excellent hotel

our stay at the Millenium was not our first. Every time it is consistent, the people are very nice and it is a great hotel.

Not impressed

Noone greeted us, or helped us with luggage upon arriving. Receptionists and some hotel men were just standing there looking at us (a petite girl and 2 seniors) struggling. This is also the 1st time in my life staying in a hotel that doesn’t provide us shampoo or toothpaste. Internet is supposed to cost $9.95/ 24 hours based on the agreement on their website, but you will be charged $12.95. We won’t come back.

Quality place to stay in NYC for a cheap price.

Hotel is in a great location. I came in on the train from Grand Central and walked the few blocks with my bag - no sweat. The room was large by Manhattan standards and had a nice view of the Empire State building. Service was good. Overall a very nice place to stay, and the price was definitely reasonable for NYC.

Great location!

A little fancier than we expected, but great accomodations and excellent location for sightseeing.

gorgeous!

Big room by NYC standards, clean, flat screen TV and a COMFORTABLE bed! And only 3 blocks from grand central station... I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Close to Broadway, so hit a few shows while you’re in town... "HAIR" was great!

Great views, great potential, sadly run down

Front desk staff lovely, but no turn down service, worn, threadbare robes, sad pool, stained wallpaper. Large bins of old linen in front of locker rooms, no shower cap or personal items. U.N. Plaza needs a face lift. Wonderful views, clean lined modern furniture, nice sized rooms butlamps were crooked, didn’t work, grimy bath.

Great, quiet historic part of NYC!

Extremely Impressed

I had some concerns when I was booking as the rate for this hotel was significantly lower than others on the same night. Those concerns vanished as soon as we walked in. The hotel is beautiful, the staff knowledgeable and the rooms are huge compared to other NY hotels I have stayed in. We even had a walk in closet (small but still a walk in) The location is ideal - Grand Central Station is 2 blocks away - so it was a perfect stop for a base.

Very Impressed

When I found this hotel available on Expedia, I was a little worried about what I might find, but the hotel was beautiful- right across the street from the UN & about a 15 minute walk to Times Square. There were plenty of taxi’s around, but a nice night for a walk.Bartender in the bar was wonderful- friendly, helpful & informative. Staff were also very friendly. Great stay in NY City!

GREAT HOTEL IN NYC

A hidden gem in NYC. The rooms are very big and clean! The location is great if you want to be near the UN. However, the closest subway is only a few blocks away at Grand Central.

great view of the city

no matter what room you get in either tower, you’re going to have a great view of the city. the staff there were really friendly saying "hi" at every chance and will hold the elevator for you. the room was VERY spacious (we got a 2 doubles superior room even though we ordered the 1 king size superior room). the room actually has a real closet. unfortunately the walls were not soundproof as we were loud and the neighbors heard us and even banged on the wall. the only gripe i had about it was that it was a 10 minute walk away from grand central, but i guess that’s not a problem for most people. at that time, the minibar service was temporarily out of service, so we didn’t have a fridge to put our food into. but overall, it was a really nice place. beds were comfortable, towels were soft, staff was friendly, etc. would definitely stay here again if the price was right.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

to get to grand central, just walk down 44th st and you’ll shave off 2-3 minutes off your walk. we made the mistake of getting to 42nd st and lexington, but there was also an entrance at 44th and lex.

Excellent Stay in NY City

Great place-nice pool, check in was a breeze, bed was incredibly comfortable. Location was ideal-right across from the U.N. so it was quiet at night but lots to do a short walk away. Pool was nice, buffet breakfast was nice but a bit pricey at $18.95. The only negatives: pool was only open until 6PM Sun thru Thurs, the hotel restaurant was closed for lunch and dinner (although to compensate they did offer an excellent room service dinner for $25)and the room needed some cosmetic work (stains on sofa, some paint peeling but no biggie-I just noticed it). Overall a great value-staff was wonderful.

Traveler's tip on dining

Padre Figlio, right across the street, is an AWESOME Italian restaurant. It’s pricey but worth every cent: food and service outstanding.

Nice Sized Rooms

I’ve stayed in some postage stamp sized rooms in NY and this was the exception to the rule. Nice rooms especially for the price. Also, I walked around the corner and had a delightful meal at The Palm.

Needs Some Work

The hotel seems to be going through some remodeling and will probably be very nice once it is completed. We requested a ’Superior’ non-smoking room with a King size bed and when we arrived we were put in a smoking room. We asked to be moved to a non-smoking room. The new room we were given had a queen size bed and was MUCH smaller than the previous room. We were told that it was all they had available. We had paid for the ’Superior’ room, but were never given any compensation for the smaller room we stayed in.

a very nice stay

36th floor of the west tower, the view of Manhattan is great. The rooms are nice. Wireless internet 11,95 $ per day works fine.

Very nice hotel

Our room in the east tower afforded plenty of space and a grand view of Manhattan and the East River. Service at the lobby was prompt and helpful, from getting settled into our room (they even rolled in an extra bed for our son) to getting us a cab to the airport at our departure. The Ambassador Grill was very nice. We arrived for a late dinner one evening and received very good service from the hostess. Our seven-year-old son was catered to very well throughout our stay. The hotel is within walking distance of Grand Central Terminal, making access to the rest of the city a snap.

Highly disappointed

This was a problem plagued trip from the beginning. 1. I called ahead to confirm there would be two beds in the room and when I showed up there was only one. 2. We went out to explore the city and got back at 1 pm to find the room had not been cleaned. I called housekeeping and asked them to clean it before we got back from the matinee show. At 6 pm the room still had not been cleaned. If I wanted to make my own bed I would have stayed home. 3. At checkout my bill reflected 3 nights of parking instead of 2 night which is a big deal considering its $40 night to park. The front desk offered no help whatsoever to clear this up. Overall I was highly disappointed. I do not think I am asking for too much, just give me the room you confirmed, clean the room in a timely manner and get me an accurate bill. This experience has caused me to swear off all Millennium hotels from now on.

Very Impressed

This was my first time to New York since I was a child. Going this time with my wife and daughter I wanted to stay somewhere uptown, clean and safe. Well the Millennium UN Plaza New York was the place for us. The view from our room had the city view, water view and the U.N., oh my goodness. My wife and I are VERY TOUGH critics to please and we walked away very pleased with our stay. The lobby is beautiful. The hotel is a bit on the older side but they have done wonders with the remodeling. The food at their restaurant was just okay. We had the breakfast buffet and were not impressed at all. However, the gym, the room and the attitude and professionalism of everyone was outstanding. Will we be staying here again? For sure. If you plan a trip here in the Spring of 2010 chances are you will be seeing my wife and daughter and I.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

There are a ton of local attractions. However, if you stay at the Millennium UN Plaza New York you are not close to the subways at all. Cabs and your feet will be your best friends.

Loved My Stay at this Hotel

Beautiful view, very helpful staff. The room was a bit unusual in that some of the furnishings and carpet were outdated but the room was very clean and comfortable. I can not think of anything that could have made my stay more enjoyable!

good location

We found the staff wonderful, the location great, but the room was tired with worn out wall paper and counter surfaces, generally in need of an update. We were on the top floor so we heard compressors all night long. The breakfast area look right out of a disco movie and the value was not in line with the steep cost. The hotel price per night was good though, so if you are looking for a bargain, this was fine.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

It’s a quick walk to Grand Central Station and nearly empty on weekend mornings. Great photo opportunity.
