"Excellent location, elegant atmosphere, not ready."
The services and the service were not nearly as elegant at the hotel was in grander times, although they are continuing to try. I was there for a conference so we had rooms at a much lower rate than the usual which made me want to stay there again, but only at the lower rate. There are add-on fees for "facilities" that I consider a tawdry mode of managing, room service is open only in certain hours, the lines for the front desk are staffed only by two people. In short, it does not live up to the hotels' former glory -- however it is excellent location for walking to museums and theatre and general shopping. I would recommend this hotel with reservation (of enthusiasm).

Great room, ideal location, Friendly staff. Only thing I'd say is their policy on cleaning the room is between 1000-1800, which is much longer than most hotels I've been to.on the first day we left the hotel at 8 and came back 1730 to find the cleaner just starting my room, we waited outside for the 25minutes while it was finished. A similar occurrence the day after also. I spoke to the reception on the second day and they made a note to have our room done earlier in the day so cannot complain at all, just something of note should you be an early riser and like to come back to relax for a while in the affernoon

Pros: Great location, very comfortable bed, modern, spacious, clean room, nice lobby and staff.
Cons: Horrible WiFi with weak signal, slightly dated bathroom (but clean), poor quality soap and shampoo, no fridge.
The hotel offered faster internet for $9.95. It seemed like they intentionally slowed it down to make you upgrade, but the problem wasn't just the speed, the WiFi signal was also too weak, so upgrading would have been a waste.

It is a perfect location to access the theaters in Times Square. The lobby it really nice, gives you a high end feel right away. However, the lights are kept very deem. After first this gave it a cool vibe, then I wondered why, what are they trying to hide with the lights so deem. The deem lights made it hard to see the elevator buttons outside and inside the elevator. When I got to my floor though, the lighting was brighter. It is an old building but you can tell they have made efforts to renovate it and make it look nice. My room was small, single bed, plenty big for one person. The bathroom was nice. My biggest issue was with the heat in the room. My window was drafty. Temp was about 69 degrees my whole visit. Usually I like sleeping in a little cooler room, however, the bed was next to the window so all night I could feel the cold draft from the window. I tried to adjust the thermostat, nothing happened. I told the staff about it in the morning asking if someone could check it. Later when I got back to my room it was still cold so I called the front desk asking if anyone had checked it and they sent someone up. I never found out if this was the first or second visit. The guy said he needed a part to fix the heater, but later in the evening the room was still cold, so it was never fixed. I ended up moving the bed away from the window and asked for another blanket. After that I slept ok.

We spent three nights here with our kids and feared the room would be smaller and more outdated than it was based on some reviews we'd read. But it was spacious enough for us, clean and in a terrific location. We all slept reasonably well -- it was quiet at night -- and we loved being just a few blocks from Times Square. If price didn't matter, we'd stay somewhere with bigger rooms and with queen beds instead of full. And it would've been nice to have breakfast available at the hotel for less than $20 per person. But that said, no complaints. We'd happily stay here again. The elevator was slow -- our kids could jog/walk up 8 floors faster than we could get there by elevator -- but it didn't bother us. Staff were friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed our stay.

While not getting the twin-bedded room we had booked for the first night, this was rectified for the rest of our stay by hotel staff who upgraded us to a room overlooking the very beautiful St Patrick's Cathedral. We had a wonderful week in New York. The hotel is perfectly placed, with Fifth Ave, Times Square, Central Park and much more just minutes away! Hotel staff were welcoming, very helpful and courteous. The rooms we stayed in were clean and of a very good size. The beds were very comfortable, which was extremely welcome after all that sight-seeing (and shopping)!
