Isolated Hotel

Posted Apr 24, 2015
Cons: The pricing of food was does not correspond to the quality offered.
The hotel is generally ok although it needs to be renovated. The rooms very quite nice, clean with good housekeeping. Swimming in the ocean is not really possible as the wateris too shallow. There are also no watersports or other activities close to the hotel offered. There are no other places around where you could eat something so you really depend on the food of the hotel. Unfortunately, the quality of the food is poor and the prices are high. I paid 10USD for a salad with only melon and feta cheese (no dressing, no spices, just plain). The Indian dishes are edible. The hotel Manager also seems to control local taxi drivers and dictate them prices. Although the Manager said he does not take commission from the taxi drivers we had the Feeling that exactely that is the case.

Chwaka Bay Peaceful

Posted Jan 17, 2015 on Hotels
Great resort if you just want to relax by the pool or on the small beach, read books, etc. Nothing else around except another resort. All your meals will be at one of the two, but great food at both. Excellent wi-fi throughout the entire resort even all the way inside your room. Pretty OK pool. Nice landscaped grounds. Room, pool, bar, etc furniture is old and needs replacing. Staff are excellent, especially the manager/owner, who is from India and speaks perfect English. I had had some initial problems with my room, and other issues not with the resort, but with my own travel plans having gone badly. The owner comp'ed my entire food bill, almost $200. Obviously, a great way to check-out after a week of perfect relaxation. Only problem with staff is that there are not enough staff for the high season. If you can get it at a good price and you want a relaxing week, it is an excellent choice.

A sad story :(

Posted Jan 9, 2015 on Hotels
A terrible place. It was a mistake to be here. Unfortunately this was a waste of time and money. I would say the image they use to offer the beach is actually fake. This is the classic depressive place with the poorest management. Bad and overpriced food. Beside service and management, it is a terrible beach (this is the best example about how to convert a paradise island in a depressive place). In top of all that the bed gave me back pain (clumsy old mattress) and they wanted to charge us the food from other room/guests and also they charged the price of our room twice, so if for some reason we don't double-check it in the morning we would have payed twice. Someone should take action about this kind of places and close them down. We spent there 2 nights. We did the check-out as earliest as possible.

Still space for improvement

Posted Jan 5, 2015 on Hotels
We arrived in Chwaka Bay Resort and were welcomed by a Fruit Coctail and a very friendly but stressed manager. After about 20 minutes waiting we were escorted to our room. Apart from the bathroom, which was not as clean as it could be the mattresses and pillows were a bit smelly. The staff at the restaurant and the bar were a bit lazy and sometimes it took one hour to order breakfast, which seems to be normally a buffet, but was changed because of some larger family groups visiting. The nice thing was the trip to Paradise Beach, which is located opposite the Bay and we got a Boat trip there which was for free, apart from the food that we had to pay, which was a BBQ (not the best one) that was very pricy.

Great value for money

Very friendly staff, excellent location right in the bay with magnificent views of the ocean. The food was first rate - as was the value for money. Very recommendable.

La struttura eè fatiscente e si trova in mezzo al nulla. Inoltre la gestione è di una qualità bassissima.

Incredibly relaxing, beautiful location.

Posted Aug 12, 2014 on Hotels
The hotel was in a beautiful location right on the beach, and we actually had to drive on the beach to get to it. There was quite a lot of beach front and also a pool, so there was lots of space for the guests. It felt rather empty (read: quiet and relaxing) despite being mostly full. The manager was incredibly nice and helpful. The drinks at the bar were watered down, so we went to the bar at the hotel next door which had amazing drinks and was just a 2 minute walk along the beach. Since the hotel is situated on the bay, the water is very calm and seems almost like a lake. This hotel was a great value for money.

Dear Guest Thank you for the taking time to share your valuable experience at Chwaka Bay Resort. As you have correctly highlighted that the resort is meant for a quiet and relaxing atmosphere away from other busy areas. The hotel has a beach front of 325 m and you can still walk for 2 km on the beach without being bothered. Also thank you for highlighting the drinks in the bar, we will take steps to rectify the same. Thank you once again for sharing your experience. Regards Ajay
