Villa Ephrussi showing heritage architecture and a hotel
Spend long, lazy days on the fabulous beaches of this picturesque peninsula on the French Riviera. Then tour its historical buildings.

Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat is a French Riviera gem, a seaside resort set in a forested peninsula that juts out into the Mediterranean. For decades, this tranquil haven has been a summer vacation spot of the rich and famous. Luxury yachts sail in and out of the harbor overlooked by grand old villas, while village life chugs along at a gentle pace on the restaurant and café terraces.

Southern France is widely lauded for its exceptional beaches and the sandy expanses of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat are no exception. Make the most of the hot summers in this Mediterranean resort with an afternoon at Port Beach. This is the largest stretch of sand on the peninsula.

For a more intimate setting, rent loungers on the charming Passable Beach. It is situated in a small cove surrounded by trees. Dine at the restaurant with a view of the clear water. At Paloma Beach, rent watersports equipment such as water skis, banana boats and jet skis. Go to the southernmost point of the peninsular for the magnificent sight of the 112-feet (34-meter) Cap Ferrat Lighthouse.

Another landmark structure is the Villa Ephrussi, a palatial hilltop home that once belonged to the Baroness Ephrussi de Rothschild. View the massive art collection, which includes 18th-century paintings, antique furniture and Flemish tapestries. Stroll through the landscaped gardens and take in dazzling views of the sea.

If you want to stretch your legs still further, enjoy a walk along the coastal path. Make sure you come back to the village to unwind in its cozy cafés and restaurants. Try the region’s specialties, such as sea bass steaks and salmon with truffles.

Reach Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat by flying into Nice Cote d’Azur Airport and rent a car for the 30-minute drive east to reach the village. A car is a good idea if you want to explore a little more of the French Riviera. Monaco is just 9.8 miles (15.7 kilometers) away, while the beaches and old churches of Villefranche-sur-Mer are about 10 minutes by car.
