Paradise on the Big Island

Quality hotel with great ocean view! The staff was friendly and accommodating. The room service was great. One drawback was the proximity of the beaches. Hapuna Beach were about a 35 minute drive away.

Hapuna Beach is a must!

Highly Recommended.

Terrific service, gorgeous location and accommodations. We will definitely go back.

Book your flight from Honolulu to the Big Island along with your hotel to receive great rates. You can also combine that with 3rd or 4th night free discounts from Sheraton for even more savings.

Beautiful

What a beautiful pool complex, great view, and a wonderful open-air feel.

Traveler's tip on dining

We recommend Crystal Blue Lounge for dinner - open air lounge, drinks and a few different "apps" (appetizers)to share.

It all depends on what you’re looking for

This was our second trip to Kona in two years. During our previous trip, we stayed at one of the mega-resorts on the Kohala Coast. Let’s be clear: the Sheraton Keauhou isn’t one of those resorts. It is smaller, older, and some would say less-overblown. The grounds and lobby are lovely. Much of the remainder of the hotel feels like a older actor trying to regain some of the their former glory; they try to dress it up extremely well, but every now and then, a wrinkle or spare-tire shows. The Sheraton does have a "Hawaiian" feel that we didn’t get at the mega-resort, and just as some people still adore Burt Reynolds, this is reason to love it. Pluses: The front desk was more attentive than any I’ve experienced. They upgraded us and sent Champagne, since it was our anniversary. They were much more helpful than the concierge. Added plus - most flights out of Kona leave late at night. They allow a late checkout until 2pm for free, then for about 1/2 the room rate, will let you stay put until you’d like to leave in the evening (totally worth it!).

Traveler's tip on local attractions

The manta ray dive off of the Sheraton (on the Hula Kai) may be the best money you’ll ever spend in Hawaii. My 8 year old daughter and I did it, and will never forget the experience. My daughter swam with the dolphins two years ago at the mega-resort for three times the price, and was so much more excited about the manta rays!

Perfect

We went to Hawaii expecting to be out exploring all day and at the hotel only for the evenings. That’s exactly what we did and this is a great location for that type of trip. Contrary to our plans, I do regret not spending one afternoon lounging by the resort’s pool. This hotel appears to be a fabulous place for families with an extensive (and shallow) pool, outdoor movies, ping pong and pool tables. The lobby and lounge areas are stunning and offer fabulous views. Of course the food and drinks are a bit pricey, but not unexpectedly so. Rooms are nice, but not over the top and even our mountain side room (vs. ocean side) had a beautiful view. My only complaint was that there was no business center and I was expecting that service on site. You can use one of two computers (for short amounts of time) to check-in for flights and such, but there is no on site solution for more robust business needs. Ideally, you wouldn’t need that service anyway! All in all, we were totally happy with our choice to stay at the Sheraton and would definitely go back.

Fabulous

When we go to Kona we always stay at this hotel. The staff is friendly and the swimming pool is to die for they even have a slide. We are always satisfied with the room but this last vacation we took the carpet was dirty. This was the only problem other then that this hotel is FABULOUS trust me you will love it.

Has seen better days but has a nice atmosphere.

Although I would have expected more from a four star rated Sheraton property, the staff made every effort to provide the best possible service. The property has seen better days and needs updating. The pool area, restaurants, and lounges were enjoyable with excellent selections.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

The conveince of the local shopping and shuttle service allowed us not rent a car. The shuttle offers transportation to shopping and water front activities.

Sheraton Keauhou best on Kona Coast!

This hotel is very relaxed and comfortable. Generous sized pool and fantastic views of Keauhou Bay to the North and the Pacific to the West and South. At dawn the slopes of Mauna Loa and Hualalai cascade down from the East in misty magnificence to the sea. The Sheraton is located in an area steeped in Hawaiian history and culture. Something for everyone can be had here.

Traveler's tip on dining

Two great restaurants to check out in the area: Jackie Reys Ohana Grill - Kuakini Hwy Kenichi Sushi - Keauhou Shopping Ctr Enjoy!

Hotel Beautiful; Service Horrible

The hotel is beautiful and the pool is really neat with a waterslide and a waterfall. I found the service from the concierge to be mediocre, at best as she was not very friendly or helpful. The service at the pool bar was deplorable! I tried two times to get served and neither time was my presence even acknowledged and they were not that busy. There was absolutely no excuse for being ignored.

Fantastic Hotel!

