Despite rising costs and affordability concerns, Americans still plan to travel together to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary. Vrbo data shows that families are not forgoing their summer trips, but they are traveling smarter and seeking value for their Fourth of July vacations, with many heading to destinations where vacation rentals for less than $250 per night are still available.
“Fourth of July falls on a Saturday this year, and families are not sacrificing their chance to get away and celebrate with their loved ones,” said Melanie Fish, Vrbo travel expert. “Group travel is still going strong on Vrbo, but we are seeing more travelers seeking discounts and waiting to book closer to their travel dates. The good news is there are still amazing vacation rentals available for America’s 250th that cost less than $250 a night.”
Vrbo’s Tips for Finding Summer Savings
- Look for discounted vacation rentals: 37% of summer vacation rental bookings are for properties that offer deals and discounts. Consumers can save hundreds of dollars by using the “Early booking” or “Last-minute booking” discount filters on the Vrbo app.
- Wait to book: More travelers are booking their trips closer to their travel dates. Booking within 14 days of check-in is up 16% on Vrbo, indicating that consumers aren’t locking in their plans too far ahead and taking advantage of last-minute deals.
- Group-friendly amenities: Traveling in groups allows families to split the cost across multiple people, stay in and enjoy the rental’s amenities, and save by buying groceries and using the grill for Fourth of July barbecues instead of dining out.
On Vrbo, travelers will always see the full price excluding tax when they’re searching. There are no surprise fees or hidden costs, which makes it easier to budget and plan.
“America’s 250th anniversary is an opportunity for families and friends to come together and create lasting memories in communities across the country,” said Jen Condon, Executive Vice President of America250. “Vrbo’s spotlight on accessible travel destinations helps more Americans take part in this milestone year while exploring the places, traditions, and experiences that make our nation unique.”
