georgetown, which was nice and had great shopping/people all around. Dupont Circle is right down block and has a lot of neat places to check out too. Hotel is clean and comfortable- firely restaurant within serves brunch until 2 which is a nice touch. Great food, a bit pricy but, frankly, it is DC so it's still competitive really (we're fairly suburban in price views really). The rooms are really spacious, with a separate little kitchen area off main room and a mini fridge if you need. The bed is very comfy! Staff is very willing to help in any way- unfortunately, I have somewhat faulty ankles and one was bothering me the one day we were in town (probably from a lot of walking). I sent my fiancee down to ask about ice as we didn't see a machine and the front desk made a vacuum sealed ice pack for me, which was so nice and totally not necessary. I was very impressed by that. All in all, I loved this hotel and we will definitely return

Excellent

It is really me family's favorite hotel in Washington D.C. Since our first stay there in May 2010, we have been returning to it over and over again. We like everything about it, i.e. location, rooms, restaurant, surrounding, etc. What makes it more valuable for us is that it is dog friendly!! Highly recommend.

I've stayed at a number of Kimpton properties in Washington, DC, and have enjoyed every one...until now. The Hotel Madera is conveniently located and features wonderfully contemporary decor and a full-service restaurant. Beyond these positives, things quickly fell apart--sheets routinely were not changed, housekeeping was shoddy, a requests for extra towels took nearly an hour to fulfill, the free wi-fi network had such limited connectivity that it was not useable, and worst of allkey cards de-activated daily. After the end of a long day of touring the city, retiring to my hotel room required an extra trip to the front desk every time. On my next visit to DC, I'll skip Hotel Madera in favor of other Kimpton hotels in the area.

Great place. Had the pleasure of having a huge rat greet me at the front door upon arrival. On inquiry, it seemed he was a regular there.

Great Staff, Noisy Location.

Posted Dec 2, 2014
Pros: The staff was great, start to finish!
Location: The location was pretty convenient. A short walk to Georgetown, and a short cab ride to the National Mall, Smithsonian.
The hotel was fine, and the staff could not have been better! Very small and uninteresting lobby, and the curb appeal of the place was poor. I thought when we pulled up in front, "I don't like this place already." Overall, the place was just fine. Large room with plenty of amenities. Only negatives were lots of noise from the street; heavy trucks, sirens, a car parked out front at 4:15AM with a very loud and booming sound system that continued for 6-8 minutes. Doubtful it's always that noisy. Other negative was maneuvering bags in and out of the lobby is tricky. As soon as you pass the desk, there's a set of 6 or 7 steps that luggage has to be carried over, either by guests or hotel staff. Poor design for sure.