Excellent location, beautiful grounds, and very large rooms. The hotel is a little on the older side, but has been remodeled and is wonderfully maintained. The pool is great and the staff was very friendly and helpful. If you can, attend the Firenesia luau here, it is much more intimate and has a much nicer setting than any other luau we tried. For the money, this hotel can’t be beat. Be sure to go out to the north verandah in the evenings to watch the manta rays swim in the shallow water there.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Take advantage of the hotel’s concierge desk, the staff there really knew where the best deals were to be had and even made several calls for us to book excursions.

Not impressed.

The best thing about the hotel was the manta ray viewing every night! The majority of the staff were not friendly. There was not the "Hawaiian Ohana Flair" that we are used to receiving. The room was old. The ceilings were dirty. The carpeting was dirty with stains. The a/c filters hadn’t been changed (we’re sure) because we both kept sneezing. There were not Hawaiian pictures on the wall or anything special about the room. (It was an ocean view room with a balcony). The worst was the toilet and bathroom. The toilet was the same kind of toilet you would use at an airport. Yuk! We were celebrating our 30th Wedding anniversary. Our last stay in Hawaii was 7 years ago and we stayed at a Sheraton in Waikiki. I don’t think Sheraton will be our first choice of hotel any time in the near future.

Seen better

The parking is far away unless you valet park. The rooms are like any other hotel and actually smaller. It was a diappointment to be on the edge of the ocean and there wasn’t a screen door so you can listen to the ocean. We upgraded to an Ocean view room. Take note we found out, Partial ocean view you view the parking lot and see the ocean through trees. Ocean view, you see 1/2 the ocean and the pool. Oceanfront has full frontal of the ocean and is personally to much for what you get. Found this hotel to be way below expectatoins.

Unless you want to go to this hotel for the pool, I wouldn’t go there.

Great for families

We had a wonderful experience. My two kids ages 8 and 12 loved the water slide. We loved the $5 kid meals and the twice weekly family friendly outdoor movie. Loved the location, close to other restaurants and shops. Friendly and short waiting time at check in. We got upgraded free of charge to an ocean view room just by asking. We had a rental car, so we mostly ate in town. Rockys Pizza in the Longs Shopping Center is very good! Only experienced one rude hotel worker, but took care of that problem with the manager. The grounds are gorgeous too, lots of excellent photo opportunities. It was an awesome vacation!

Try the Fair Winds boat for afternoon snorkeling-very family oriented. Also go to the grocery store and get a few breakfast items to store in the refrigerator in your room.

Can’t wait to go back

I was worried about the hotel due to some of the reviews we read before leaving but I must say they were wrong. The hotel was very nice and took care of our every need. We booked the hotel on expedia and had not problems checking in or out. My husband and I can’t wait to go back. It was Wonderful!!!!

Service has gone downhill

I’ve stayed at this resort over 60 days in the past two years and I’m sad to say that the service, especially poolside is unsatisfactory. I talked to the management about it...but I will look elsewhere next visit to Kona.

Will be staying at another hotel next trip.

The front desk and valet were extremely pleasant and efficient. The shower floor and bath mat was dirty. I wiped the shower seat, hand rails, the entire bathroom(ADA room) with clorox wipes and it turned brown. After wiping down the entire room and using shower slippers, the room itself was very comfortable.

Wonderfully situated

The Sheraton provided the perfect location for travel each day into Kona and for day trips to anywhere on the island. The manta ray viewing at night was a special bonus! We would definitely stay here again.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Town of Kona is just a few miles away with many shops and lots of great restaurants! Breakfast opportunities in Kona are great!

best hotel experience

my wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon. It’s absolutely amazing. You never need to leave the hotel, even tho I suggest that you do and see the sites. They have everything, and would work for a romantic getaway and a family getaway. They have water slides, a huge pool, ping-pong, kid areas and room, lava and nature walkways, and the golf course next door. the spa was amazing too. highly recommend.

A Beautiful Resort

I went here for a week long workshop that was being held at this resort. The hotel offers so many different events and amenities to take advantage of. The only thing that I had wished was different was no beach access here. Seems there is beaches a little bit away but don’t expect to be able to take advantage of going and sitting on the beach at this location. However, they do have a beautiful swimming pool and great views to the mountainside and out to the ocean!

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Because it can be a bit expensive for everything you might be interesting in doing... take advantage of the free trolley, a little bit of a ride in some cases but worth it if you have the time and want a scenic route... also if you have the room in the suitcase bring some snacks along with you for your room and there is a refrigerator in your room to take advantage ...go to the local grocery store and eat some meals in your room.

Want to go back and take the whole family!

We throughly enjoyed our trip and the location of this hotel was superb! It was close enough to everything but not in the middle of town. The employees were very friendly. We definitely would recommend this hotel and want to visit again soon.
